AWS’s September 2, 2026 article says Luna streams at up to 1080p and 60 frames per second. That is Amazon’s stated capability, not an independent performance test or a guarantee of what a player will experience.

Access still depends on having a supported device and a suitable internet connection. Amazon says stream resolution, latency, and continuity depend on the device, location, network, bandwidth, and subscription status; it does not guarantee a particular stream quality. Its supported devices, subscription content, and game catalog can also change and vary by location.
Prime may widen the potential audience, but it is not a Luna user count
AWS’s 2026 article cites more than 200 million Prime members when describing Luna’s potential audience. That is an Amazon/AWS company claim about Prime membership, not a count of Luna players or people who stream games. It indicates a possible distribution advantage; it does not show how many Prime members use the service.

Access and availability depend on location and setup
Amazon’s Luna help page stated that the service was available in 14 countries when accessed on September 30, 2026. Availability can change, so the current country list should be checked on Amazon’s service pages before relying on that figure. Amazon also cautions that requirements and content vary by location.
How Luna compares with Xbox Cloud Gaming
The useful consumer comparison is practical: which screens each service supports, what games are available, how access is bundled or subscribed to, where the service is offered, and how it performs on a particular network and device. Those details can change, and the cited sources do not provide a current, like-for-like comparison of Luna and Xbox prices, subscription tiers, catalogs, or supported-device lists. Check each service’s official pages for current terms rather than assuming one has a broader catalog or lower cost.

The evidence does support one distinction in how the companies discuss their services. Microsoft’s FY2026 Form 10-K explicitly says Xbox and its cloud-gaming services face competition from online gaming ecosystems and game-streaming services. Microsoft’s quarterly activity statement adds a usage signal, but not enough detail to compare directly with Luna. Amazon’s cited material emphasizes access on compatible devices and the potential reach of Prime.
Is Google still in cloud gaming?
The official statements cited here do not establish Google’s current service status or its present competitive position in consumer game streaming. That means Google should not be described as a confirmed active direct competitor on this evidence alone. Nor do these sources support a comparison of Google’s user base, catalog, or market share with Amazon or Microsoft.

What the market forecast can—and cannot—tell you
Omdia forecast in September 2021 that cloud gaming would approach nearly $12 billion in revenue by 2026. This was a forecast made in 2021, not a measurement of 2026 revenue or evidence that the prediction came true. Even a confirmed industry-wide revenue figure would not, by itself, show which service captured the most users or market share.

Do you need a Luna Controller or Fire TV?
The Luna Controller is optional
Amazon identifies the Luna Controller as model T28B69. AWS says it can send input directly to the cloud rather than routing it through the display device. In the September 2, 2026 AWS engineering article, AWS Director of Engineering Richard Lawrence said, “With a Luna Controller, this path is even faster.” That is an AWS engineering statement, not independently tested performance, and Amazon’s service information does not make this controller mandatory.
Fire TV is one access route, not a universal requirement
AWS’s September 2026 article describes playing Luna on Fire TV and gives a Fire TV Stick as an example. Amazon also lists other supported device types, including smart TVs and PCs using a browser. Check the current compatibility requirements for a specific device before buying it; the cited article does not establish that every Fire TV model is supported.
What would prove that Amazon is catching up?
A credible claim that Luna is catching or overtaking rivals would need comparable, dated evidence—such as active users, paid subscribers, streaming hours, or gaming revenue for each service, measured over the same period and defined consistently. The cited material does not provide that comparison. For now, the defensible conclusion is narrower: Luna is an active service with several device-access paths, Microsoft reports Xbox activity records and acknowledges competition, and the available figures do not establish a market-share leader.
