Akamai’s later financial filings put the cash consideration at $451.5 million. The deal was meant to strengthen Akamai’s API protection with broader discovery and security capabilities across cloud, edge, on-premises, and other vendor environments.
What happened in the Akamai–Noname deal?
On May 7, 2024, Akamai announced a definitive agreement to acquire all outstanding equity of Noname Security. The announced transaction value was approximately $450 million, subject to customary purchase-price adjustments. Akamai expected the transaction to close in the second quarter of 2024; it completed the acquisition in June.
The announcement figure and the later accounting figures are not identical. Akamai’s filings record different purchase-consideration amounts as its accounting for the acquisition developed:
| Figure | What it represents | Timing and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Approximately $450 million | Announced transaction value | Akamai’s May 7, 2024 announcement; subject to customary purchase-price adjustments. |
| $452.319 million | Preliminary total purchase consideration | Reported in Akamai’s 2025 Form 10-K for 2024 accounting. |
| $451.5 million | Cash consideration | Reported in Akamai’s 2026 Form 10-K for 2025 accounting. |
The figures describe the deal at different reporting stages and use different accounting descriptions. The $450 million amount was the announcement headline; $451.5 million is the cash consideration in Akamai’s later filing.

Why did Akamai buy Noname Security?
Akamai said the acquisition would enhance its existing API Security offering as businesses increasingly relied on APIs. APIs connect applications and services, but they can be difficult for organizations to track across distributed environments. An API that has not been properly inventoried or managed—sometimes called a “shadow” API—can leave security teams with limited visibility into exposure and activity.
Akamai’s stated aim was to combine its existing capabilities with Noname’s technology to help customers discover APIs, identify vulnerabilities, and detect attacks. The companies described the planned offering as suitable for applications running in the cloud, at the edge, on-premises, or on other vendors’ platforms.

When Akamai announced the deal, its executive vice president and general manager of the Security Technology Group, Mani Sundaram, said the company’s own data showed API attacks had grown 109% year over year. That was Akamai’s cited figure at announcement time, not an independent measure of the acquisition’s impact or of API-attack growth in every organization.
What did Akamai expect the deal to mean financially?
At announcement, Akamai forecast that Noname would contribute approximately $20 million in fiscal-2024 revenue. It also forecast near-term dilution of approximately 0.50% to non-GAAP operating margin and approximately $0.10 to non-GAAP diluted earnings per share. These were forecasts made in 2024, not reported outcomes after the acquisition closed.

Akamai also said more than 200 Noname employees were expected to join its Security Technology Group. The company later described the integration of the two companies’ capabilities into a unified product called Akamai API Security.

The strategic significance is the intended breadth of the combined offering: API discovery and shadow-API visibility, vulnerability and attack detection, and support for multiple deployment environments. That matters to enterprises whose applications and APIs do not all run in one cloud or under one vendor’s control.

Noname CEO and co-founder Oz Golan framed the goal as protecting applications wherever they reside, including cloud, edge, on-premises, and other vendor platforms. Akamai’s product materials describe the combined capabilities under the Akamai API Security name.
Those statements explain Akamai’s product direction, not an independent performance comparison. The cited deal information does not establish that the combined product outperforms competing API-security platforms. Buyers evaluating it should compare their own requirements for API discovery, vulnerability and attack detection, deployment flexibility, vendor integrations, and enterprise support.
