Choose eero 7 for up to 2.5 Gbps service and typical household use; choose eero Pro 7 when you need 6 GHz, 5 GbE wired connections, or greater capacity for many simultaneous users.
What Amazon launched
eero introduced both routers as additions to its Wi‑Fi 7 range, with availability through Amazon.com at launch. They use the eero app for setup and management, and both can join networks that include older eero hardware.

Which eero is right for your network?
Choose eero 7 for mainstream multi-gigabit homes
eero 7 is the sensible choice for apartments, condos, townhomes and smaller houses with internet service up to 2.5 Gbps. Its dual-band design suits ordinary streaming, schoolwork, remote work and gaming when the network does not have many simultaneous high-bandwidth users. It also costs substantially less than the Pro 7 at launch.

Choose eero Pro 7 for capacity and wired headroom
eero Pro 7 is aimed at larger or busier networks: multi-floor homes, several simultaneous 4K streams, demanding gaming, creative-production workloads and small-to-medium businesses. The additional 6 GHz band gives compatible Wi‑Fi 7 clients more spectrum, while 5 GbE ports support faster wired internet and backhaul than eero 7.
Do you need tri-band Wi‑Fi 7?
Tri-band matters most when you own 6 GHz-capable clients or expect heavy concurrent traffic. eero Pro 7’s Multi-Link Operation (MLO) can use multiple links for Wi‑Fi 7 clients to improve connectivity and reduce latency. Devices that support only older Wi‑Fi generations cannot use those Wi‑Fi 7 features, so a lightly loaded network may not justify the Pro premium.

Mesh coverage and unit planning
The two models carry the same vendor-stated per-unit coverage area, but walls, floor layouts, construction materials and placement determine actual results. Start with one unit connected to your modem or gateway, then place additional units where they still receive a strong connection to the existing mesh—not at the edge of the dead zone.
- Use a wired Ethernet backhaul where possible, especially across floors or between distant rooms.
- For a multi-floor home, position units near stairwells or open central areas rather than inside cabinets.
- Size the system by layout and traffic, not just the published square-foot figure; a smaller home with dense walls may need more nodes than an open-plan home.
eero publishes support for 120-plus devices on eero 7 and 200-plus on Pro 7. Those are capacity targets, not a promise that every device can transmit at maximum speed simultaneously.

Compatibility with older eero routers
Both new models are backward compatible with earlier eero generations, allowing staged upgrades or added coverage. eero warns that mixing generations can reduce performance, and it recommends matching Wi‑Fi 7 hardware for optimal results. The slowest node, wireless links and client capabilities can all limit an otherwise faster system.
Smart-home and software features
eero 7 includes built-in Thread and Zigbee radios, a Matter controller and Alexa integration. Both products use eero’s app-based administration. Pro 7 adds eero’s TrueMesh, TrueRoam and TrueChannel systems for mesh routing, roaming and channel selection, and it is compatible with eero Plus and eero Business.

Amazon states that the routers receive automatic security and feature updates. Keep the eero app and firmware current, particularly when adding new Wi‑Fi 7 or Matter devices.

What the speed numbers mean in practice
The headline figures describe maximum vendor-rated wireless or wired throughput under specified conditions; they are not a guarantee for a particular room, device or internet provider. Your plan, modem, Ethernet cabling, client Wi‑Fi generation, radio interference and mesh hop count can all lower measured throughput. A 2.5 Gbps plan also requires compatible 2.5 GbE equipment and cabling end to end, while reaching 5 Gbps on Pro 7 requires 5 GbE-capable equipment.

- Buy eero 7 when your service is no faster than 2.5 Gbps and you want an affordable Wi‑Fi 7 mesh system for normal household traffic.
- Buy eero Pro 7 when you have up to 5 Gbps service, need 6 GHz or 5 GbE, or regularly have many demanding users and devices online at once.
- Upgrade a mixed network carefully: older eeros will work, but a fully matched Wi‑Fi 7 mesh is the better route when maximum performance is the priority.
