AMD later listed the model in its EPYC 9005 product information, confirming that the leak’s central specification was genuine: this is a Zen 5 server CPU with 128 cores and 512 MB of L3 cache.
What was spotted, and what did AMD confirm?
On July 25, 2024, Tom’s Hardware reported on a specification image found by HXL that identified the EPYC 9755 and listed a peak turbo clock of 4.1 GHz. At the time, the report made clear that the specifications depended on the image being genuine. AMD’s subsequent product listing confirmed the model and its core and cache figures. The early image was a leak; those central specifications are now official.
The 4.1 GHz figure came from the reported image. AMD’s product information cited here confirms the processor’s core count and cache, but does not establish that leaked peak-turbo figure.
EPYC 9755 specifications
| Specification | EPYC 9755 |
|---|---|
| Generation and architecture | 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005; Zen 5 |
| Cores and maximum threads | 128 cores; 256 threads |
| L3 cache | 512 MB |
| Default TDP | 500 W |
| Memory | 12 DDR channels; up to 9 TB maximum system memory capacity at 2DPC; DDR5-6000 maximum frequency at 1DPC |
| Expansion | 160 PCIe Gen5 lanes |
| Platform | SP5 |
These are AMD’s published product specifications. In particular, the 9 TB figure is a maximum system memory capacity listed for a two-DIMM-per-channel (2DPC) configuration; it is not a claim that every SP5 server ships with that amount of memory.

- The processor features Socket AM5 socket for installation on the PCB
- EPYC product line processor for better usability and increased efficiency
- Dodeca-core (12 Core) processor core allows multitasking with great reliability and fast processing speed
- 64 MB of L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
- Processor with 3.40 GHz clock speed for reliable and fast execution of instructions to ensure maximum convenience and feasibility
How does it compare with other EPYC processors?
The original report’s comparisons show why the cache figure drew attention: the 9755 has more L3 cache than the two Zen 4 models cited, including a 128-core Zen 4c part. AMD’s current EPYC 9005 product table also places the 9755 among higher-core-count Turin models with different core-to-cache balances.
| Processor | Generation or architecture | Cores | L3 cache | Source context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EPYC 9755 | Zen 5, EPYC 9005 | 128 | 512 MB | AMD product table |
| EPYC 9965 | EPYC 9005 | 192 | 384 MB | AMD product table |
| EPYC 9845 | EPYC 9005 | 160 | 320 MB | AMD product table |
| EPYC 9825 | EPYC 9005 | 144 | 384 MB | AMD product table |
| EPYC 9654 | Zen 4 | 96 | 384 MB | Tom’s Hardware’s 2024 comparison |
| EPYC 9754 | Zen 4c | 128 | 256 MB | Tom’s Hardware’s 2024 comparison |
Core count and cache capacity alone do not determine which server CPU is best for a workload. Memory configuration, software support, platform requirements, performance in the intended applications and total system cost all matter. The 9755’s 512 MB L3 cache is notable, but it is not identified as a 3D V-Cache model in the cited product information.

What does the benchmark evidence show?
AMD has published an internal benchmark comparison involving a 128-core Turin configuration, a 96-core Genoa configuration and a 64-core Emerald Rapids configuration. It is vendor-generated evidence for the cited setup, not an independent review or a prediction of performance in every application. AMD itself cautions that results can vary with system configuration, software versions and BIOS settings. The comparison should therefore be read as specific to its test setup, not as a general performance multiplier for EPYC 9755.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What platform does an EPYC 9755 server need?
AMD identifies the EPYC 9005 family as compatible with SP5. That establishes the socket platform, not that every SP5 motherboard, BIOS revision or server chassis supports this particular processor. A buyer or system builder should verify EPYC 9755 support with the motherboard or server vendor, including the required BIOS version, cooling capability and memory configuration.

The 500 W default TDP makes this a data-center-class platform-planning decision, not a drop-in upgrade for a desktop PC. AMD’s cited specifications do not give a recommended power-supply wattage for a complete system. PSU sizing depends on the full server configuration and its power requirements, so use the system vendor’s guidance rather than treating CPU TDP as a PSU recommendation.
