An Android QPR is a Quarterly Platform Release: an update within an existing Android release cycle, not a completely new generation of Android. Google uses QPRs to deliver a mixture of feature-drop changes, bug fixes, performance improvements and selected platform adjustments. QPRs are released on a quarterly cadence to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Google Pixel devices, where they appear as Feature Drops. Developers can test upcoming QPR behavior through beta images before the public release.
Whether your phone receives a QPR depends on the exact model, its support period, the manufacturer and carrier, your country, and the delivery channel. A phone running the same Android version as another model is not automatically guaranteed to receive the same QPR. To identify an update accurately, record the device model, region, Android version, build number, channel and rollout date.
What does QPR mean in Android?
QPR stands for Quarterly Platform Release. It is a scheduled Android update delivered during the life of a major Android platform release. The word “platform” matters: a QPR can change system behavior and platform components, not merely add an isolated application feature.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsGoogle’s QPR documentation describes a quarterly cadence for releases delivered to AOSP and Google Pixel devices. On Pixel, the public package is presented as a Feature Drop when it contains user-visible additions. The release notes also identify fixes and other changes for that specific build.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
A QPR therefore sits between two familiar categories. It is more substantial than treating every update as an unrelated patch, but it is not the same event as moving from one major Android generation to the next. The practical scope must be judged from the release notes for the particular Android version and QPR number.
Is a QPR the same as a major Android version?
No. A major Android release starts a new platform generation. A QPR remains inside that generation and updates it on the quarterly track. Google’s Android Beta Program describes a public sequence in which a major platform release is followed by three Quarterly Platform Releases.
| Characteristic | Major Android release | Quarterly Platform Release |
|---|---|---|
| Position in the cycle | Starts a new Android platform generation | Updates an existing Android generation |
| Typical purpose | Introduces the broad platform baseline | Delivers selected features, fixes, performance work and platform adjustments |
| Public sequence described by Google | Precedes the QPR sequence | Three QPRs follow the major release in the stated public sequence |
| Testing path | May have its own preview and beta program | QPR beta images are published so developers can test upcoming behavior |
| Device availability | Depends on support and manufacturer rollout | Also depends on support, model, region, channel, manufacturer and carrier decisions |
The distinction does not mean every QPR is small. One release may concentrate on bug fixes and performance, while another may include conspicuous Feature Drop changes or platform-level behavior that affects applications. The version number alone does not tell you how much changed.
What can an Android QPR include?
Feature-drop changes
Some QPRs carry changes that users can see or use directly. Google groups these public Pixel changes as Feature Drops. The exact features are release-specific; a QPR label is not a promise that every release contains the same type or quantity of new functionality.
Bug fixes
QPR notes list fixes for problems identified in that release. A fix can affect the operating system, a device component or the interaction between them. Read the notes for the exact build instead of assuming that a general QPR announcement covers every handset.
Performance improvements
Performance work is another stated QPR purpose. Improvements may change responsiveness or resource behavior without adding a new user-facing screen. Because the result can depend on a device and workload, the release notes are the authoritative description of what was changed; a QPR name by itself is not a performance guarantee.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Platform adjustments and compatibility effects
A QPR can adjust Android platform behavior. Those adjustments are important to developers and IT teams because an application or managed configuration that worked on an earlier build may need validation on the newer one. The relevant question is not simply “Did Android change?” but “Did this exact build change an API-adjacent behavior, permission flow, system component or enterprise configuration that my software relies on?”

How the QPR release sequence works
- Major platform release: Android establishes the new platform generation.
- QPR 1: The first quarterly update in the public sequence can combine fixes, performance work and selected feature-drop changes.
- QPR 2: A later quarterly update may add another set of changes, with scope determined by its notes.
- QPR 3: The third stated QPR completes the public sequence described by Google’s Android Beta Program.
This sequence explains why “the next QPR” is not necessarily a new Android version. It also explains why a beta participant may see a QPR build before the stable package reaches ordinary users. QPR notes and beta images identify the release-specific build so developers can test it against real applications and managed-device policies.
Quarterly cadence does not mean every device receives an update on the same day. A release can be available through one channel while another channel is still preparing, approving or staging it.
Which phones receive Android QPR updates?
Google Pixel devices
Pixel devices are the clearest direct target for public QPR delivery. A Pixel beta QPR requires a supported Pixel model and the appropriate enrollment or installation path. Google publishes model-specific Pixel support windows; a Pixel that has left its support period should not be promised future Android platform updates.
“Pixel” alone is not enough to establish eligibility. The exact model and its support status matter, as does whether the device is on a stable build, enrolled in a beta program or using a manually installed developer image.
Other Android phones
For non-Pixel phones, the manufacturer and carrier decide whether an Android platform update is adapted, approved and rolled out. The same QPR may therefore arrive at different times on different brands, or may not be offered to a particular model.

Availability can also differ by country, sales region and software channel. A phone running the same base Android version as a Pixel does not automatically receive the Pixel QPR package, and an Android version number does not by itself prove that a device will receive every QPR.
| Factor to check | Why it affects eligibility or timing |
|---|---|
| Exact model | Support windows and tested builds are model-specific. |
| Support period | A device outside its published support window should not be promised future platform updates. |
| Region or country | Manufacturers and carriers can vary rollout decisions by market. |
| Carrier software | Carrier approval can be required before a platform build is distributed. |
| Channel | Stable OTA, beta enrollment and manual developer images follow different paths. |
| Rollout stage | A staged deployment may make the build visible to some eligible devices before others. |
QPR delivery channels: stable, beta and manual images
The channel tells you what kind of software you are receiving and what risks to plan for.
| Channel | What it is for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Stable over-the-air update | General public installation | Released after the relevant preparation and approval steps; availability can still be staged. |
| QPR beta enrollment | Early testing by supported users and developers | Pre-release software intended for validation before the public release; exact eligibility depends on the supported Pixel model and enrollment path. |
| Manual developer image | Controlled testing and development | Requires the appropriate image and installation procedure; it is not the same as waiting for a normal OTA. |
Do not treat a beta build as evidence that the stable rollout has begun for every device. Conversely, seeing a stable QPR on one model does not establish availability for another model, country or carrier.

How to identify the QPR on your phone
When asking whether a phone has a particular QPR, capture the complete identity of the software rather than only the Android major version.
- Record the device model. Use the model designation shown in the phone’s system information, not just the product family name.
- Record the region and carrier context. Note the country or sales region and whether the handset uses carrier software.
- Record the Android version. This establishes the major platform generation in which the QPR sits.
- Record the build number. A build identifies the installed software more precisely than the Android version alone.
- Record the channel. Mark the device as stable, beta-enrolled or manually flashed, as applicable.
- Record the rollout date. The date helps distinguish a newly staged delivery from an older package and makes support questions reproducible.
On many Android phones, these details are available under the Settings app’s system or about-device information and software-update areas, although menu names vary by manufacturer and software version. Use the labels shown on your handset when reporting the build.
When will a phone get the next QPR?
The dependable answer is a cadence, not a universal calendar date. QPRs are planned quarterly, and Google’s public sequence describes three QPRs after a major platform release. The actual appearance on a particular phone depends on support eligibility, manufacturer adaptation, carrier approval, country or region and staged deployment.

For a Pixel, check the published support window for the exact model and the current status of the relevant stable or beta channel. For another manufacturer’s phone, use that manufacturer’s support notice for the exact model and region. Do not infer a date from another handset receiving the build.

If you are enrolled in a beta, the beta image schedule and your enrollment status govern what you can install. A beta arrival can precede the stable release and should be handled as test software rather than as proof that the final package is ready for every user.
What developers and IT teams should do before deployment
Start with the release notes
Read the notes for the exact QPR number and build. Make a change list covering feature-drop behavior, fixes, performance-related changes and any platform or compatibility effects that could touch your applications or policies.
Test the exact build
Use the QPR beta image when you need advance validation, then repeat critical checks against the stable build that you plan to deploy. Testing a different Android version or a different device model does not establish compatibility with the target QPR.
Validate managed configurations
Check enrollment, work profiles, configuration policies and other managed-device settings on representative hardware. A platform adjustment can affect an enterprise configuration even when the user-visible Feature Drop is minor.

- Inventory exact models and current build numbers.
- Confirm each model remains inside its published support window.
- Test critical apps, permissions, notifications and managed settings.
- Document the approved QPR build and channel.
- Monitor the manufacturer or carrier notice for staged-rollout changes.
How consumers should approach a QPR update
- Confirm eligibility first. Match the phone’s exact model and support status to the manufacturer’s notice.
- Identify the channel. Decide whether you are waiting for stable software or intentionally participating in a beta.
- Back up important data. Use your normal backup method before installing any substantial platform update.
- Check the update information. Compare the offered Android version and build with the QPR described for your model and region.
- Install under suitable conditions. Use a reliable connection and sufficient battery or power, following the on-device instructions.
- Verify after reboot. Recheck the build number and test the functions you rely on most, especially work-profile or device-management features.
If the update is not offered, do not force a conclusion from the absence alone. The phone may be outside the support window, the rollout may be staged, the carrier or manufacturer may still be approving the build, or the available channel may differ from the one you are checking. Confirm the model, region and channel before seeking support.
Common misunderstandings about QPRs
“Every Android phone gets every QPR.”
QPR distribution is not uniform. Pixel eligibility is model-specific, while non-Pixel delivery is controlled by the manufacturer and carrier and can vary by market.
“A QPR is just a security patch.”
The QPR definition used by Google includes feature drops, bug fixes, performance improvements and platform changes. Its scope is broader than a label that describes only one type of maintenance.
“A new Android version number tells me my phone has the QPR.”
The Android version identifies the major generation, not the complete QPR state. Check the QPR number, build, channel, model and rollout context.
“A beta build is the final release.”
Beta images exist for testing ahead of the public schedule. Treat them as validation software and do not use their availability to promise a stable rollout date.
Bottom line
Android QPRs are quarterly updates inside a major Android release cycle. They can deliver Feature Drop additions, bug fixes, performance work and platform adjustments, with the exact scope defined by each release’s notes. Pixel devices receive the most direct QPR path when their model is supported; other phones depend on manufacturer and carrier adaptation and approval. For any timing or compatibility question, identify the exact model, region, Android version, build, channel and rollout date, then test or install the matching package rather than relying on the major version number alone.
