Here’s what each Horde Siege class does and how to choose one for your squad.
What “Ranked” means in Gears of War: E-Day
The Coalition’s July 30, 2026 multiplayer overview separates Versus from Horde Siege. Versus playlists are marked Ranked or Social; each Ranked playlist has its own rank and skill rating. After placement matches, players receive a Skill Division and a Rank. Skill Division is a relative matchmaking measure that can fluctuate, while Rank Rating tracks ladder progress and changes with match results and performance.
Those systems measure player progress in Versus. They do not rank Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic. The overview does not publish a class tier list or comparative win rates.
All four Horde Siege classes
Choose a class before each Horde Siege mission. Each has a starting loadout, a combat bonus, unlock progression, and Tactical Gear. The roles and abilities below are the developer’s descriptions, rather than results from comparative gameplay testing.

Assault: adaptable midrange pressure
Assault suits players who want a flexible role. The Sonic Disruptor can stun incoming waves around defended objectives, while the cover-damage bonus supports fighting from protected positions.
Breacher: close-range, high-risk pushes
Breacher is built for the frontline. The Adrenaline Injector restores health and reduces incoming damage during a push, and the class has added resistance to status effects and melee damage.

Marksman: precision and enemy tagging
Marksman is suited to longer sightlines and precision damage. Its Pulse Drone tags Locust units for both the player and squad, and its bonus increases critical-hit damage.
Medic: healing and revives
Medic supports the team with the Stim Vaporizer, which heals and revives nearby Gears—including downed soldiers from other squads. Faster health regeneration is its stated class bonus.

Which class should you choose?
Match the role to the job you want to do and the needs of your squad. These are practical ways to read the official class descriptions, not a universal ranking:
- Choose Assault for flexible midrange play and added damage while in cover.
- Choose Breacher if you want to push enemies at close range with extra sustain and resistance.
- Choose Marksman for precision damage, longer sightlines, and tagging targets for teammates.
- Choose Medic if healing and reviving nearby squad members is your priority.
The class that feels most useful can depend on the mission and your squad’s needs; later balance updates may also change how abilities perform. The Coalition says players can mix classes freely and explicitly gives a squad of four Breachers as an allowed setup. Its overview states: “While our classes are meant to complement one another; there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.”

Where classes fit: Horde Siege versus Versus
Horde Siege is described by The Coalition as a 12-player evolution of Gears’ wave-based survival mode. Squads take on missions and emergent challenges on maps set in Kalona, then face a final fight and extraction. Class selection is part of preparing for those Horde Siege missions.
Ranked progression, by contrast, belongs to Versus playlists. The official overview does not describe these four Horde Siege classes as a Ranked Versus system.
