The iPhone 17 is the smaller, lighter choice, while the Motorola edge 70 max offers a much larger, higher-resolution 144Hz display and a substantially larger stated battery with faster listed charging. Neither specification sheet establishes which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use. A defensible price difference also cannot be calculated from the available figures: Motorola’s reported €699 price was its Spain launch price for one configuration in July 2026, and there is no matching current iPhone 17 price here.

Which display and size make more sense?
Choose the iPhone 17 for a smaller, lighter phone
At 177g and 6.3 inches, the iPhone 17 is 44g lighter and has a screen 0.52 inches smaller than the Motorola. That gives the iPhone a clear specification advantage if a less bulky handset is your priority. Dimensions alone cannot determine how comfortable either phone feels in your hand.
Choose the Motorola for a larger, faster-refresh display
The edge 70 max’s 6.82-inch panel has a higher listed resolution and refresh ceiling: 1440 × 3168 and up to 144Hz, compared with the iPhone’s 2622 × 1206 and adaptive refresh up to 120Hz. Those figures describe resolution and maximum refresh, not a controlled comparison of image quality, brightness in everyday conditions, or smoothness across apps.

- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Performance, software and storage
The Motorola support page lists Android 16 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, while Apple lists its A19 chip. These processor names do not establish which phone is faster: no comparable benchmark results or controlled performance tests are available here. Software preference may be the more practical deciding factor if you already favor Android or iOS.
Storage is another concrete difference. Apple offers 256GB and 512GB capacities; the Motorola EMEA support specification lists 256GB UFS 4.1 and 8GB RAM. Confirm the exact Motorola configuration in your market before buying, since Motorola says specifications can vary by market.

Camera specifications do not settle photo quality
Apple specifies two 48MP rear cameras, a Main and an Ultra Wide. Motorola’s product page emphasizes a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 sensor, with its regional support page providing the fuller camera specifications. Megapixel counts and sensor branding are not enough to rank camera performance: the available sources do not provide controlled side-by-side photo or video tests. If camera quality is decisive, look for samples made in comparable conditions rather than treating these hardware figures as a verdict.
Battery capacity and charging
Motorola lists a 7100mAh battery, 90W wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging. It also estimates up to 73 hours of battery life, but labels its estimates approximate and dependent on conditions such as network signal, settings, temperature and battery condition. The cited Apple specification page does not give a battery capacity or directly comparable runtime figure. The Motorola’s larger stated capacity and higher listed charging rates are meaningful specification differences, but they do not prove a longer real-world runtime than the iPhone.

Durability ratings are not directly equivalent
Apple states IP68 protection and specifies testing to a maximum depth of 6m for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. Motorola lists IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD 810H, while noting that specifications may vary by market. Because the claims use different wording and testing contexts, do not treat the ratings as interchangeable guarantees. Follow each manufacturer’s care guidance rather than interpreting a rating as permission to expose a phone routinely to water or dust.

Cinco Días reported that the Motorola edge 70 max 8GB/256GB launched in Spain on 15 July 2026 at €699. That is a dated launch price for that country and configuration, not a current retailer quote. The cited material does not establish a matching current iPhone 17 price in Spain or another specified market, so it does not support a reliable numerical price gap. Compare live prices for the same country, storage tier and purchase date before deciding which is better value.

Which phone should you choose?
- Pick the iPhone 17 if you want the lighter, smaller-screen option, prefer iOS, or need the choice of 256GB and 512GB storage.
- Pick the Motorola edge 70 max if you want a much larger 144Hz display, prioritize its listed 7100mAh battery and faster charging specifications, or prefer Android.
- Do not decide on camera quality, everyday speed, battery runtime or price alone from these specifications: the available evidence does not provide comparable tests or a current same-market price pair.
