Anime Expeditions has 22 reported fish species in the latest September 2026 coverage: 18 from the original Summer Siege index and four later Crimson Shore additions. Older guides correctly show 18 because four fish appear on both the Lobby and Coral Kingdom location lists. The live game on October 20, 2026 may differ because no official developer fish-index changelog has confirmed a permanently fixed total.
Why some guides say 18 fish and others say 22
The original Summer Siege index contains 18 unique fish. AllThingsHow’s September 1, 2026 guide lists 22 location entries, but four of those entries are the same fish available in both the Lobby and Coral Kingdom. Counting unique catches produces 18.
September coverage then reported four Crimson Shore additions: Soul Fish, Koi, Golden Koi and Skull Fish. TechWiser’s September 8 update and an Anime Expeditions Update 2.5 tracker both describe four new Crimson Shore fish, bringing the latest reported species count to 22. Treat 22 as the best documented September total, not as an officially frozen October total. Check the in-game Fish Index after any update.
Original Summer Siege fish index: 18 unique species
The table below preserves the original names, star ratings and map assignments. A star rating indicates the listed rarity tier; it is not an official percentage chance.

| Fish | Rarity | Spawn location |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Tang | 1-star | Lobby only |
| Derp Fish | 2-star | Lobby only |
| Owl Fish | 3-star | Lobby only |
| Prize Fish | 2-star | Lobby and Coral Kingdom |
| Fusion Fish | 3-star | Lobby and Coral Kingdom |
| Shellphone Snail | 4-star | Lobby and Coral Kingdom |
| Coopfin | 5-star | Lobby and Coral Kingdom |
| Mirror Fish | 3-star | Coral Kingdom only |
| Booster Fish | 3-star | Coral Kingdom only |
| Rock Fish | 1-star | School Grounds |
| Red Jewel Fish | 2-star | School Grounds |
| Tropical Fish | 3-star | School Grounds |
| Butterfly Fish | 1-star | Flower Forest |
| Green Tiger Barb | 2-star | Flower Forest |
| Rainbow Fish | 4-star | Flower Forest |
| Clown Fish | 1-star | East Town |
| Puffer Fish | 3-star | East Town |
| Sword Fish | 4-star | East Town |
One naming discrepancy appears in the source material: the 4-star Shellphone Snail is called “Shellphone Fish” by one guide. Use the Fish Index’s in-game label when available; Shellphone Snail is the name used by the more complete checklist.
Crimson Shore additions: four reported fish
| Fish | Rarity | Spawn location |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Fish | 1-star | Crimson Shore |
| Koi | 2-star | Crimson Shore |
| Golden Koi | 3-star | Crimson Shore |
| Skull Fish | 4-star | Crimson Shore |
TechWiser reports that any red pool in Crimson Shore can produce these four entries. The additions are separate from the original Summer Siege checklist, which is why a guide that predates the September update may stop at 18.
Fast route through every fishing map
Lobby
Fish only in large, still pools. Reliable water is located near the Story hub, Carrot Summer NPC, AFK Chamber, Guilds and Tower, Summon, Upgrades, Leaderboards and Tournaments hubs. The Lobby is also the quickest place to check its three exclusive entries before moving to event maps.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Coral Kingdom and Tidal Siege
- Open the Tidal Siege event tab and enter Coral Kingdom.
- Use any accessible water; unlike the Lobby, the guide reports that all water in this map is fishable.
- Stay here when you need the two Coral Kingdom exclusives or the four rare entries shared with the Lobby.
Coral Kingdom requires the active Tidal Siege event, so it may not be available in the same way between events.
School Grounds
- Enter an Infinite-mode run.
- Follow the path to the large building.
- Enter the building’s grounds, turn left and fish the pool.
This pool is the documented School Grounds location for its three entries.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Flower Forest
- Start Infinite mode.
- Walk behind the enemy spawn portal.
- Fish in the water behind the portal.
The 4-star entry in this area is reported to take longer than the lower-rarity catches, so plan for more casts rather than assuming the pool is broken.
East Town
- Follow the path through East Town until it ends.
- Continue to the open sea.
- Use the Bioinsect NPC on the left as a landmark and fish from the shoreline.
The open sea is the documented East Town fishing area for its three entries.
Crimson Shore
Travel to Crimson Shore and check the red pools. The September 2026 reports do not identify a single required pool, so try any red pool that accepts a cast and confirm the result in your Fish Index.
How to prioritize a completion run
Map requirements matter as much as rarity. The Lobby is available without an event and contains three exclusive fish, so clear it first while you are already visiting its still pools. Coral Kingdom combines two exclusives with four shared entries, making it the most efficient stop for rare catches when Tidal Siege is active. School Grounds and Flower Forest both require Infinite mode, so run them back-to-back rather than repeatedly changing modes. East Town is a separate shoreline trip, while Crimson Shore is a short red-pool check for four post-Summer-Siege entries.
For route planning, separate targets into three groups: map exclusives, shared fish and high-star attempts. A shared fish discovered in the Lobby does not need to be caught again in Coral Kingdom for a unique-index total, although either map can be useful if one pool gives better access. Conversely, visiting every map does not guarantee 22 unique entries if you have not recorded the Crimson Shore additions.

How the fishing minigame works
- Open the fish icon in the game interface.
- Equip a rod from the fishing menu.
- Stand beside a valid body of water and cast.
- When the minigame starts, hold the input to move the blue control block to the right.
- Release the input to let the block drift left.
- Keep the blue block beneath the moving fish icon until the progress bar fills completely.
The control is intentionally continuous rather than a single timing press: holding and releasing changes the block’s horizontal position. Practice short holds for small corrections, then release before the block passes the fish. Longer holds are useful when the fish icon moves far to the right; quick releases help you stay underneath it on the return drift.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen a cast does nothing
- Lobby fast-flowing water: Some moving water does not trigger a bite. Move to one of the large still pools listed above.
- Story-map pools: Some story maps require you to press Start before casting. If the rod is equipped but no prompt appears, start the run first.
- Wrong map mode: School Grounds and Flower Forest routes are documented through Infinite mode. Re-enter in that mode before troubleshooting the pool.
- Invalid position: Step closer to the water’s edge until the cast prompt appears, rather than throwing from a bank or obstacle.
Rod progression and which rod to use
| Rod | How it is reported to unlock | Best use | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Rod | Default starting rod | Learning the minigame and early catches | No special passive is reported |
| Advanced Rod | 750 Sand Dollars in the Summer Shop | Fast manual fishing and difficult catches | Reported as the fastest manual lure; price may change with the shop rotation |
| Lucky Rod | About a 1% drop after a catch | Long farming sessions and Mythic progression | Reports say its passive guarantees a Mythic every eighth catch; verify the current tooltip |
| Recycling Rod | Commonly reported at 100 fish caught | Players pursuing the milestone unlock | Acquisition reports conflict, so confirm the live milestone requirement |
| Auto Rod | Reach Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite mode | AFK-oriented farming | Skips the fishing minigame but does not target a specific missing fish |
For hard manual catches, the detailed guide specifically recommends the Lucky or Advanced Rod for Shellphone Snail, Coopfin, Butterfly Fish and Puffer Fish. Choose Advanced when you want faster active casts; choose Lucky when you value its reported long-run Mythic passive and can tolerate its roughly 1% drop route.
Choosing between manual speed and automation
The Advanced Rod is the clear value target if you are actively filling gaps: save 750 Sand Dollars, equip it and keep correcting the blue block yourself. The Lucky Rod is a probability-based pursuit rather than a shop purchase, with reports placing its drop chance at about 1%; it may take many catches before it appears. The Recycling Rod is tied to a reported 100-fish milestone, but conflicting unlock descriptions make the live counter more reliable than an old guide. The Auto Rod is the convenience option after Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite. It removes the minigame, yet it cannot be set to search for one missing species, so it is best for general AFK rewards instead of targeted completion.
Which fish is rarest?
Coopfin is the highest-rarity fish in the original index at 5 stars. The Crimson Shore additions top out at 4 stars, making Coopfin the highest-star entry in the combined reported list. Star levels do not establish an official catch percentage, and no developer-published odds were found, so treat the rating as a relative tier rather than a guaranteed probability.
Shellphone Snail, Rainbow Fish, Sword Fish and Skull Fish are each listed at 4 stars. Their locations matter as much as their rating: Shellphone Snail is shared between two maps, Rainbow Fish is in Flower Forest, Sword Fish is in East Town and Skull Fish is in Crimson Shore.

Rewards, milestones and bonus catches
Every documented catch can award Sand Dollars, Fishing XP and milestone XP. Fishing contributes to a 25-level event milestone ladder, so even duplicate fish have progression value while you work toward missing entries or rod purchases. This makes a duplicate shared catch useful: it can still advance event progress even when the species is already marked as discovered.
A fan guide also reports a rare Sharktooth Conch catch in Tidal Siege pools. It is described as a bonus catch, not one of the 22 reported fish species in the index tables above. Do not count it as an additional fish entry unless your current in-game index displays it as one.
A practical completion plan
- Start in the Lobby and fill every still-pool entry there.
- Enter Coral Kingdom during Tidal Siege to collect its exclusive entries and check shared rare catches.
- Run School Grounds Infinite, then Flower Forest Infinite, then East Town, recording each result immediately in the Fish Index.
- Visit Crimson Shore and test each red pool for the four post-Summer-Siege additions.
- Spend Sand Dollars on the Advanced Rod once the 750-Sand-Dollar cost is affordable, or pursue the Lucky Rod if you prefer its reported passive.
- Use the Auto Rod only after reaching Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite and only when unattended farming is more important than targeting a particular missing species.
Keep a short checklist of missing names rather than farming blindly. If only a 4-star fish remains, focus on its documented map and use Lucky or Advanced for manual attempts. If several low-star entries remain, clear each map’s pool in one visit before spending time on rare rerolls. Because shared fish can appear in more than one map, a completed location checklist is not the same as 22 unique entries. Use the Fish Index’s discovered names as the final authority for completion, especially after a new event patch.
Version and availability note
The 18-fish list comes from Summer Siege coverage updated September 1, 2026, with an independent reproduction of the table by Beebom. The four Crimson Shore entries come from September 8, 2026 coverage and an Update 2.5 summary. No official developer-authored fish-index changelog was identified, so the most accurate wording for October 20 is “22 reported species,” pending confirmation from the live game.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many fish are in the Anime Expeditions Fish Index?
The original Summer Siege checklist has 18 unique species. September 2026 coverage adds Soul Fish, Koi, Golden Koi and Skull Fish from Crimson Shore, for 22 reported species. Four of the original fish are shared between Lobby and Coral Kingdom, so location entries can exceed unique catches.

Where should I start if I want every fish?
Clear the Lobby’s large still pools first, then enter Coral Kingdom through the Tidal Siege tab. Run School Grounds and Flower Forest in Infinite mode, visit East Town’s open sea, and finish with any red pool in Crimson Shore.
What is the rarest fish?
Coopfin is the only listed 5-star fish and therefore the highest-rarity entry in the combined reported list. The star rating is a relative tier, not a published catch percentage.
Which rod is best for difficult manual catches?
The detailed guide recommends the Lucky Rod or Advanced Rod for Shellphone Snail, Coopfin, Butterfly Fish and Puffer Fish. Advanced costs 750 Sand Dollars and is reported as the fastest manual lure; Lucky has an approximately 1% reported drop chance and a reported Mythic-every-eighth-catch passive.
Recommended Free Tools
Why is my rod not biting in the Lobby?
Fast-flowing Lobby water may not trigger a bite. Move to a large still pool near the listed hubs. On story maps, press Start before casting, and use Infinite mode for the documented School Grounds and Flower Forest routes.
Does the Auto Rod complete a missing fish for me?
No. The Auto Rod skips the fishing minigame after you reach Wave 150 in Tidal Siege Infinite, but it does not target a specific species. It is intended for unattended general farming.
Is Sharktooth Conch one of the 22 fish?
It is reported as a rare bonus catch in Tidal Siege pools, not as one of the 22 indexed species. Count it only if the current in-game Fish Index lists it as a fish entry.
The Bottom Line
Use the Lobby, Coral Kingdom, School Grounds, Flower Forest, East Town and Crimson Shore routes to check all 22 species reported through September 2026. Coopfin is the top rarity; Advanced and Lucky are the main manual options, while Auto is for Wave 150+ AFK farming. Confirm the live Fish Index after updates.
