AMD announced its Ryzen AI 300 Series mobile processors on June 2, 2024, at Computex. The family combines Zen 5 CPU cores, an XDNA 2 neural processing unit (NPU), and RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics. AMD advertised up to 50 peak NPU TOPS; that is the company’s launch specification, not an independent measure of how fast a laptop or app will perform.
What is AMD Ryzen AI 300?
Ryzen AI 300 is a family of mobile processors designed for laptops. AMD presented the chips as an AI PC platform, pairing a conventional CPU and integrated graphics with an NPU for supported AI workloads that can run locally.
The architecture names describe different parts of the processor:
- Zen 5: the CPU architecture AMD named for this processor generation.
- XDNA 2: AMD’s NPU architecture for local AI workloads. AMD’s June 2024 launch material specified up to 50 peak NPU TOPS.
- RDNA 3.5: the graphics architecture AMD named for the integrated graphics.
TOPS means trillions of operations per second. A peak TOPS figure describes a processor capability under specified conditions; it does not, on its own, tell you how quickly a particular application will run, which features it supports, how long a laptop battery will last, or how the whole laptop compares with another system.

When did Ryzen AI 300 laptops launch?
The announcement and the arrival of laptops were separate milestones. AMD announced the processor family at Computex on June 2, 2024. Microsoft reported that devices featuring Ryzen AI 300 chips hit the market on July 15, 2024.
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| June 2, 2024 | AMD announced Ryzen AI 300 at Computex, naming Zen 5, XDNA 2, RDNA 3.5, and an NPU rated at up to 50 peak TOPS in its launch material. |
| July 15, 2024 | Microsoft reported that devices featuring the new chips hit the market. |
| January 2025 | AMD announced an expanded consumer and commercial AI PC portfolio that included additional Ryzen AI 300 models. |
As a result, the initial June announcement should not be treated as the complete Ryzen AI 300 lineup. Exact processor choices and laptop configurations vary by manufacturer and model.

What does AMD’s 50 TOPS claim mean?
AMD stated at the June 2024 launch that Ryzen AI 300 offered up to 50 peak NPU TOPS. This is a manufacturer specification for the family, not an independently tested laptop result. “Up to” also matters: it describes a peak figure, not a promise that every processor in the family or every laptop configuration delivers that number in every workload.
Actual AI performance depends on more than the NPU’s peak throughput. The application must support the relevant hardware and software, and performance can also depend on the particular processor and laptop design. A peak NPU figure does not substitute for workload-specific testing.

Which laptops use Ryzen AI 300?
Ryzen AI 300 processors are used in laptops from OEM partners; Microsoft’s July 15, 2024 report confirmed that devices reached the market. The exact models available change over time and vary by region. AMD also announced additional consumer and commercial models in January 2025, so the first launch list is not a reliable guide to every model now offered.
When shopping, search for the exact processor model in the laptop’s specification sheet rather than relying on a broad “AI PC” label. The processor is only one part of the configuration: memory, screen, battery, cooling, weight, ports, and price differ between laptops even when they use Ryzen AI 300 chips.

How to compare Ryzen AI 300 laptops
There is no single laptop configuration that represents the whole processor family. Compare the systems you are actually considering across the details that affect your work and day-to-day use:
- Exact processor: Check the full Ryzen AI 300 model name and its CPU, integrated graphics, and NPU configuration.
- Memory: Compare capacity and type, and check whether the configuration meets the requirements of your applications.
- Display: Look at size, resolution, and refresh rate rather than assuming similar screens from the processor name.
- Battery and power behavior: Seek tests of the specific laptop; processor-family specifications alone cannot establish battery life.
- Ports, weight, and cooling: These are system-level trade-offs that can differ substantially between manufacturers and models.
- Price and availability: Check the current listing for your region, since stock and pricing are time-sensitive.
- Workload-specific tests: For demanding work, use independent benchmarks that test the applications you care about on the particular laptop configuration.
AMD’s launch specification establishes what AMD announced, but it does not establish a tested ranking against competing processor platforms. Make comparisons using independent results for comparable laptops and workloads.
