The iPhone 17 is the smaller, lighter option, while Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE gives you a larger display and a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera. In the US price snapshots available here, the iPhone starts $230 higher at AT&T—but that is a carrier listing, not a universal unlocked-price comparison. The better choice depends on your preferred size and operating system, camera reach, local price, and the exact storage tier.

How their screens and sizes differ

The iPhone 17 is shorter, narrower, and 16g lighter than the cited UK Galaxy S26 FE. Its 6.3-inch display is easier to choose if you want a more compact handset; Samsung’s 6.7-inch screen gives you more physical display area for video, reading, and apps.

Both manufacturers specify refresh rates up to 120Hz. Apple lists a higher pixel resolution, while Samsung calls its panel FHD+. Those figures describe different display formats and do not, by themselves, establish which screen looks better in everyday use.

#1 Best Overall
Apple iPhone 17 Pro, US Version, 1TB, eSIM, Deep Blue- Unlocked (Renewed Premium)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Camera comparison: optical zoom versus 2x framing

The Galaxy S26 FE has three rear cameras, including a dedicated 8MP 3x optical telephoto lens. That gives it a clearly specified longer optical-zoom option for framing distant subjects. The iPhone 17 instead has 48MP main and ultra-wide cameras, with Apple describing 2x telephoto framing as optical quality.

These specifications do not prove which phone takes better photos or video. Megapixel counts and lens labels alone cannot establish image quality, so choose based on the camera range you are most likely to use rather than assuming one is a universal winner.

Rank #2

Battery life and charging

Samsung lists a 4,900mAh typical battery capacity and estimates up to 29 hours of video playback; Apple estimates up to 30 hours for the iPhone 17. The playback figures come from separate manufacturer methods, not a controlled head-to-head test, so the one-hour difference is not a reliable prediction of which lasts longer for you.

For charging, Apple’s stated up-to-50%-in-20-minutes figure requires a 40W-or-higher adapter and cable, and Apple says the adapter is sold separately. Samsung lists charging input up to 45W; TechRadar reports 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. Check regional specifications and what is included with the phone before comparing charging costs.

Software support and processor names

Samsung says the Galaxy S26 FE launches with One UI 9 based on Android 17 and guarantees up to seven major Android OS upgrades and up to seven years of security patches. The cited Apple specifications do not give a directly comparable guaranteed support duration, so the available figures do not support a like-for-like promise comparison.

The phones use Apple’s A19 and Samsung’s Exynos 2500, respectively. Chip names alone do not establish real-world speed, and there is no comparable benchmark in the cited sources to declare a performance winner.

Price difference: compare the same market and purchase basis

AT&T’s US comparison page showed retail starting prices of $929.99 for the iPhone 17 and $699.99 for the Galaxy S26 FE when accessed for this comparison—a $230 difference. These are prices on one US carrier page, not universal unlocked prices; the page also displays installment and trade-in offers with eligibility and term conditions. Compare the outright prices rather than treating conditional monthly offers as equivalent.

TechRadar reported that the Galaxy S26 FE first went on sale September 4, 2026, with launch prices for the standard version of $699 in the US, £699 in the UK, and AU$1,149 in Australia. It reported 256GB launch prices of $799, £799, and AU$1,299, respectively. These are launch-price references from its September 24, 2026 review, not live retailer quotes.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the iPhone 17 if

  • You want a smaller and lighter phone than the cited Galaxy S26 FE configuration.
  • You prefer iOS or already use Apple’s ecosystem.
  • The listed 48MP main and ultra-wide cameras and 2x optical-quality framing fit the photography you do.

Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if

  • You prefer a larger 6.7-inch display.
  • A dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera matters more to you than a compact design.
  • Your local price and storage-matched offer make it the better value, or Samsung’s stated update commitment is important to you.

For a fair price decision, check the exact regional model and storage tier and compare like with like: outright retail against outright retail, unlocked against unlocked, or carrier offers with their plan, trade-in, and installment requirements included.
