Apple also made Apple Intelligence central to the launch story; that 2024 announcement does not tell you which features are available in your language, region, or current iOS version.
What is the Camera Control button on iPhone 16?
Camera Control is a physical camera control Apple introduced across the iPhone 16 family. Apple said a click can open the camera, take a photo, or start video recording. It also supports adjustments such as zoom, exposure, and depth of field. Apple described it as providing “instant, easy access to the camera with just a click.”
It is distinct from the Action button, which Apple also highlighted on iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Camera Control is specifically for camera access and controls; Apple’s announcement does not establish that the two buttons are interchangeable.
What’s the difference between iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro?
The standard and Pro tiers share the Camera Control concept and a 48MP Fusion camera, but Apple announced different processors, screen sizes, and camera capabilities. The Pro models are aimed at people who need their additional telephoto and video options; the standard models include a capable main camera plus an autofocus Ultra Wide camera with macro photography.

These are specifications in Apple’s September 2024 announcements, not independent comparative performance results. Higher-end features do not automatically mean better photos or video for every person or situation.
Which iPhone 16 size and camera tier makes sense?
Choose between the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
Both standard models were announced with the A18 chip and the same listed camera features. The practical distinction in Apple’s launch specifications is display size: 6.1 inches on iPhone 16 and 6.7 inches on 16 Plus. If you want a larger screen but do not need the Pro camera features, the Plus is the larger standard-tier option.

Choose between iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
Apple announced 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays for Pro and Pro Max, respectively. Both were listed with A18 Pro, 5x Telephoto, and 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision recording. The Pro tier is the relevant comparison if those telephoto or advanced video capabilities matter to your use; the Max offers the larger display.
Decide whether you need the Pro camera features
For everyday photos, Apple’s standard models include a 48MP Fusion camera with a 2x optical-quality option and a 12MP Ultra Wide camera with autofocus and macro photography. The Pro models add a 5x Telephoto camera and the announced 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision video mode. Consider whether you will actually use distant-subject framing or that video format before paying for a feature set you may not need.

What did Apple announce about Apple Intelligence?
Apple presented Apple Intelligence as a core part of the iPhone 16 launch in September 2024. In its announcement of iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, Apple VP of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing Kaiann Drance said the models marked “the beginning of a new era for iPhone with Apple Intelligence delivering powerful, personal, and private experiences to our users.”
That statement describes Apple’s launch positioning, not current availability. The launch materials and their expected rollout details do not establish which Apple Intelligence features a particular reader can use now: availability can depend on software version, language, and region. Check Apple’s current support information for your device and location before relying on a specific feature.

What Apple’s launch announcement does—and does not—establish
Apple also described compatible cases designed to work with Camera Control and a MagSafe charger in its 2024 launch materials. Those announcements do not establish current stock, pricing, or whether a particular case listing is compatible. Verify the exact model compatibility and current retailer details before buying.
