For most developers, the strongest AdMob alternatives are AppLovin MAX and Unity LevelPlay because they are mediation platforms rather than single ad networks. They let multiple demand sources compete for each impression through in-app bidding, waterfall rules, or a hybrid of both. Unity Ads, Meta Audience Network, Liftoff Monetize, Mintegral, Amazon Publisher Services, Pangle, InMobi and other networks can then be added as bidders or waterfall sources.
There is no universal highest-paying replacement. Net revenue changes with country, ad format, placement, consent rate, app category, fill, latency and the commercial terms of every participating network. A sensible migration compares those results under identical conditions instead of assuming that one SDK will outperform AdMob everywhere.
What an “AdMob alternative” actually means
Developers often use the phrase to describe two different products:
Recommended Free Tools
- A mediation platform such as AppLovin MAX or Unity LevelPlay. Mediation connects several networks, runs an auction or waterfall, and gives you one integration and reporting layer.
- A demand source such as Unity Ads, Meta Audience Network, Liftoff Monetize or Mintegral. A demand source supplies ads; it can usually be plugged into a mediation platform instead of replacing the whole stack.
This distinction matters. Replacing AdMob with one other single network changes your source of demand but leaves you exposed to that network’s fill, pricing and policy decisions. Moving to mediation changes the operating model: several networks can compete for the same impression, while you manage more adapters, accounts and payment relationships.

At-a-glance comparison
| Option | Role | Competition model | Formats documented in the ecosystem | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AppLovin MAX | Mediation platform | Bidding, waterfall and hybrid configurations | Rewarded, interstitial, banner/MREC and native through supported sources | Teams wanting a unified auction, broad demand and central tooling | More SDK and account operations; mediated networks generally pay you directly |
| Unity LevelPlay | Mediation platform | Bidding, non-bidding waterfalls and hybrid setups | Rewarded, interstitial, banner/MREC and native through supported sources | Unity-based games and teams already using Unity monetization tools | Adapter maintenance and eligibility checks across many networks |
| Unity Ads direct | Demand source | Single-network integration | Primarily game-oriented video and interstitial/rewarded inventory | Small Unity projects that value a simple setup | Less auction competition and diversification than mediation |
| Meta Audience Network | Demand source | App bidding and other mediated integrations | Rewarded video and formats available to the account and region | Testing Meta demand as one bidder | Regional, account and policy eligibility can vary |
| Liftoff Monetize | Demand source | Available through supported mediation integrations | Format support depends on the mediation adapter and region | Adding another bidder or waterfall source for diversification | No evidence of a universal premium over AdMob |
| Mintegral | Demand source | Available through supported mediation integrations | Format support depends on the mediation adapter and region | Testing additional demand by country and format | Performance is traffic-dependent, not guaranteed |
| Amazon Publisher Services | Demand source | Supported bidding or mediation connection where eligible | Format support depends on the integration | Adding demand in countries where it has useful buyer competition | Separate approval, reporting and payment administration |
| Pangle and InMobi | Demand sources | Supported through mediation integrations | Format support depends on the integration and market | Regional diversification | Country, format and account eligibility must be checked |
Unity’s current mediated-network documentation lists AppLovin, Unity Ads, Meta Audience Network, Liftoff Monetize, Mintegral, Google AdMob, Pangle, InMobi, Amazon Publisher Services and many other sources. It identifies whether each source is bidding, non-bidding or hybrid and lists support for rewarded, interstitial, banner/MREC and native formats. Treat that table as a compatibility reference, not as a promise that every source is available for every country or app.
How mediation changes an impression
In-app bidding
With bidding, eligible networks submit a price for the impression in real time. The mediation layer compares those bids and selects the winning source according to the auction rules. This can reduce manual eCPM-floor maintenance and lets demand compete on a per-impression basis, but it requires current adapters, correct price and revenue signals, and enough buyers in the target geography.
Waterfalls
A waterfall orders networks or instances by an expected price. If the first source fails to fill or times out, the request moves down the list. Waterfalls can still be useful when a network does not support bidding, when you need a contractual floor, or when a format is not eligible for an in-app auction. They also create more configuration work: stale floors or poor ordering can send impressions to a lower-value source.

Most practical stacks combine both methods. Bidders compete alongside non-bidding networks placed in a waterfall. Unity’s documentation labels sources as bidding, non-bidding or hybrid so you can see where each connection fits. A hybrid setup increases demand breadth, but every additional SDK adds release, privacy and troubleshooting obligations.
The operational flow
- The app requests an ad after applying your placement and frequency rules.
- The mediation SDK checks consent state, targeting restrictions and format eligibility.
- Bidders return offers; waterfall sources are called according to their configured order.
- The winning network serves the ad, and the mediation layer records an impression, revenue estimate, latency and error information.
- The network that served the impression normally reports final earnings in its own account, so reconciliation is required.
AppLovin MAX: the broad platform alternative
What MAX provides
MAX is designed as a publisher-facing mediation platform with a unified dashboard, ad-quality controls and access to multiple bidding and waterfall sources. It is attractive when you want one integration to coordinate a broad network mix rather than maintain a direct-only relationship with one provider.
MAX can be useful for games that depend on rewarded and interstitial inventory, but it also supports banner/MREC and native demand through compatible networks. The practical benefit is not the MAX SDK by itself; it is the competition among the networks you connect and the quality of your placement, consent and frequency settings.
MAX fees
AppLovin’s public statement is: Max mediation is free for publishers. Bidding networks pay AppLovin a fee on generated ad revenue.
The statement does not publish one universal percentage. Do not model your business with an assumed standard take rate. Compare the net amount you receive after each network’s terms, invalid-traffic adjustments, taxes and payment costs.
MAX payment administration
AppLovin’s payment documentation says the MAX dashboard can show activity from mediated networks, while linked networks generally pay publishers directly. Google pays publishers directly for AppLovin impressions served through Google Open Bidding. Consequently, moving to MAX can increase the number of payer accounts, invoices, thresholds and payment calendars your finance process must reconcile.
When MAX is a good choice
- You have enough traffic for several networks to compete meaningfully.
- You want a single mediation implementation and centralized operational controls.
- You can support adapter updates, consent integrations and multiple network accounts.
- You are prepared to judge success by net revenue and user impact, not by a headline eCPM.
MAX limitations to plan for
- A broad demand list does not guarantee availability or high bids in your countries.
- Each adapter and SDK can affect binary size, startup time, crash risk and privacy disclosures.
- Reporting may be centralized while final payment and adjustment details remain distributed across networks.
- Ad-quality incidents can originate in a connected network, so review and blocking workflows still matter.
Unity LevelPlay: mediation for Unity-centric teams
What LevelPlay provides
Unity LevelPlay is Unity’s end-to-end mediation option. Unity documents support for a wide set of networks and identifies which connections use bidding, waterfalls or a hybrid approach. A Unity-first studio can keep monetization configuration close to its existing Unity workflow while still allowing non-Unity demand to compete.

LevelPlay supports common mobile formats through its connected sources, including rewarded ads, interstitials, banners or MREC units and native placements where the selected network and adapter allow them. Always verify the current adapter and regional eligibility before committing a format to a release.
Unity Ads can be used three ways
- Direct Unity Ads integration: the app calls Unity’s ad service without a broader mediation layer.
- Unity Ads as an in-app bidder: Unity Ads competes inside Unity LevelPlay, AppLovin MAX or Google mediation.
- LevelPlay as the complete mediation solution: LevelPlay coordinates Unity Ads and other demand sources in one stack.
Unity’s current guidance favors using Unity Ads as a bidder through mediation when you need broader competition. Direct integration can be simpler for a small Unity game, but it gives up diversification and auction pressure from other networks.
LevelPlay trade-offs
- Strength: a natural fit for Unity projects and mobile games that rely on rewarded and interstitial placements.
- Strength: clear documentation of which networks are bidding, non-bidding or hybrid.
- Cost: every connected network brings an adapter, SDK version, account approval and privacy review.
- Cost: format and country support can change, so a configuration that works in one market may not be eligible in another.
Unity Ads direct: when simplicity beats breadth
A direct Unity Ads setup can be reasonable for an early-stage Unity game with limited traffic, a small number of placements and no finance team to reconcile several payers. Fewer SDKs generally mean fewer integration points and a smaller operational surface.
The trade-off is opportunity cost. A single source cannot compete against itself, and a weak fill rate or low bid in one country has no alternative demand to catch the impression. Unity’s current monetization guidance supports using Ads as a bidder in a mediation stack when you want better competition. Start direct only when the simplicity benefit outweighs the likely loss of diversification, and plan a controlled mediation test as the app grows.
Meta Audience Network as a demand source
Meta Audience Network supports app bidding and promotes rewarded video. Meta’s publisher page says Audience Network empowers more than 37,000 active app developers and publishers
. That is a vendor-reported ecosystem figure, not a prediction of what your app will earn.
Meta is usually most useful as one bidder inside MAX, LevelPlay or another supported mediation layer. Availability, approval and performance depend on the account, country, format, consent state and traffic quality. Test it with the same placement and frequency rules used for other bidders; do not treat the network’s scale claim as evidence that it will beat AdMob for your audience.

Liftoff Monetize, Mintegral and other sources
Liftoff Monetize and Mintegral
Both Liftoff Monetize and Mintegral appear in Unity’s supported mediation ecosystem. They can add demand diversity, especially when your existing bidders are weak in a particular country or format. Public information does not establish that either network universally pays more than AdMob. Their value must be measured from your own net proceeds, fill and user outcomes.
Amazon Publisher Services, Pangle and InMobi
Amazon Publisher Services, Pangle and InMobi are additional sources listed in Unity’s mediated-network documentation. Their usefulness depends on where your users are, which formats you show and whether your account is approved. Regional testing is more informative than a global average because buyer competition differs sharply between countries.

Why adding every network is not automatically better
More demand can improve auction pressure, but more SDKs also increase binary size, initialization time, crash surface, consent strings, adapter updates and reporting complexity. Add a source when it has a measurable hypothesis—for example, stronger rewarded demand in a specific country—not merely because it appears on a compatibility list.
Fees, revenue share and what “pays more” means
Do not rely on a standard revenue-share number
Ad monetization contracts vary by network, product, geography, account status and traffic quality. The public MAX statement confirms that the mediation product is free for publishers and that bidding networks pay AppLovin a fee on generated ad revenue, but it does not disclose one percentage that applies to every publisher. Other networks may have their own revenue shares, adjustments and contractual terms.

Compare net economics, not the displayed eCPM
For each country and format, calculate the money that reaches you after all applicable deductions. A useful internal model is:
net revenue = reported revenue − network or mediation fees − invalid-traffic adjustments − taxes and payment costs
Then relate that result to impressions, sessions and active users. A source with a high gross eCPM can lose if it has low fill, high latency, frequent errors or a retention cost.
Payout and reconciliation factors
| Factor | Why it affects the decision | What to verify in the account |
|---|---|---|
| Payment threshold | You may wait longer for small balances or maintain several minimums. | Threshold currency, amount and whether it differs by payment method |
| Payment timing | Cash-flow timing changes when several networks pay on different schedules. | Net-terms period, payment date and treatment of adjustments |
| Currency and tax | Conversion fees and withholding can reduce realized proceeds. | Settlement currency, tax forms and withholding rules for your entity |
| Invalid traffic | Late deductions can make early eCPM comparisons misleading. | Detection policy, adjustment window and dispute process |
| Direct payer relationships | Mediation reporting may not be the same as final payment reporting. | Which network pays you, which dashboard is authoritative and how discrepancies are handled |
Exact thresholds, approval rules, timing and regional availability are account-specific and can change. Check each platform’s current publisher terms before migrating.

Mobile games
Games commonly earn from rewarded video and interstitials. A mediation platform is usually more valuable than a direct replacement because it lets several buyers compete for high-value moments such as a reward prompt or a level transition. Use frequency caps and placement rules to protect retention; an extra impression is not profitable if it causes players to leave.

Utility and productivity apps
Utilities often depend more on banners, MREC units or native placements, with occasional interstitials. Test whether the added revenue from a larger SDK stack exceeds the engineering and latency cost. Native ads require careful layout and disclosure so that users can distinguish an ad from app content.
Markets with uneven demand
Country-level reporting is essential. A bidder that performs well in one region may have little buyer competition elsewhere. Split results by country, operating system, format and placement before changing global floors or disabling a network.
Consent-limited traffic
Consent rates affect addressable demand and therefore fill and price. Keep the consent flow identical during tests and record the share of requests that are personalized, non-personalized or blocked. A mediation migration cannot compensate for a broken or late consent signal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to migrate from AdMob without losing the baseline
- Inventory your current setup. Record every placement, format, request volume, fill rate, eCPM, ARPDAU, latency, crash rate, retention measure and country mix. Export enough history to cover weekday and weekend behavior.
- Choose the mediation candidate. Select MAX or LevelPlay based on your team’s platform, supported formats, target countries and willingness to operate multiple SDKs. Keep AdMob available as a demand source during the test where the integration permits it.
- Define the experiment. Freeze placement names, ad frequency, reward values, consent screens, app version and targeting rules. Decide in advance which metrics would justify a rollout.
- Create network accounts and approvals. Complete each source’s publisher application, tax information, app-ads declarations and payment setup before release. Approval delays are a common reason a planned bidder is absent from production.
- Add SDKs and adapters incrementally. Start with a small group of demand sources. Follow the mediation provider’s exact version compatibility matrix, then test initialization, ad loading, callbacks, reward delivery and app resume behavior on supported devices.
- Implement privacy controls. Pass consent and child-directed or age-related flags consistently to the mediation layer and every network that receives a request. Verify behavior for users who decline, users in regulated regions and users without a consent decision.
- Run internal quality tests. Use test ad units, inspect logs, check impression and click callbacks, and confirm that rewarded content is granted only after the documented completion event. Never generate artificial production traffic.
- Release a controlled percentage. Use a staged rollout or remote configuration so you can compare the new stack with the AdMob baseline and disable a faulty source without a full emergency release.
- Reconcile money, not only events. Compare mediation estimates with each network’s final reports after adjustments have settled. Investigate large gaps before declaring a winner.
- Expand only after stability is proven. Add networks or formats when the first configuration is stable; changing the auction, SDK set and placement rules at the same time makes failures difficult to diagnose.
A controlled testing plan
Run the comparison long enough to include normal traffic variation, and keep the app and placement behavior constant. Randomly assign comparable users or use a carefully staged rollout; avoid comparing one holiday week with an ordinary week.
Metrics to collect
- Net eCPM: realized proceeds per thousand impressions after known fees and later adjustments.
- Fill rate: impressions or successful loads divided by eligible requests, with the denominator defined consistently.
- ARPDAU: ad revenue per daily active user, separated by country and platform.
- Latency: time from request to a usable ad and timeout frequency.
- Reliability: load errors, callback failures, crashes, freezes and app-start impact.
- User outcomes: session length, retention, purchase conversion and uninstall rate around ad-exposed cohorts.
- Ad quality: reports of misleading creatives, inappropriate content, redirects or repeated ads.
- Payment reliability: whether reported earnings arrive on schedule and match contractual adjustments.
How to interpret the result
Compare by country, format and placement rather than relying on one blended average. A network may raise rewarded-video revenue while lowering banner fill, or improve one country while adding latency elsewhere. Keep a source when its incremental net value exceeds its engineering, privacy and support cost. Vendor statements about a “meaningful lift” are claims, not independent guarantees; your controlled results should decide the rollout.
Common failure modes and fixes
High eCPM but lower total revenue
This usually means the source wins expensive impressions but fills fewer requests. Check fill, timeouts and the number of eligible opportunities before changing floors. A lower eCPM with reliable fill can produce more daily revenue.
Revenue falls after adding several SDKs
Inspect initialization order, adapter versions, consent propagation, request timeouts and crash logs. Disable new sources one at a time through remote configuration to identify whether a particular SDK causes latency or instability.

Different dashboards disagree
Mediation estimates and network-reported earnings can use different time zones, impression definitions and adjustment windows. Align date ranges and currencies, wait for late reporting, then reconcile by network, country and placement.

A bidder never serves
Check account approval, app and package identifiers, country eligibility, format support, consent status, adapter compatibility and whether the source has buyers for the test traffic. Being listed as supported does not mean every request is eligible.
Users complain about intrusive ads
Review frequency caps, interstitial timing, creative quality and accidental-click patterns. Protect core actions and loading screens from surprise interruptions. Revenue gains that damage retention are not sustainable gains.
Privacy, policy and maintenance obligations
Every connected network can receive device, app and advertising signals. Maintain a current vendor inventory in your privacy notice, pass consent decisions consistently, honor child-safety requirements and remove sources that cannot meet your jurisdictional obligations. Keep SDKs and adapters patched, monitor release notes, and retest after operating-system or mediation-version updates.
Ad review is also an ongoing process. Set blocking and escalation procedures, capture creative IDs when available, and give users a clear reporting path. A mediation platform can centralize controls, but it cannot eliminate the policy responsibility created by each demand source.
Bottom line: which alternative should you use?
Choose AppLovin MAX when you want a broad, platform-neutral mediation stack with a unified dashboard and are comfortable reconciling payments from several networks. Choose Unity LevelPlay when your team is deeply invested in Unity tooling and wants documented bidding, waterfall and hybrid support around a game-focused workflow. Use Unity Ads direct only when a simple single-source setup is more valuable than additional auction competition. Add Meta Audience Network, Liftoff Monetize, Mintegral, Amazon Publisher Services, Pangle, InMobi and other sources as measured bidders or waterfall partners, not as guaranteed winners.
The best AdMob alternative is the stack that produces the highest sustainable net revenue for your countries, formats and placements while preserving consent, app stability and retention. Establish an AdMob baseline, run a controlled mediation test, reconcile final payouts and keep only the demand sources that prove their value.
