Apple has not announced smart glasses, but current reporting describes a first-generation product as display-free AI eyewear that pairs with an iPhone. Rumored features include cameras, Siri, Apple Intelligence-related assistance, built-in speakers, and multiple frame styles. The latest reported debut estimate is late 2027—not a date Apple has confirmed.
What Apple’s first rumored glasses may be
The first product described in current reports is closer to camera-equipped smart glasses than to an augmented-reality headset. It is expected to rely on a paired iPhone for some processing and to provide voice and AI features without putting information on a lens display. These remain reported expectations, not Apple specifications.
9to5Mac’s December 10, 2025 feature roundup and MacRumors’ evolving Apple Glasses guide both distinguish this first rumored product from a later, display-equipped concept.
Rumored features, and what is actually known
No display in the first generation
Reports describe the initial glasses as having no built-in display and no augmented-reality overlay. That would make them fundamentally different from display-based AR glasses: the wearer would interact through audio, cameras, voice, and a connected phone rather than see digital graphics in the lenses.

Cameras for photos and visual assistance
The glasses are rumored to include multiple cameras for capturing photos or video and giving an assistant visual context about the wearer’s surroundings. No reliable camera count, resolution, or final recording capabilities have been confirmed by Apple.
MacRumors lists possible uses such as identifying objects, answering questions about what the wearer sees, and providing directions or live translation. Treat these as reported possibilities, not a promised feature checklist.

Siri and Apple Intelligence-related help
9to5Mac expects Siri to play a central role, with the cameras potentially enabling visual-intelligence-style requests. Apple’s June 2026 Apple Intelligence announcement describes capabilities elsewhere in Apple’s ecosystem; it does not announce glasses or confirm that those capabilities will be available on them.
Built-in speakers and iPhone pairing
Reports expect speakers in the frames and a connection to an iPhone, with some processing handled by the phone. MacRumors also characterizes the rumored first product as an iPhone accessory with some on-device capability. Apple has not specified how pairing, processing, calls, or audio would work.

Custom, power-efficient chip
9to5Mac reports that Apple is developing a power-efficient chip based on its Apple Watch S-class chips, intended to manage multiple cameras. This is leak-based reporting; Apple has not identified a chip or confirmed its role.
Multiple styles; health tracking is uncertain
Reports suggest Apple may offer several styles, with MacRumors also noting speculation about different frame materials. 9to5Mac says Apple has explored health tracking, but no specific health feature is established as part of a launch product. Exploration should not be mistaken for a planned or confirmed capability.

When might Apple Glasses arrive?
The timing estimate has moved. 9to5Mac’s December 2025 roundup said an unveiling could happen in 2026, with shipping potentially delayed until 2027. The later MacRumors guide, updated through August 2026, reports that Mark Gurman’s estimate shifted to a possible late-2027 debut; it also cites analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as targeting 2027. Neither estimate is an Apple commitment.
The same MacRumors guide places a possible display-equipped successor in 2028 or 2029. That is a separate, longer-range rumor, not a feature of the first product currently described.

What you can buy and compare now
Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are an available product in the same broad category, but their specifications say nothing about what Apple may ship. The official Ray-Ban Meta product page lists model-specific camera, audio, connectivity, storage, and app details. For one listed model, it specifies a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a six-microphone array; specs vary across models.
Ray-Ban Meta operation requires a compatible smartphone, wireless internet, a Meta account, and the Meta AI app. Availability is limited to the markets listed on its product page. These requirements and capabilities apply to Meta’s product, not the rumored Apple glasses.
Meta’s July 2026 privacy explainer says captured gallery photos and videos remain on the glasses until the user imports them to a phone, and that sharing is user-controlled. That is Meta’s description of its own product and practices; Apple has not explained how capture controls, indicators, storage, or privacy would work on its rumored glasses.
