AMD has confirmed Verano as EPYC 9006 LP, a processor aimed at AI host nodes in rack-scale systems. Reports say Dynatron’s cooler listing identifies Socket SB1, but AMD has not confirmed that socket in its official announcements. The cooler listing is marked as not yet determined, so SB1 and platform readiness should be treated as provisional.
What AMD has confirmed about EPYC 9006 LP
AMD’s 2026 event materials identify EPYC 9006 LP as the processor previously known by the codename “Verano.” It is a distinct product in AMD’s 6th Gen EPYC direction, not another name for the regular Venice product. AMD’s AAI 2026 announcement describes it as a CPU designed for AI host nodes in next-generation rack-scale systems.
In AMD’s description, the host CPU’s role is to keep data flowing to accelerators in dense, multi-accelerator systems. That means the processor is being positioned as infrastructure surrounding GPUs or other accelerators, rather than as a conventional standalone server CPU announcement. AMD also states that EPYC 9006 LP supports LPDDR memory and can reach up to 5 GHz. These are vendor-stated capabilities, not independently measured performance results.

Socket SB1 comes from a Dynatron cooler listing, not an AMD socket specification. ComputerBase reported on October 5, 2026 that the listing names a “SB1-4U-ACTIVE” cooler and cautioned that some listing details could be unfinalized. VideoCardz’s October 6 report also traces the SB1 wording to Dynatron and describes the cooler as not yet determined.

That makes SB1 a credible reported designation, but not an AMD-confirmed platform specification. The named cooler’s not-yet-determined status does not establish that it is shipping, generally available, or validated for production systems. AMD has not published final socket specifications or confirmed system availability in its published announcements.
ComputerBase also discusses a possible BGA implementation if its package interpretation is correct. A BGA design would normally be soldered to the motherboard rather than installed as a user-replaceable socketed chip, but that package detail remains speculation and should not be treated as an AMD specification.

Memory, frequency and roadmap context
AMD’s event announcement states LPDDR support and a maximum frequency of up to 5 GHz. ComputerBase further reports that AMD indicated LPDDR5X SOCAMM2 and 2027 availability; keep those details attributed to that report rather than treating them as fully established AMD specifications. Memory capacity, channels, bandwidth, supported module configurations and the final system topology have not been published in the cited announcements.
In a May 21, 2026 newsroom release, AMD said its roadmap would extend TSMC’s 2 nm process technology to Verano after the Venice production ramp. AMD also described Verano as optimized for performance per dollar per watt. These are forward-looking roadmap and product-positioning statements, not published measurements of a finished Verano system. AMD’s newsroom announcement provides that context. Lisa Su described ramping Venice on TSMC 2 nm as an important step for next-generation AI infrastructure, while the company presented Verano as part of the same broader data-center CPU direction.

How to evaluate a future Verano platform
There are no substantiated Verano model numbers, validated SB1 servers or independent benchmarks to support a product ranking today. When systems become available, buyers should compare confirmed core and configuration data with workload-specific performance, not the “up to 5 GHz” headline alone. Memory type, total capacity and sustained bandwidth will matter for feeding accelerators, as will the CPU-to-accelerator interconnect and the number of accelerators a host node can support.
Operational factors are equally important in a rack deployment. Check measured power under comparable workloads, performance per watt, cooling validation, firmware support, serviceability and total platform cost. A processor roadmap statement cannot substitute for a tested server configuration. No Verano pricing, launch-day offer, retail stock or system integrator purchase program has been established by AMD or system partners, and the Dynatron cooler listing should not be treated as evidence that a complete SB1 platform can be ordered.

What remains unverified
- AMD has not directly confirmed Socket SB1 in the official materials cited here.
- Final Verano specifications, including a complete CPU configuration, package type, memory limits and platform details, are not established by these announcements.
- No independently attributable Verano benchmark or measured performance statistic has been publicly reported.
- The Dynatron SB1-4U-ACTIVE listing does not establish cooler availability, production validation or the existence of shipping SB1 systems.
- No price, system partner, service policy or retail channel has been announced for an EPYC 9006 LP platform.
Until AMD or system makers publish validated platform details, the listing alone is not enough to judge compatibility or compare Verano with a shipping server platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is AMD EPYC 9006 LP the same processor as Verano?
Yes. AMD’s 2026 event material identifies EPYC 9006 LP as the processor formerly codenamed “Verano.” It is presented as a distinct 6th Gen EPYC product for AI host nodes, not as the regular Venice product name.
Best Value
- The processor features Socket AM5 socket for installation on the PCB
- EPYC product line processor for better usability and increased efficiency
- Dodeca-core (12 Core) processor core allows multitasking with great reliability and fast processing speed
- 64 MB of L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
- Processor with 3.40 GHz clock speed for reliable and fast execution of instructions to ensure maximum convenience and feasibility
Did AMD officially confirm the SB1 socket?
No. Reports from ComputerBase and VideoCardz trace the SB1 designation to Dynatron’s SB1-4U-ACTIVE cooler listing. AMD’s announcements do not provide an SB1 socket specification, and the listing may contain unfinalized information.
What is EPYC 9006 LP designed to do?
AMD says it is an AI host-node CPU for rack-scale systems, where the host continuously supplies data to multiple accelerators in dense deployments.
Does Verano support LPDDR5X SOCAMM2?
AMD publicly states LPDDR support. ComputerBase reports LPDDR5X SOCAMM2 and 2027 availability, but those module and timing details should remain attributed to that report until AMD publishes a direct specification.

Can I buy the Dynatron SB1-4U-ACTIVE cooler or an SB1 server now?
The reported cooler listing is marked as not yet determined. It does not prove retail availability, production validation or compatibility with a shipping system. No confirmed SB1 server purchase offer or pricing is established.
The Bottom Line
AMD has confirmed Verano as EPYC 9006 LP and positioned it for LPDDR-equipped AI host nodes, with a stated maximum frequency of up to 5 GHz. Socket SB1 is a credible but provisional report from Dynatron’s cooler listing, not an AMD confirmation. Treat the cooler, package details, specifications, pricing and system availability as unverified until AMD or an OEM publishes validated platform information.
