Android has no single switch that guarantees lower ping. For a more stable online game, open the connected Wi‑Fi network’s details, keep Private DNS on Automatic unless you have a tested reason to change it, use Treat as metered only for data control, and leave Randomized MAC enabled unless your router identifies the phone by its hardware MAC. There is no universal gaming-mode toggle in Android Settings: low-latency Wi‑Fi is an app-requested capability, not a control you can force globally.
The biggest practical gain comes from using a genuinely usable access point. Android already evaluates signal (RSSI), link speed and packet statistics when selecting networks. These settings can remove compatibility or power-management problems, but they cannot repair weak coverage, radio interference, packet loss or a congested router queue.
Start with the connected network’s details
Settings names vary by Android release and manufacturer. On many phones running Android 12 or later, the route is:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet (some phones label this Connections).
- Tap Internet or Wi‑Fi.
- Tap the connected network to open its details page.
That page is where you may find Private DNS, metering and the per-network MAC setting. If an item is absent, your phone’s Android version, manufacturer interface or device-management policy may place it elsewhere or hide it. Do not assume that a missing control can be enabled safely through a hidden menu.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Which settings are worth changing?
| Setting | Layer it changes | Traffic scope | Privacy or compatibility effect | Typical gaming action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private DNS | DNS name resolution | DNS questions and answers, not the game session itself | Encrypts DNS exchanges; a custom provider can introduce compatibility or lookup problems | Leave on Automatic first |
| Treat as metered | Data-use policy | App downloads and background data decisions | Helps control capped data; does not change radio performance | Leave off on an unlimited home connection |
| MAC address mode | Client identity on one Wi‑Fi network | That SSID and its access-control rules | Randomized MAC improves privacy; hardware MAC preserves reservations and allow-lists | Keep Randomized MAC unless the router requires the device identity |
| Low-latency Wi‑Fi | Wi‑Fi power behavior while an app holds a lock | Only the requesting app while active | Can disable Wi‑Fi power saving; availability depends on app and device support | No global toggle; the game must request it |
Private DNS: keep Automatic unless you have a tested reason
Private DNS protects DNS questions and answers. DNS is the lookup step that turns a game service’s host name into an address; it is not the complete path carrying gameplay packets. Changing this setting therefore cannot, by itself, fix weak signal, interference, packet loss or queueing in the router.
Recommended setting
- On the connected network details page, open Private DNS.
- Select Automatic.
- Save or return to the network page.
Automatic is the sensible baseline because Android’s documented default is designed to work with the network’s DNS service while still using Private DNS protection when available. A provider-hostname option is appropriate only when you have a specific, tested reason—for example, a known DNS availability problem on your network. It is not a general latency booster, and no official source publishes a universal reduction in game ping from changing providers.
When a custom hostname causes trouble
If a hostname you entered was never tested on your connection, switch back to Automatic and retry the game. This isolates DNS configuration from Wi‑Fi performance. A change that makes a login page resolve faster does not prove that the game’s real-time traffic will take a faster route; name resolution and the established game connection are different parts of the process.

Treat as metered tells Android and apps to be conservative with downloads and other background data because the connection may have a cap. It is useful on a hotspot, capped broadband plan or any network where an unexpected update could consume allowance. It does not alter transmit power, channel selection, packet scheduling or the game’s path through the internet.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Choose the setting for your billing situation
- On an unlimited home Wi‑Fi connection, leave the network unmetered. Marking it metered will not lower latency.
- On a capped or shared connection, enable Treat as metered to limit background transfers. This can prevent another app from consuming your allowance, but it is a data-budget decision rather than a radio-performance optimization.
If a game stutters while a large update is downloading, stopping that transfer addresses the competing traffic directly. Merely toggling the metered flag does not guarantee that every app will stop using bandwidth; app behavior still varies.
MAC address mode: Randomized for privacy, hardware for identity-dependent networks
Android 10 and later can use a separate randomized MAC address for each Wi‑Fi network. A MAC address is the identifier the phone presents on the local network; it is not a measure of signal quality and changing it does not inherently make packets faster.
Keep Randomized MAC in the normal case
On the network details page, look for MAC address type, Privacy or a similarly named control. Select Randomized MAC (the wording differs by manufacturer) and reconnect if Android asks you to. Randomization limits long-term tracking of the phone across networks and is the privacy-preserving default.
Use the device or hardware MAC only when the router needs it
Some home networks attach a reserved address, parental-control rule or access-list entry to the phone’s hardware MAC. With a randomized identity, the router may see a different client and fail to apply that reservation or rule. In that specific case, temporarily choose Device MAC, Phone MAC or Use device MAC for that SSID, then reconnect. The exact label depends on the phone.

Android 13 and later managed configurations can expose Hardware and Automatic modes. On a personally owned phone, the visible choices may be simpler. If switching modes makes the phone disappear from a reservation or access list, restore the mode expected by the router rather than treating the change as a gaming tweak.
There is no universal Android gaming-mode switch
Android’s low-latency Wi‑Fi behavior is an app-acquired WifiLock capability. While an app holds the appropriate lock, the system may disable Wi‑Fi power saving so the radio stays ready for traffic. This is not a global setting in the Settings app, and a player cannot force every game to use it.
What must be true for it to help
- The game or its networking component must request the capability.
- The phone’s Wi‑Fi implementation must support the request.
- The lock applies only while the requesting app holds it; it does not permanently reconfigure Wi‑Fi for other apps.
Because support is device- and app-dependent, claims that a hidden “gaming Wi‑Fi” menu will deliver a fixed ping improvement are not supported. If a particular game has a documented low-latency option, use that in the game’s own settings; Android itself offers no universal switch with a guaranteed result.

Android’s network selector does more than compare the number of Wi‑Fi bars. The Android Open Source Project describes candidate filtering using RSSI thresholds and evaluation using link-layer statistics such as RSSI, link speed and packet counts. That means a network that appears available but has a marginal signal or poor link statistics may be rejected in favor of a more reliable candidate.

Practical choice for a gamer
- Play on the strongest reliable access point available at your location, not merely the SSID with the highest nominal speed.
- Move closer to the access point when the signal is marginal, especially if packet loss or repeated reconnects occur.
- If several access points advertise the same service, prefer the one that remains stable where you play. Android’s measurements are more useful than a hidden preference that forces a distant or unreliable connection.
- Do not expect a network-selection toggle to cure congestion. A strong signal can still share a busy channel or a router queue.
These steps improve the chance of a clean local link. They cannot guarantee a particular ping because the game server, internet route and other traffic remain outside the phone’s Wi‑Fi settings.
A troubleshooting sequence that avoids random toggles
1. Establish a baseline
Join the network normally and play long enough to observe the symptom. Note whether the problem is delayed input, visible rubber-banding, disconnections or only a slow login. These symptoms can involve different layers; changing every setting at once removes the ability to identify the cause.
2. Check the network details page
Confirm that the phone is connected to the intended access point and that the signal is reliable at the playing position. If the connection is marginal, improve location or access-point choice before changing privacy settings.

To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.
4. Review metering
Use Treat as metered only when controlling capped-data usage is important. On unlimited home Wi‑Fi, leave it off and address competing downloads directly.
5. Check MAC compatibility
If a reservation, parental-control policy or allow-list is not being applied, test Device/Hardware MAC for that SSID and reconnect. If the network has no identity-dependent rule, return to Randomized MAC.
6. Test one change at a time
After each change, reconnect if requested and repeat the same in-game scenario. Keep the setting only if it resolves a specific compatibility problem without creating a privacy or access-control drawback. There is no official universal ping figure against which to promise success for any of these toggles.

Private DNS, metering and MAC mode operate above or beside the core radio path. They cannot correct a weak signal, interference, packet loss, an overloaded access point or queueing caused by competing traffic. The low-latency Wi‑Fi capability can change power-saving behavior while an app requests it, but it still cannot shorten the physical or internet route to a game server.
When the local link is healthy yet latency remains high, the cause may be outside Android’s per-network controls. Treat the phone settings as compatibility and policy adjustments, not as a promise of lower numbers. Official Android guidance provides no general gaming-latency statistic for these options, so a before-and-after measurement on your own network is the only honest way to judge a change.
Version and manufacturer differences to expect
- The path Settings → Network & internet → Internet is common, but manufacturers can rename menus or move them.
- Some documented network-detail steps require Android 12 or later.
- Per-network randomized MAC controls are available from Android 10, with labels varying by phone.
- Managed Android 13 and later devices may show Hardware and Automatic MAC modes that are not exposed identically on personal devices.
- Low-latency Wi‑Fi support depends on both the app’s request and the device implementation; its absence from Settings is expected.
The practical verdict
For most players, the best configuration is straightforward: use the most reliable nearby access point, keep Private DNS on Automatic, leave the home network unmetered unless data caps require otherwise, and retain Randomized MAC unless a router reservation or access rule requires the hardware identity. Do not search for a universal gaming-mode toggle. These choices reduce avoidable compatibility and data-policy problems, while the quality of the local link—not a single hidden switch—determines whether Wi‑Fi remains stable during play.
