Check your exact iPad model before choosing. Apple Pencil Pro is the stronger fit for compatible iPads and drawing that benefits from pressure sensitivity and extra controls. Apple Pencil (USB-C) offers tilt-based input and cable charging. Logitech Crayon (USB-C) emphasizes quick startup and tilt-based line variation for notes and annotation. Compatibility differs by iPad and Pencil generation, so verify the model in Apple’s Apple Pencil compatibility list before buying.
Check compatibility before comparing features
“Works with iPad” is not specific enough to make a safe purchase. Apple lists compatible devices by Pencil model, and some models also require a minimum iPadOS version. The current compatibility listing says Apple Pencil Pro requires iPadOS 17.5 or later and supports iPad Pro 11-inch and 13-inch (M4/M5), iPad Air 11-inch and 13-inch (M2/M3/M4), and iPad mini (A17 Pro). Apple Pencil (USB-C) requires iPadOS 17.1.1 or later and includes a broader range of supported iPads, among them iPad (10th generation) and iPad (A16), several iPad Air and Pro models, and iPad mini (6th generation and A17 Pro). First- and second-generation Apple Pencil compatibility differs again. Use Apple’s model-by-model compatibility list rather than inferring support from the iPad family name.
Logitech describes the current US product as Logitech Crayon (USB-C) and says it works with iPads from 2018 onward. Check the exact iPad and Crayon variant before purchasing. Logitech also lists a Lightning Crayon in some markets; its charging hardware and specifications should not be assumed to match the USB-C model.

This is a comparison of manufacturer specifications, not hands-on testing. Logitech’s product pages describe Crayon’s setup, tilt response, and palm rejection; Apple’s Apple Pencil feature comparison distinguishes Pro’s pressure sensitivity and controls from the USB-C model’s listed features.

Handwritten notes and PDF annotation
For notes, marking up documents, or sketching simple diagrams, start with compatibility, then decide whether cable charging and magnetic storage or Crayon’s quick-start approach better suits your routine. Logitech says Crayon works with Apple Pencil-supported apps, but that does not establish that every app provides identical features with every stylus.
Illustration and pressure-sensitive drawing
Apple Pencil Pro is the clearest option of these three when pressure-sensitive strokes matter: Apple lists pressure sensitivity for Pro, alongside tilt. Apple also lists squeeze, barrel roll, haptic feedback, double-tap, and Find My for Pro. Those features depend on using a supported iPad; confirm the exact model before choosing it.

- For any iPad (2018 releases or later) , iOS updated to 12.2 and above.
- Uses Apple Pencil technology so you can write and draw naturally without fear of missing a single line or detail, or convert your hand-writing to text with Scribble.
- Need a thicker or thinner line. Just tilt and the smart tip adjusts line weight automatically.
- Logitech Crayon connects to iPad instantly. You just turn on and draw. No complex device pairing or other delays required. Need a thicker or thinner line. Just tilt — the smart tip adjusts line weight automatically.
- Crayon delivers precise and fast input with hundreds of indispensable Apple pencil supported apps and the list is growing bigger every day.
Apple Pencil (USB-C) supports tilt, but Apple’s comparison does not list pressure sensitivity for it. Logitech’s legacy Crayon setup guide says Crayon is not pressure-sensitive, but it covers older Crayon/iPad combinations and is not a complete specification sheet for the current USB-C model. For pressure-dependent art, rely on the current model specifications rather than assuming that a stylus with tilt also supports pressure.

Apple Pencil (USB-C) charges through a USB-C cable and can attach magnetically to a compatible iPad for storage; magnetic attachment is not the same as the magnetic pairing and charging listed for Pencil Pro. Crayon (USB-C) uses a USB-C cable, while the Lightning Crayon variant has different hardware. Verify the product variant if charging convenience is decisive. Apple’s Apple Pencil (USB-C) technical specifications cover its charging and supported-device details.

- Logitech Crayon is a versatile, pixel-precise digital pencil that unlocks what’s possible in the classroom, elevating the way teachers teach and students learn. With Logitech Crayon and iPad together, the only limit to what’s possible is a student’s imagination.
Logitech says Crayon tips can be replaced and sold separately. If you own a Crayon, match the replacement tip to the exact Crayon version rather than assuming tips are interchangeable.

A simple buying decision
- Identify the iPad model. Check its model name and generation, then confirm the stylus in Apple’s compatibility list or Logitech’s product information.
- Decide whether pressure sensitivity is essential. If it is, consider Apple Pencil Pro only if your iPad supports it. Tilt alone is not pressure sensitivity.
- Choose the setup you prefer. Crayon is designed for straightforward startup; Apple Pencil (USB-C) pairs through a cable; Pro attaches magnetically for pairing and charging on supported iPads.
- Verify the exact product variant. In particular, do not confuse Logitech’s USB-C Crayon with its Lightning version.
