The Antenova M10385 is an active, surface-mount antenna module for embedded FM designs that need both receive and transmit capability in the 87.5–108 MHz band. It combines an antenna, matching circuit and receive low-noise amplifier in a 30 × 5 × 1.5 mm package, but it still needs careful PCB-edge placement, ground clearance and product-specific external matching.
What the M10385 does
The M10385 connects to an FM receiver/transmitter chip through one RF connection. Its VCTL control selects the operating mode: high selects receive (RX), and low selects transmit (TX). The specification says an internal pull-down makes TX the default if VCTL is left unconnected; a production design should still drive and verify the control state deliberately.
In RX mode, the module’s integrated low-noise amplifier (LNA) boosts the received signal. In TX mode, the same antenna supports transmission, for example sending audio from a portable device to an FM radio. The datasheet does not establish transmit power, range or regulatory compliance; those depend on the complete device and its design.
M10385 specifications
| Characteristic | Specification |
|---|---|
| Operating frequency | 87.5–108 MHz (Antenova product specification, 2010) |
| Dimensions | 30 × 5 × 1.5 mm (Antenova product specification, 2010) |
| Supported modes | Receive and transmit, selected through VCTL |
| Integrated circuitry | Matching circuit and RX LNA |
| Typical RX LNA gain | 13.5 dB at 2.8 V and 25 °C (Antenova product specification, 2010) |
| Typical RX noise figure | 1.5 dB at 2.8 V and 25 °C (Antenova product specification, 2010) |
| Recommended supply | VCC 2.3–3.3 V; 2.8 V is the stated typical test condition |
| Typical module supply current | RX: 5 mA. TX: 1 µA under the datasheet’s stated condition; this figure is not a measure of transmitted RF power. |
| Recommended ambient operating range | −30 to +85 °C |
| Contact ESD immunity | ±20 kV, as listed in the 2010 specification |
| Assembly | Lead-free reflow; peak temperature no greater than 260 °C |
These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of performance in every host device. In particular, the stated LNA figures use a specified supply and temperature, while the antenna’s realized performance depends on the host PCB, matching and enclosure.

PCB placement and matching requirements
Place it at the PCB edge
Antenova intends the module to sit at the edge of the host PCB. The product specification shows a 22 × 7 mm area beneath the antenna portion without a ground plane, and recommends at least 2 mm clearance between the antenna and the host PCB ground plane for best FM reception. Treat the drawing and clearance as layout constraints, not optional packaging details: nearby ground, components and enclosure materials can change antenna behavior.
Tune the external matching component for the finished product
The module includes a matching circuit, but the antenna also requires an external matching component chosen for the customer’s product. Antenova specifies a high-Q, 0603 wire-wound inductor in a 0–470 nH range. The required value depends on PCB dimensions, nearby components and the enclosure. Antenova advises measuring the antenna before selecting that value; the range is not a universal default setting.

- GM-recommended replacement part for your GM vehicle's original factory component
- Offering the quality, reliability, and durability of GM OE
- Manufactured to GM OE specification for fit, form, and function
The M1 and M2 pads provide the external matching connection. The datasheet identifies pin 4 as RF I/O to the FM receiver/transmitter chip. Follow the manufacturer’s pinout and reference layout when routing these connections; do not assume an unspecified RF impedance or substitute a matching value without measurement.
Integration sequence
- Confirm the radio IC and mode control. Check that the receiver/transmitter supports the 87.5–108 MHz band and define how the host drives VCTL high for RX and low for TX.
- Reserve the placement area. Put the M10385 at the PCB edge, provide the specified 22 × 7 mm ground-plane-free region beneath its antenna portion, and keep at least 2 mm clearance from the host ground plane as recommended by Antenova.
- Route supply, control and RF. Connect VCC within the recommended 2.3–3.3 V range, use VCTL for deliberate mode selection, and connect pin 4 to the radio IC’s RF I/O. Use M1 and M2 for the external matching component as shown in the manufacturer’s pinout.
- Assemble a representative prototype. Include the intended enclosure and nearby components during tuning, since these affect the antenna environment. Observe the listed lead-free reflow limit of 260 °C peak or below.
- Measure and tune. Measure the antenna in the final or representative product configuration, then select and validate the high-Q 0603 inductor value within the 0–470 nH range. Verify receive and transmit operation in the finished design.
Where the module fits—and what to compare
Antenova listed mobile phones and smartphones, portable media players, portable navigation devices, notebooks, netbooks, tablets, digital photo or media frames, and FM transmitters for music players as target applications. The practical case is a compact device that needs embedded FM without relying on an external headset or retractable antenna, provided its board can accommodate the edge placement and tuning requirements.
