Its published performance is promising on paper, with a claimed CADR of 323 m³/h and coverage of up to 27 m². The main ownership risk is not the feature list but the consumable: the manual requires a complete filter change every 8–12 months, while owner reports repeatedly mention replacement-filter shortages and discontinuation. Buy it only if you can confirm that PF00-22381 filters are available for your location.
What the Anko PF00-22381 is
The PF00-22381 is a mains-powered room air purifier sold under the Anko name. It draws 38 W from a 220–240 V supply and uses a replaceable three-stage filter. CHOICE lists the unit at 56 × 23 × 23 cm and 4.3 kg, so it is a floor-standing appliance rather than a small desktop purifier.

The CADR and room-size figures are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every 27 m² room will receive the same air-cleaning result. Actual performance depends on ceiling height, door position, room layout, outdoor infiltration and how long the purifier runs.
How the three-layer filter works
1. Pre-filter mesh
The first layer catches larger material such as visible dust, hair and lint before it reaches the finer filter. It is the only layer the manual asks you to clean routinely.

2. H13 HEPA filter
The manual says: “The HEPA filter (Grade H13) removes 99.9% of particles as small as 0.3 microns and greater from the air.” That is a manufacturer statement. It should not be read as an independently verified room-level removal rate, and it does not mean that all particles in a room disappear immediately.
3. Activated-carbon mesh
The carbon layer is intended to adsorb some gases and odours. In practice, its useful life depends on the amount and type of odour in the room. Cooking fumes, smoke and other high-load sources can consume carbon capacity faster than ordinary household air.
Room coverage and CADR: what 323 m³/h means
A CADR of 323 m³/h is the volume of filtered air the manufacturer says the unit can deliver under its test conditions. The same documentation gives a maximum room area of 27 m². Treat both numbers as selection guidance rather than a promise of uniform results.
- Use the purifier in an enclosed room if you want the stated coverage to be meaningful; open doors and large adjoining spaces increase the air volume it must clean.
- Place it where the intake and outlet are unobstructed. Do not push it against a wall or furniture.
- Run a higher speed during cooking, cleaning or a pollen event, then reduce the speed when the air has cleared.
- A single purifier cannot substitute for source control such as fixing dampness, ventilating a smoky kitchen or removing a strong odour source.
Controls and everyday operation
Fan speeds
The appliance has low, medium and high settings. Medium (speed 2) is the default when it starts. Higher speed increases airflow and normally increases audible fan noise; low speed is more suitable for sleeping or quiet work once the air is reasonably clean.

Timer
The timer can be set for 2, 4 or 8 hours. This is useful when you want a defined cleaning period rather than continuous operation, but a timer does not replace filter maintenance.
Ionizer
The ionizer is on by default. According to the manual, it switches itself off after 30 minutes. Holding the fan-speed button restarts it. If you prefer to avoid ionization, check the control state after each restart because the default behavior may enable it again.
Remote control
The infrared remote duplicates the basic controls from a distance. It requires two AAA batteries, which are not supplied. Infrared remotes need a reasonably clear line of sight to the purifier.

Filter indicator
A red filter indicator signals that the filter set should be replaced. After installing the new set, hold the filter button for three seconds to reset the indicator.

Placement and safety requirements
Keep at least 30 cm between the purifier and walls or other appliances so air can circulate. The manual says not to use it in bathrooms, outdoors, greasy kitchens, or locations where aerosols or oxygen are being administered. Unplug the unit before opening it or carrying out any maintenance, and keep liquid away from the controls and filter compartment.
Filter cleaning and replacement schedule
Maintenance is simple, but it is recurring. The manual recommends cleaning the filters every 100–500 operating hours, with the interval chosen according to air quality. A dusty home, pets, renovation work or frequent cooking points toward the shorter end of that range.
- Switch the purifier off and unplug it from the wall.
- Remove the filter assembly according to the access-panel instructions.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment on low power to clean the pre-filter mesh. Avoid damaging the mesh with a hard nozzle.
- Reinstall the filter assembly and close the panel securely.
- Replace the complete filter set after 8–12 months, or sooner if the red indicator illuminates or the filter is visibly saturated.
- After fitting the new set, hold the filter button for three seconds to reset the warning.
The replacement item to search for is an Anko PF00-22381 replacement filter. Confirm the model number, dimensions and return terms before ordering from a marketplace: compatible-looking filters are not necessarily the correct set, and stock has been a recurring problem in owner reports.

The 8–12-month replacement window means the A$29 annual figure is an estimate based on one replacement in a year, not a guaranteed lifetime cost. If the purifier operates in polluted air or the filter is loaded early, replacement may be needed sooner. Conversely, a unit used occasionally may not reach the indicator threshold at exactly 12 months.

Is the PF00-22381 noisy?
There is no public, quantified noise result to cite. CHOICE identifies noise as a member-only field, along with expert rating, dust, smoke, VOC and comparative energy-efficiency results. Therefore, do not treat a specific decibel figure or an independent “quietest” ranking as established for this model.
Owner comments are mixed. Some users describe night-mode operation as acceptable, while others call the purifier loud. These are personal reports made in different rooms and conditions, not controlled measurements. If noise matters, buy from a retailer with a practical return policy and test the low setting in the room where you sleep or work.
What owners report about results
ProductReview posts show two opposing experiences. Some owners say the purifier reduces cooking, pet or general household odours and helps with allergy symptoms. Others report that it is too noisy for their use. The most serious complaint is that replacement filters could not be sourced, leaving an otherwise working purifier unusable when its filter was exhausted.

Warranty and support
The manual provides a 12-month warranty. For defects covered by that warranty, it says Kmart will offer a refund, repair or exchange. Keep your proof of purchase and record the model number PF00-22381. A warranty addresses manufacturing defects; it does not guarantee that replacement filters will remain stocked after the warranty period.
When this purifier makes sense
It is a reasonable fit when:
- You need a basic purifier for a room of up to about 27 m² and accept that the area figure is a manufacturer claim.
- You want a physical remote, a 2/4/8-hour timer and three manual fan speeds.
- You are comfortable cleaning the pre-filter and replacing the complete filter set every 8–12 months.
- You can verify a dependable source for PF00-22381 replacement filters before buying.
- You want an ionizer option and understand that it starts enabled by default and times out after 30 minutes.
Choose another model or delay the purchase when:
- Independent noise, dust, smoke or VOC measurements are essential to your decision.
- You cannot confirm replacement-filter availability in your region.
- You need a purifier for a substantially larger open-plan area than the stated 27 m² coverage.
- You specifically want a purifier without an ionizer and do not want to manage its default behavior.
How to compare it with alternatives
Compare like for like rather than relying on a headline room-size number. Check these six points for every candidate:
- CADR versus room volume: compare the published airflow rating with the actual enclosed room, not just the marketing area.
- Measured noise: look for a controlled test that states the speed and measurement conditions. Do not substitute a user’s “quiet” or “loud” description for a decibel result.
- Filter price and supply: identify the exact replacement part, its recurring price and whether it is sold through a stable support channel.
- Energy use: compare the rated wattage and the speeds you will realistically use. The PF00-22381 is specified at 38 W.
- Warranty and support: check the term, remedy and how replacement parts are handled after the warranty expires.
- Ionization: establish whether the alternative includes an ionizer, whether it can be disabled and what its default setting is.
Troubleshooting common ownership problems
The red filter light remains on after replacement
Check that the new filter is seated and the access panel is closed. With the purifier powered as directed, hold the filter button for three seconds to reset the indicator.

Airflow seems weak
Unplug the unit, inspect the pre-filter for dust and clean it with a brush attachment on low suction. Confirm that at least 30 cm of clearance remains around the purifier. If airflow is still poor and the filter is near the end of its 8–12-month period, the complete set may need replacement.
The purifier is louder than expected
Switch to low speed and place the unit on a stable, level surface away from walls and vibrating furniture. Because public independent noise data are not available, a return or exchange policy is the practical safeguard if the sound remains unacceptable.
You cannot find a replacement filter
Search using the full model designation “Anko PF00-22381 replacement filter,” then verify compatibility with the seller. Contact the original retailer while the unit is still under warranty or before the existing filter is exhausted. Do not assume a generic filter will fit or seal correctly.
Bottom-line buying advice
The PF00-22381 offers a credible set of budget features and a published 323 m³/h CADR for a claimed room size of up to 27 m². Its value depends on a continuing supply of the correct filter. Treat the H13 efficiency, coverage and CADR as manufacturer claims, regard noise as unresolved by public testing, and make filter availability your first pre-purchase check.
