Fishing in Anime Expeditions is an active-game minigame introduced with Update 2.0/Summer Siege. Equip a rod at water, cast, wait for the bite, and keep your control block beneath the moving fish icon until the catch finishes. Catches award fish, Sand Dollars, and Fishing XP; those rewards unlock better rods, event-shop items, rank bonuses, and milestone prizes.
What fishing does in Anime Expeditions
Fishing is available during active gameplay, including water in the lobby and other designated fishing spots. It is not an idle menu: you must equip a rod, cast into the water, react to a bite, and complete the catch-control sequence. Every successful catch contributes to three separate forms of progress:
- Fish: Adds the catch to your fishing collection or index and may help satisfy rod or milestone requirements.
- Sand Dollars: The Summer Siege/Summer Fish Fest event currency used in the Summer Shop.
- Fishing XP: Advances your Event Rank and unlocks larger currency bonuses.
Current guide databases list 22 fish species across the available locations, although the species list and location requirements can change with patches. Treat the index as a collection objective as well as a source of currency: harder catches can support progression toward milestones and rod upgrades even when your immediate goal is Sand Dollars.
How to fish, step by step
- Enter active gameplay. Go to lobby water or another spot where the fishing prompt is available. Fishing rewards are tied to active play, so standing in a noninteractive area will not start a catch.
- Equip the Normal Rod. Every player starts with this rod. Select it from your inventory or hotbar before interacting with the water.
- Cast. Use the fishing interaction at the water’s edge. A lure or cast indicator should appear; remain in the fishing spot while waiting.
- Wait for a bite. The game signals when a fish is hooked. Do not leave the minigame during this waiting period, or the attempt may fail without a catch.
- Track the fish icon. During the control phase, a moving fish icon appears in a bounded area. Your objective is to keep the control block under that icon.
- Hold the block over the icon until completion. Move continuously rather than parking the block at one side. The catch completes when the progress sequence finishes; losing alignment for too long can end the attempt.
- Collect the result. A completed catch grants the fish, Sand Dollars, and Fishing XP. The game then returns you to the water interaction so you can cast again.
The minigame rewards consistent tracking more than rapid clicking. Keep your movement smooth, watch the icon rather than the cast animation, and avoid opening menus or moving away from the water during the control phase.

How Sand Dollars work
Sand Dollars are the event currency for Summer Siege, also referred to in some guides as Summer Fish Fest. Fishing is the principal repeatable source described for the currency: each successful catch adds Sand Dollars, and Event Rank bonuses can increase later currency gains.
Where to spend Sand Dollars
Use the Summer Shop to exchange Sand Dollars for event rewards. Current shop listings and guide tables include:
- Trait Crystals
- Stat Locks
- Desert Fruits
- Other limited Summer Siege rewards
The exact stock, prices, and availability are event-controlled. Check the shop before committing currency because a reward that is useful for trait development may be less valuable to an account that is prioritizing equipment or collection progress.

How to get more Sand Dollars per session
There are two levers: catch more fish in the same active time and raise your Event Rank before a long farming session. A rank multiplier applies to subsequent event-currency gains, so a short rank-push before extended farming can produce more Sand Dollars than farming continuously at a lower rank. The 250-currency win bonus available at higher ranks is separate from ordinary fishing catches and comes from qualifying non-event wins.

Fishing Event Ranks and their perks
Fishing XP advances six Event Ranks. The percentages below are the values consistently listed by current 2026 guide tables. They are described as currency-gain bonuses; the practical effect is an increase to event-currency earnings after reaching the rank.
| Event Rank | Currency-gain perk | Additional non-event-win reward | Daily cap on that reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | No passive bonus | None | Not applicable |
| Novice | +20% | None | Not applicable |
| Experienced | +40% | None | Not applicable |
| Veteran | +60% | 250 event currency per qualifying non-event win | 5,000 event currency per day |
| Master | +80% | 250 event currency per qualifying non-event win | 7,500 event currency per day |
| Grandmaster | +100% | 250 event currency per qualifying non-event win | 10,000 event currency per day |
The 250-currency payment is not described as a fishing-catch reward. It is tied to a qualifying win outside the event, and the daily ceiling applies only to that win-based payment. Reaching Grandmaster doubles the listed currency gain compared with Beginner, but it does not remove the need to catch fish or complete the separate win condition.
When to push a rank
If you are close to a new rank, finish that Fishing XP requirement before spending a long block of time farming Sand Dollars. The improved percentage then applies to the catches made during the rest of the session. If you are already at a high rank, alternate fishing with the activities that trigger the non-event-win reward so the daily cap is used efficiently rather than trying to obtain it from fishing alone.

Rod comparison: starting, shop, drop, milestone, and auto options
Rod choice affects how comfortable and productive the control minigame feels. Compare bite or lure timing, control forgiveness, catch-zone width, the unlock requirement, and any special passive. Exact numeric rod statistics are not consistently published, so use the following as an unlock and behavior guide rather than a complete stat sheet.

| Rod | How it is obtained | Reported special behavior | Best use | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Rod | Available to every player at the start | Baseline fishing behavior | Learning the minigame and earning the first Sand Dollars | Core starting system |
| Advanced Rod | Reported 750-Sand-Dollar purchase in the Summer Shop | Improved rod performance compared with the starter option; exact stat gains are not stated consistently | First upgrade after establishing a reliable currency loop | Shop cost reported by current guide data |
| Lucky Rod | Reported rare post-catch drop at approximately 1% | Every eighth fish is reported to guarantee a Mythic catch | Players pursuing rare or Mythic fish after regular fishing is established | Guide-reported, not confirmed by an official patch note |
| Recycling Rod | Reportedly tied to a 100-fish milestone | Additional passive details are not consistently documented | Collection-focused players working through repeated catches | Unlock reporting conflicts between guides |
| Auto Rod | Reportedly unlocked by reaching Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite | Skips the manual fishing minigame | Long sessions where reducing hands-on control time matters | Guide-reported, not confirmed by an official patch note |
Buying the Advanced Rod
The Advanced Rod is the clearest early target because its reported requirement is a direct shop purchase: 750 Sand Dollars. Start with the Normal Rod, save the currency instead of spending every early drop, and buy the upgrade once the shop confirms the same requirement on your server. Because shop inventories can be adjusted during an event, verify the current in-game price before farming to an exact total.
Understanding the Lucky Rod report
Current guide data places the Lucky Rod’s post-catch drop chance at approximately 1%, which means it is a rare outcome rather than a predictable purchase. The same reports describe a guaranteed Mythic catch every eighth fish. The guides do not establish whether that counter is shared across rods, resets after a failed attempt, or persists across sessions, so do not assume a particular counter behavior unless the game displays it.
Handling the Recycling Rod discrepancy
One guide links the Recycling Rod to a 100-fish milestone, while another reports the unlock differently. Count your completed catches, but use the in-game milestone or rod menu as the final authority. If the rod does not appear at 100 fish, relog once, inspect the milestone track, and check for an event update before spending currency or assuming the account is bugged.
Working toward the Auto Rod
The Auto Rod is reported to require Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite. This is a substantial combat objective rather than a fishing purchase. Its value is convenience: the reported behavior skips the manual fish-tracking minigame, allowing repeated catches with less direct input. You still need to reach the wave requirement, so combine Tidal Siege runs with fishing instead of abandoning all other progression until the rod is available.

Fishing milestones and event-track rewards
Fishing also fills a milestone track separate from the Event Rank ladder. Guide tables list reward types including:
- Rerolls
- Gems
- Trait Crystals
- Equipment Locks
- A Tidal Siege Banner
- The Flamingo cosmetic
The track rewards collection and repetition, not just currency. Check the next visible milestone before deciding whether to sell your time exclusively for Sand Dollars: a nearby Equipment Lock or Trait Crystal may justify continuing to fish after your shop budget is complete. Thresholds and reward order are not established in the available guide tables, so rely on the milestone panel in your current event version for exact counts.
An efficient progression loop
- Learn the Normal Rod. Practice keeping the control block aligned with the moving fish until catches are routine. This avoids wasting early casts while you are still learning the timing.
- Build the first 750 Sand Dollars. Use lobby water or another active fishing spot and spend only when a purchase supports your immediate objective. The reported Advanced Rod price is 750 Sand Dollars.
- Buy the Advanced Rod when the shop confirms the price. Use the upgraded tool for subsequent catches and continue filling the fishing index.
- Check your Fishing XP before a long session. If the next Event Rank is close, reach it first so the new currency multiplier applies to the larger session.
- Use Tidal Siege between fishing blocks. Tidal Siege provides its own wave rewards and advances the reported path toward the Auto Rod. It also gives you a way to pursue the Veteran, Master, and Grandmaster non-event-win bonuses when the qualifying win condition is met.
- Spend Sand Dollars according to your account’s bottleneck. Trait-focused accounts can prioritize Trait Crystals or Stat Locks; collection-focused accounts can reserve currency while pursuing rods and milestone rewards; accounts needing progression materials can compare Desert Fruits and other event stock.
This loop is more efficient than buying every optional item immediately because each stage improves the value of later activity: the first upgrade improves fishing, rank progression improves currency gain, and Tidal Siege advances a separate high-value objective.

Choosing a farming route
| Route | Primary objective | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Continuous manual fishing | Sand Dollars, Fishing XP, and fish-index progress | Simple loop; every successful catch contributes to all three fishing systems | Requires constant control of the minigame and does not advance Tidal Siege waves |
| Rank-first fishing | Reach the next Event Rank before extended farming | Moves you into a higher currency multiplier sooner | May delay a shop purchase while you focus on XP rather than immediate spending |
| Fishing plus Tidal Siege | Currency, Fishing XP, wave rewards, and Auto Rod progress | Advances two progression tracks and can trigger the higher-rank win bonus | Less uninterrupted fishing time; Wave 150 is a long-term target |
| Collection and milestone push | Fish index, repeated-catch requirements, and event-track prizes | Builds toward reported rod milestones and cosmetics or materials | May produce less immediately spendable currency than a pure Sand Dollar session |
Use active-time efficiency rather than a claimed universal Sand-Dollar-per-minute number. Catch values, bite timing, and rod statistics can change after an update, while your own session log will show which route fits your current rank and control accuracy.

Common problems and fixes
The cast does not start
- Confirm that you are standing in water where the fishing interaction appears.
- Make sure the rod is equipped rather than merely owned.
- Move to another active fishing spot if the prompt disappears.
- Rejoin the server if the interaction remains missing after changing spots.
The fish icon moves faster than the control block
- Keep the block near the center of the playable area before the bite so you have room to follow either direction.
- Make short corrective movements instead of sweeping from edge to edge.
- Prioritize staying beneath the icon over trying to predict its next position.
- If your rod has a different control feel, compare it with the Normal Rod to determine whether the issue is timing or equipment.
A completed catch gives no visible Sand Dollars
- Wait for the result screen or reward notification to finish before casting again.
- Check the event-currency total in the Summer Shop or event panel rather than relying on a temporary popup.
- Confirm that the event is still active; Summer Siege currency is event-specific.
- Relog if the total remains unchanged after a confirmed catch, then verify whether the catch was actually completed rather than interrupted.
The rank percentage does not seem to apply
- Check that Fishing XP has actually moved you into the new rank; approaching a threshold is not the same as reaching it.
- Compare a later currency reward, not the amount from a catch made before the rank-up.
- Remember that the 250-currency payment is for qualifying non-event wins at Veteran, Master, and Grandmaster, not for every fishing cast.
- At those ranks, check the daily cap before expecting additional win-based currency.
A reported rod unlock is missing
- Inspect the relevant shop, milestone, or Tidal Siege Infinite progress panel.
- For the Recycling Rod, allow for conflicting guide requirements and use the in-game milestone as the authority.
- For the Lucky Rod, remember that an approximately 1% drop is not guaranteed on a particular catch.
- For the Auto Rod, confirm that the requirement is Wave 150 in Infinite mode, not Wave 150 in a different Tidal Siege queue.
What can change after a patch
Fishing was added with Update 2.0/Summer Siege, and event systems are more likely to be adjusted than permanent combat mechanics. The six rank percentages and the Veteran, Master, and Grandmaster win bonuses are reported consistently across current guides, but rod statistics, shop prices, milestone thresholds, fish availability, and unlock triggers may change. The Lucky Rod, Recycling Rod, and Auto Rod details above are guide-reported rather than confirmed by an official patch note.
Before committing a large farming session, verify three in-game panels: the Summer Shop for the current Advanced Rod price and stock, the rank panel for your active multiplier, and the rod or milestone panel for any unlock requirement. This quick check protects you from farming toward an outdated guide value.
Practical priorities by player goal
If you are a new player
Stay with the Normal Rod until the control sequence is reliable, then save for the reported 750-Sand-Dollar Advanced Rod. Avoid spending early currency on low-priority shop items if the upgrade is your main objective.
If you need event-shop materials
Raise your Event Rank before a long Sand-Dollar session, then target the Summer Shop item that matches your account’s bottleneck. Trait Crystals and Stat Locks support trait work, while Desert Fruits and other event rewards serve different progression needs.
If you want rare catches
Continue regular fishing while pursuing the reported Lucky Rod drop. Its approximately 1% post-catch chance makes it a long-session objective, and the reported every-eighth-fish Mythic guarantee gives collection-focused players an additional reason to track catches.
If you want less manual input
Work toward the reported Wave 150 requirement in Tidal Siege Infinite for the Auto Rod. Until then, improve your control consistency and use shorter fishing blocks so fatigue does not cause avoidable misses.
Quick Recap
If you are completing the event track
Monitor Fishing XP, catch count, and the milestone panel together. A session that yields fewer Sand Dollars can still be worthwhile if it completes a rod milestone or reaches a reward such as a Reroll, Gem, Trait Crystal, Equipment Lock, Tidal Siege Banner, or Flamingo cosmetic.
