Aloft is coming to PS5 in early 2027 as a full 1.0 release, alongside the PC version’s departure from Steam Early Access. For now, the choice is straightforward: buy the Early Access game on Steam if you want to play before then, or wait for PS5 if you prefer a console and a complete launch build. Funcom has not announced a PS5 price, editions, physical disc, cross-play, or cross-save.

When does Aloft launch on PlayStation 5?
Funcom and developer Astrolabe Interactive announced Aloft’s PS5 console debut for early 2027. The timing is tied to the PC game’s 1.0 release, when it will leave Steam Early Access; Funcom has not named a specific day or month.

In its 27 October 2026 PlayStation.Blog announcement, Funcom Communications Manager Jarle Hrafn Grindhaug said: “We’ll share release dates and more details for both games at a later date.” That means there is not enough information yet to plan around a precise launch day, preorder window, or retailer release. Funcom’s announcement on X the same day likewise said the console debut would arrive with the full release, as the PC version launches 1.0 in early 2027.
The PlayStation Store has a listing where interested players can wishlist Aloft. A listing and wishlist option are not the same as a live preorder: no PS5 purchase price or preorder terms have been announced. The concept listing identifier is 10012205, but players should use the PlayStation Store rather than treat that identifier as a purchase link.
What will the PS5 version include?
Funcom says PS5 will get the complete 1.0 experience, not an older Early Access build. The studio has promised that the console version includes all five major Early Access updates as well as the 1.0 update.

What the Early Access updates added
Funcom’s summary of the five major updates names new wildlife, puzzles, combat improvements, glider customization, and expanded exploration. The most recent major update, Discovery & Ancestry, launched on 26 August 2026 and was designated the final major content update before 1.0.
Discovery & Ancestry moved the game from Unity 2021 to Unity 6 and introduced a rebuilt open world and revamped interface. Its additions include a Wind Spirit companion, Ancestral Memories and character upgrades, new sub-biomes, and cluster events such as fog, tornadoes, and asteroid fields. It also added survival conditions and tools or building features including a Spyglass, Table-Map, stockpiles, new building pieces, farmable plants, chained Life Trees, Sewing Kits, Dew Catchers, Wind Vanes, and Corruption Hearts.
Those are named features already added during Early Access, not a complete list of what 1.0 will contain. Funcom has described the 1.0 release more broadly as bringing new content, stories, and improvements, without publishing a full feature-by-feature launch specification. The August update was the last major Early Access content drop; the studio then turned its attention to 1.0.

Aloft is a cozy open-world survival sandbox set among floating islands around an eternal hurricane. Its defining idea is that an island can become a skyship: players build a helm, rudder, and sails, then glide or sail between islands to explore and gather materials.
Survival and restoration are linked. Players collect resources, craft, build homes and skyships, farm, cook, and care for animals. They also address fungal corruption and restore damaged ecosystems. The game’s creative director, Manuel Bergeron, described one of the design goals in an April 2025 Funcom press release as giving players “a chance to learn about the fragile balance of ecosystems and have a direct positive impact on their environment.”
The current Steam Early Access build includes resource gathering, crafting, building, sailing, gliding, farming, cooking, enemy encounters, crops, animals, and hundreds of building pieces. Its tone is aimed at cooperative or peaceful play rather than competitive player-versus-player combat. That description does not mean there is no combat: the game includes enemy types and combat improvements.

The setting and building loop also make the game different from a conventional survival map. Rather than only establishing a fixed base, players can turn islands into moving homes and travel through the skies. In co-op, multiple players’ skyships can join together as a roaming village, while island restoration gives exploration a purpose beyond collecting materials.

The PC version supports online co-op for up to eight players: one host and as many as seven other players. Funcom has promised the PS5 version will provide the same gameplay experience, but has not published the PlayStation-specific online requirements or party details.
On PC, players can choose solo play or multiplayer, with private joining and public lobbies. Steam’s game description presents Aloft as playable “solo or as a group of up to 8 friends.” The cooperative format supports different approaches: a group can divide day-to-day tasks, sail together, or chain attacks against enemies.
Players can bring an entire island or skyship into another player’s world, allowing a group to gather multiple flying homes into a moving village. On Steam, Workshop sharing and the in-game Island Editor support creating and sharing skyships or islands. Whether PS5 will have a comparable island-sharing system is not announced.
Steam’s current store features identify Aloft as single-player and online co-op. They do not list a full-controller-support badge, so players who rely on a particular control setup should check the live store listing and accessibility information before buying on PC. The game is described as PvE co-op survival, not a PvP extraction game or battle royale.

Is Aloft cross-play or cross-save between PS5 and Steam?
Neither cross-play nor cross-save between PS5 and Steam has been confirmed. Funcom’s promise of the same gameplay experience does not answer whether people on the two platforms can join each other’s sessions, or whether PC progress can be transferred to a PlayStation save.
Other PlayStation-specific details are also unannounced: whether online co-op requires PlayStation Plus, whether split-screen or couch co-op is supported, and whether voice chat or cross-platform parties are available. Do not buy the game on one platform assuming a friend on the other platform can join, or that progress will carry over later.
On PC, Steam lists cloud saves, but that is a Steam feature and should not be confused with a shared save between Steam and PlayStation. Likewise, Steam Workshop support and an Island Editor do not establish that user-created content can be imported into the PS5 version. Those are separate platform features that need specific confirmation.
Which Aloft editions can you buy?
As of November 2026, PS5 is one announced forthcoming product, not a lineup of Standard, Deluxe, Gold, or Ultimate editions. No PlayStation physical disc, steelbook, retail SKU, or PS5 equivalent of the Steam Supporter Pack has been announced.
On PC, the Steam purchase options are more defined. The base game has been in Early Access since 15 January 2025. The optional Supporter Pack is separate from the base game and is not required to play; its contents are digital extras rather than gameplay access. Steam also offers a Supporter Bundle that combines the game and pack.

The Supporter Pack launched on 15 January 2025 and includes a digital artbook with concept art, illustrations, and 3D models, plus the full digital soundtrack, 4K biome wallpapers, key art in multiple device formats, and official emojis. It is optional: buying it is not a requirement to access the base game. The free Earth Appreciation Glider pack, released on 17 April 2026, adds a Spider’s Web Glider Pattern and Rainbow Glider Trail, both cosmetic items.
Price information checked Nov 2026. Steam prices are regional: an India-region storefront snapshot, for example, showed ₹1,100 for the base game and ₹360 for the Supporter Pack. Storefront prices and promotions can change; Funcom’s past 30% Steam discount, which brought the game to $17.49 / €17.49 in 2026, was promotional and should be treated as expired unless the live store page shows it.
Other cross-title Steam bundles involving Aloft, Forever Skies, Voyagers of Nera, and Spirit City: Lofi Sessions are store promotions, not extra Aloft editions or a different game build. There is no reason to wait for a supposed PS5 Deluxe bundle on the basis of the PC Supporter Pack; Funcom has not announced that pack or a counterpart for console.

Should you buy Aloft on Steam now or wait for PS5?
Buy on Steam now if you have a suitable Windows PC, want to play before 2027, and are comfortable with an unfinished Early Access game. Wait for PS5 if you are console-first, prefer to play with PlayStation friends, or want to start with the full 1.0 release rather than an in-progress version.

Choose Steam if you want to play before 1.0
The clearest reason to choose PC is immediate availability. It is also the only platform with confirmed access to Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud, and the Supporter Pack. Those features may matter if you want to exchange player-created builds or keep the game within your existing Steam library. Steam also lists Family Sharing and achievements.
The trade-off is that you are buying into Early Access, not a finished 1.0 release. Five major updates have already expanded the game, but Early Access means the current build is still the version before the studio’s complete 1.0 release. A future PC price increase is likely according to the developer, but the amount is unknown. If you later move to PS5, your Steam progress may not transfer; Funcom has not confirmed cross-save.
Before choosing PC, compare the Steam requirements with your machine rather than assuming the game will run well on any Windows computer. The stated minimums include 16 GB RAM, a GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card, and 12 GB of storage; the full listed processor requirements appear below. If your co-op group already plays on Steam, the PC option also avoids depending on unannounced cross-play.
Choose PS5 if you prefer console and can wait
Waiting avoids buying an Early Access version if your preference is to begin with the completed launch build. It is also the straightforward choice if your gaming setup and friends are on PlayStation, though specific multiplayer requirements have not been announced.
Waiting leaves some purchase details open: the price, editions, possible physical release, and the availability of Steam-like creator or cloud features. If those details affect your decision, wait for Funcom’s later announcement rather than assuming the PC offer will be duplicated on PS5. A console launch is confirmed; a disc, Deluxe edition, PS Plus policy, or technical target is not.

When does buying both make sense?
Buying on Steam now and again on PS5 could make sense if you want to play immediately on PC and later have a console copy. Treat the two purchases as potentially separate playthroughs unless Funcom confirms cross-save. A PS5 purchase should not be viewed as an automatic upgrade or transfer from Steam.

For readers who are undecided, the key question is whether playing during the remaining Early Access period is worth paying now despite uncertain save transfer and a possible later price increase. If not, wishlisting the PS5 version is the lower-risk choice: it preserves the option to buy once Funcom posts the date, price, and edition details.
What does the PC version require?
The Steam listing specifies Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, and 12 GB of storage. Its minimum processor is an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, with a GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card. These are PC requirements, not a measure of PS5 performance; no PS5 resolution, frame-rate target, DualSense feature, or PS5 Pro mode has been announced.
Steam lists 12 interface and subtitle languages. It does not list full audio localization among those language options. Language availability on PS5 has not been separately specified. PC players may also want to note that the Steam store page lists Workshop, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing, but no full-controller-support badge; controller support details should be checked on the live storefront if they are important to your setup.
Is Aloft coming to Xbox or Nintendo Switch?
No Xbox Series or Nintendo Switch version has been announced. Funcom described PS5 as the game’s console debut; that announcement is not evidence of a simultaneous multi-console release or a future release on another system. Xbox questions appeared in replies to Funcom’s announcement, but the studio has not announced an Xbox edition.
Likewise, no Xbox Game Pass or PS4 version has been announced. Players should treat Steam and the forthcoming PS5 release as the only confirmed platform paths in this announcement cycle. The separate Conan Exiles Enhanced announcement in the same PlayStation.Blog post is a different Funcom product, not an Aloft edition or upgrade offer.

Steam’s English-language user reviews were 84% Very Positive from 1,978 reviews when accessed in 2026. The more recent slice was softer: 70% of 27 reviews in the previous 30 days were Mostly Positive. Those figures describe different review windows, so the recent rating should not be mistaken for the lifetime percentage. Review scores can change as more players post, and they reflect Steam users rather than a PS5 audience.
Funcom reported more than 300,000 Steam wishlists before Early Access in 2024 and more than 200,000 Early Access sales as of 22 April 2025. No later official sales total is established here. The developer also said Aloft was among the most-played Steam Next Fest demos in June 2024.
