For most buyers, the $329.99 Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 is the best choice. It occupies the useful middle ground: an 11-inch 2.5K 90Hz screen, 8GB of RAM, Dolby Atmos speakers, full Android with Google Play, and up to 15 hours of video playback. Pick the $229.99 Tablet 8 if low weight and one-handed use matter most; choose the $499.99 Tablet 12 Pro if you need a larger 3:2 workspace, faster refresh rate and laptop-style accessories.

Amazon’s 2026 Alexa tablets are Google-certified Android tablets rather than the Fire OS products Amazon sold previously. All three include the full Google Play Store, Alexa+, and Amazon services such as Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music and Luna. The hardware, screen sizes and memory determine which model makes sense for you.

Prices are Amazon’s listed US starting prices. Battery figures are manufacturer estimates for video playback, not independent endurance tests. The recommendation for the Tablet 11 is an editorial value judgment based on its documented price and specifications, not a benchmark result.
Why the Tablet 11 is the default recommendation
The Tablet 11 avoids the compromises that define the smaller model while costing substantially less than the Pro. Its 11-inch 2.5K panel provides more workspace than an 8.7-inch reader, and the 90Hz refresh rate should make scrolling and supported animations appear smoother than on the 60Hz Tablet 8. Amazon pairs it with 8GB of RAM, twice the Tablet 8’s base memory, which gives the middle model a more comfortable specification for switching between browser tabs, streaming apps, documents and communication tools.

Dual Dolby Atmos speakers make the 11 suitable for films, television and music without immediately requiring headphones or an external speaker. Amazon rates it for up to 15 hours of video playback, one hour below the 12 Pro’s claim and one hour above the Tablet 8’s claim. That difference should not be read as a promise of identical real-world battery life: brightness, wireless radios, app activity and streaming conditions all change runtime.
Choose the 11 when you want one tablet for reading, streaming, web browsing, video calls, Google apps and light productivity. Its limitation is storage: the base configuration is 64GB, so people who keep many downloaded films, games or large files should check which higher-capacity configurations are available before ordering.
When the Alexa Tablet 8 is the smarter buy
Portability is the deciding factor
The Tablet 8 weighs 329g and has an 8.7-inch display. That combination is easier to hold in one hand on a train, in bed or while standing in a kitchen than either larger model. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and is rated for up to 14 hours of video playback. For readers who mainly use a tablet for ebooks, news, recipes, downloaded shows and short browsing sessions, the compact format can matter more than the larger models’ extra memory.
What you give up
Amazon lists the base Tablet 8 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, a 60Hz display and a $229.99 starting price. The screen is smaller and refreshes less frequently than the Tablet 11’s 90Hz panel, and the specification leaves less headroom for demanding multitasking. Those are reasonable trade-offs for a lightweight travel or reading tablet, but they make the 8 a less convincing choice as a primary family computer.

Buy the 8 if you can state your priority as “the lightest new Alexa tablet.” If your priority is “the best balance,” the additional $100 for the Tablet 11 buys a larger, sharper, faster display and twice the base RAM.
Why choose the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro
A workspace-oriented screen
The 12 Pro has a 12-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate and 280 pixels per inch. A 3:2 panel is taller than the widescreen panels commonly used for video, leaving more vertical room for documents, web pages and split-screen apps. The 120Hz rate is the highest in the range and is most relevant to people who scroll frequently, annotate documents or want the most fluid interface available in this lineup.
Memory, connectivity and sound
The Pro supports up to 16GB of RAM, compared with 4GB in the Tablet 8 and 8GB in the Tablet 11. Amazon lists Wi-Fi 6E and quad Dolby Atmos speakers, making it the strongest specification for keeping several apps open and for using the tablet as a media or work station. The base configuration starts with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, so it also gives heavier users more local capacity before they need to manage downloads.

Nanomatte and the accessory cost
A Nanomatte anti-glare configuration starts at $549.99, $50 above the standard Pro starting price. The finish may appeal to people working under bright office lights or near windows, but the available data does not establish a comparative optical test, so treat it as a surface-choice premium rather than a measured display-performance guarantee.

Amazon lists a dedicated Pro Keyboard for $149.99 and a Pro Pen for $89.99. The pen is a USI 2.0 active stylus with 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking and wireless charging. Adding both accessories to the $499.99 tablet brings the listed hardware total to $739.97 before tax; with the Nanomatte model, the equivalent total is $789.97. Those accessories make the Pro more capable as a writing and note-taking device, but they also erase much of the price advantage of buying a tablet instead of a small laptop.
Google Play changes the Fire-tablet equation
The most consequential change is software. Amazon says all three new tablets run Android and include the full Google Play Store. Named Google apps include YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs, alongside Amazon’s Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music and Luna.
Older Fire tablets used Fire OS and Amazon’s Appstore. That catalog could cover common entertainment needs, but apps that depended on Google services were unavailable, delayed or inconvenient to install. The new tablets are Google-certified Android devices, so buyers can use the standard Play Store sign-in and update model instead of relying on workarounds or unofficial sideloading. This is particularly important if your phone, school or employer already uses Google accounts and apps.

Alexa+ and the tablet interface
Alexa+ is built into each tablet and can be used by voice or touch. Amazon describes a Dynamic Tab and a personalized “For You” feed that surface recommendations and ongoing content. The design places Alexa functions alongside the tablet’s ordinary Android apps rather than restricting the assistant to a smart speaker.
TechRadar reports that Alexa+ includes a Kindle mode that can silence notifications, reduce blue light and extend battery life. That is most relevant to readers who want a distraction-reduced reading session; it is not a replacement for choosing the lighter Tablet 8 if physical portability is your main concern.
TechRadar reported a $19.99-per-month Alexa+ price for non-Prime users and said Prime members receive it at no additional charge. Subscription terms can change, so check the current offer shown in your Amazon account and region before treating Prime inclusion as a permanent benefit.

Choose the Tablet 8 for travel and reading
- You regularly hold the tablet in one hand.
- Your main activities are ebooks, news, recipes and casual streaming.
- You value a 329g device more than a large multitasking canvas.
- You want the lowest starting price and can live with 4GB of RAM and a 60Hz screen.
Choose the Tablet 11 for most households
- You want one device for streaming, browsing, Google apps and everyday communication.
- You want 8GB of RAM and a 90Hz 2.5K screen without paying Pro pricing.
- You prefer stronger media hardware than the compact model but do not need a keyboard-focused workspace.
- You want the clearest value balance at $329.99 before tax.
Choose the Tablet 12 Pro for work-style use
- You need a taller 3:2 display for documents, web research or split-screen work.
- You expect to use a keyboard or pressure-sensitive pen.
- You benefit from up to 16GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 6E and quad speakers.
- You accept a starting price of $499.99, or $549.99 for Nanomatte, before accessories.
Should a Fire-tablet owner upgrade?
Upgrade if the missing Google ecosystem is the reason your current Fire tablet feels restricted. Official Play Store access removes the need to hunt for alternatives to YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs, Netflix and other apps that were awkward or unavailable on Fire OS. The move also gives you newer screen and memory options, with the Tablet 11 and 12 Pro offering a more substantial specification jump than a basic replacement Fire tablet.

Do not upgrade solely because the Alexa name is new. Amazon has published battery estimates and specifications, but independent testing has not yet established comparative benchmark performance, sustained gaming behavior, long-term battery degradation or every app’s edge cases across all three models. If your current Fire tablet already handles your Amazon apps and you do not need Google Play, the practical benefit may be smaller than the headline software change suggests.
Availability and buying details
Amazon announced shipments for October 14, 2026, in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with shipping beginning October 19, 2026, in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Amazon.com and selected retailers including Best Buy and Target were named as sales channels. TechRepublic reported that orders opened October 8 for the initial North American markets. Because inventory, delivery dates and configurations can change by country, check the listing for your region before paying.
The published US entry prices are $229.99 for the Tablet 8, $329.99 for the Tablet 11, $499.99 for the standard 12 Pro and $549.99 for the Nanomatte 12 Pro. Taxes, storage or memory upgrades, keyboard and pen bundles, and any temporary promotions can change the checkout total.
What is still unknown
Early hands-on coverage included the 12 Pro, but TechRadar said all three tablets still required full testing before a final value verdict. There is no defensible evidence yet for a ranking based on independent benchmarks, sustained gaming, long-term battery life or complete app-compatibility testing. Amazon’s video figures should therefore be read as rated maximums under its stated test conditions, not guaranteed everyday runtimes.
On the evidence available, the buying decision is straightforward: the Tablet 11 is the sensible default, the Tablet 8 is the portability specialist, and the Tablet 12 Pro is the productivity option whose advantages become worthwhile when you will actually use its larger 3:2 display, higher memory ceiling or dedicated accessories.
