ActiveCampaign is a marketing platform for businesses that need more than email newsletters: it combines email marketing, behavioral automation, segmentation, CRM, reporting, forms, landing pages, and other messaging channels. Its depth may suit teams with connected marketing and sales workflows, but the best-fit plan and price depend on contact volume, user seats, automation needs, and add-ons. ActiveCampaign’s public pricing information is not consistent, so get a quote for your actual requirements and use the limited trial to test a representative workflow.

What is ActiveCampaign?

ActiveCampaign is cloud software that brings email campaigns, marketing automation, and CRM functions into one platform. The vendor also lists segmentation, reporting, forms, landing pages, ecommerce connections, and additional messaging capabilities. That breadth makes it a different proposition from a basic email sender: a team can use customer behavior and contact data to coordinate marketing journeys and sales processes.

ActiveCampaign says it serves 180,000 customers and processes more than 4 billion automated experiences each week. Those are vendor-published scale figures, not an independent performance assessment. Its customer stories also report specific outcomes, including a 50% reduction in manual sales qualification tasks for Internet Strategy Labs, 189% year-over-year contact growth for Her First 100K, and $76,717 in revenue from a single Pit Boss Grills email campaign. Treat these as individual case-study results, not forecasts for a new customer. ActiveCampaign’s review page

Who uses ActiveCampaign?

It is most relevant to small and midsize businesses that want marketing automation connected to customer records, ecommerce activity, or sales follow-up. It may be a fit if you need to segment audiences by behavior, build journeys with branching logic, and coordinate marketing with a sales team. A company that only sends occasional, simple newsletters may not need that depth and could find the added setup and administration unnecessary.

  • Consider it if your campaigns depend on customer actions, detailed segments, or marketing-to-sales handoffs.
  • Check the plan carefully if several people need access, your automations require many actions, or you rely on particular CRM or ecommerce connections.
  • Compare simpler options if your needs are mostly basic broadcasts and easy setup matters more than sophisticated automation.

How much does ActiveCampaign cost?

ActiveCampaign currently presents Starter, Plus, Pro, and Enterprise plans, but its pricing page directs buyers toward tailored pricing rather than showing a stable numeric quote in the captured view. The vendor’s own FAQ pages conflict: its reviews page gives a $29 starting figure for fewer than 1,000 contacts, while its About page gives $15 for that contact range. Neither figure should be treated as a definitive current price. Ask ActiveCampaign to quote your contact count, plan, billing period, user seats, and required add-ons.

ActiveCampaign describes annual plans as a single yearly payment at a discounted rate and monthly plans as billed monthly; it does not establish an exact discount in the cited pricing material. Contact count affects pricing, and certain capabilities are add-ons. ActiveCampaign pricing · Reviews and pricing FAQ · About and pricing FAQ

Which plan and features should you evaluate?

The plan matrix differentiates segmentation, automation action limits, user seats, and access to certain integrations and add-ons. The following is the plan presentation shown on ActiveCampaign’s pricing page; limits and packaging can change.

Plan Segmentation Actions per automation Users
Starter Limited 5 1
Plus Standard Not stated on the captured plan summary 1
Pro Advanced Not stated on the captured plan summary 3
Enterprise Premium Not stated on the captured plan summary 5

  • Contacts: use your expected contact count when requesting a quote, and account for growth.
  • Automation design: list the actions and branches in a typical journey, then confirm the applicable limits for the specific plan.
  • Team access: count the people who need accounts; the displayed matrix lists one user for Starter and Plus, three for Pro, and five for Enterprise.
  • Sales and ecommerce stack: confirm the exact connection and plan availability. The pricing page lists standard ecommerce integrations including Shopify, Square, and WooCommerce, and premium options including BigCommerce, Magento, and Shopify Plus. Listed CRM integrations include Freshsales, Pipedrive, Zoho, Salesforce, and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Extra channels: determine whether you need SMS, WhatsApp, transactional email, or enhanced CRM and whether those require an add-on.

The SMS add-on is described as supporting consent tools, two-way messaging, personalized broadcasts, automated sends, and reply triggers. The captured page says personalized broadcasts are available in the US, UK, and Australia, while MMS is available only in the US and Australia. Confirm current regional availability and add-on terms before relying on a specific capability. Plan and add-on details

How does the free trial work?

ActiveCampaign describes a 14-day trial with Professional-tier features, capped at 100 contacts and 100 sent emails. The vendor says you are not charged unless you manually upgrade. The contact and email caps can make the trial inadequate for evaluating a larger list or a high-volume campaign, so use it to test a representative workflow rather than assuming it proves how the service will behave at your full operating scale. Check the current trial terms when signing up. ActiveCampaign free trial

Does ActiveCampaign integrate with my existing tools?

ActiveCampaign lists a broad integration catalog, including ecommerce systems and CRM products, but availability can depend on the plan. The pricing page identifies Shopify, Square, and WooCommerce among standard ecommerce connections, and BigCommerce, Magento, and Shopify Plus among premium options. For CRM, it lists Freshsales, Pipedrive, Zoho, Salesforce, and Microsoft Dynamics.

Do not rely on a category-level match alone. Confirm that your specific account tier supports the integration, that the data you need can move in the required direction, and that the connection supports the events your automations depend on. ActiveCampaign’s page cites more than 950 integrations, a vendor-published count that does not guarantee a particular workflow will work as required. ActiveCampaign integrations

What do reviews say about ActiveCampaign?

Review evidence points to automation and feature breadth as notable strengths, while leaving room for questions about usability, deliverability, and value. TechRadar’s 2026 review praises the breadth of features and identifies price as a drawback. On Gartner Peer Insights, one user comment dated June 16, 2026 praises automation, segmentation, and integrations; the listing also includes a critical review headline about deliverability and usability. These are signals from reviewers, not proof of how a particular plan will perform with your list and workflows. TechRadar’s ActiveCampaign review · Gartner Peer Insights listing

ActiveCampaign’s own review page reports a 4.5 out of 5 rating and displays more than 14,000 reviews in its rating panel, alongside a broader claim of over 26,000 reviews across G2, Trustpilot, and other sites. Those are vendor-presented figures, not an independently audited total. Testimonials selected by the vendor can illustrate individual experiences, but they are not a representative sample. How should you compare ActiveCampaign with alternatives?

Compare platforms using the workflows and costs you actually expect, not a generic feature count. ActiveCampaign’s March 2026 comparison guide characterizes Mailchimp as more approachable for simple, low-volume campaigns and HubSpot as a CRM-centered ecosystem for broader go-to-market teams. Those are ActiveCampaign’s own competitor descriptions, not neutral rankings. ActiveCampaign comparison guide

  • Automation: Can you build the behavioral triggers, branches, and follow-ups you need?
  • CRM: Do sales users need a full shared customer and deal workflow, or only marketing contact records?
  • Total cost: Compare quotes at your contact count, user-seat needs, billing cadence, and required add-ons.
  • Administration: Estimate the effort to configure, document, and maintain automations as your team and campaigns change.
  • Channels: Confirm whether email alone is enough or you need SMS, WhatsApp, or transactional email.
  • Integrations: Verify compatibility with the exact ecommerce and CRM tools already in use.

Is ActiveCampaign worth considering?

ActiveCampaign is worth evaluating when advanced segmentation and automation connected to CRM or ecommerce activity solve a real operational need. Its plan structure, tailored pricing, and trial caps make it important to test the workflows and integrations that matter to your business before committing. If you do not need that complexity, compare a simpler email platform; if CRM is the center of your wider go-to-market process, compare a CRM-first system as well.
