LF Energy Summit Europe 2026 was a two-day conference in Berlin on September 15–16, 2026. It brought together people working on energy systems and open-source technology to discuss shared digital infrastructure for grids and related services. What was LF Energy Summit Europe?
LF Energy Summit Europe is the annual gathering for a community developing open-source software, standards and data for the energy sector. The 2026 edition focused on how shared software and digital infrastructure can support energy-system work. LF Energy’s event description presents open source as a way for utilities and vendors to co-develop non-competitive building blocks for grid modernization; that is the organizer’s framing, not an independently measured outcome. It was a professional and technical conference, not a consumer energy expo. Its stated audience included utilities, grid operators, technology vendors, energy companies, policymakers, researchers and practitioners.
When and where was the 2026 summit?
The summit took place September 15–16, 2026, in Berlin, Germany. It is over as of October 4, 2026. The event schedule listed session times in Central European Summer Time (CEST) and warned that times and room locations could change; treat it as historical program information, not a current event listing. What did the program cover?
The agenda spanned several parts of the energy-technology stack, from grid modeling to devices and operational strategy. Project names in the announced program included Dynaωo, OpenSTEF, PowSyBl, SEAPATH, OpenGridFM, OperatorFabric, CoMPAS, EVerest, AINETUS and TROLIE. The agenda supports these as examples of topics and projects, not as a ranking or proof of comparative performance. See the announced agenda.
- Grid planning and operations: transmission simulation, forecasting and digital substations.
- Electrification and customer-side systems: EV charging firmware and home energy management.
- Trust and technology strategy: cybersecurity, digital sovereignty, AI and foundation models, and open-source strategy.
The announcement described an RTE researcher presentation analyzing the April 2025 Iberian blackout with Dynaωo. It also listed tutorials on Dynaωo, OpenSTEF, CoMPAS and the OpenGridFM/GENCO toolchain. These are descriptions of the announced program; they do not independently establish the analysis’s conclusions or confirm that each session occurred exactly as planned.

Who were the keynotes for?
The announced keynote themes were open source in action in the energy sector and digital sovereignty. The lineup represented LF Energy, Alliander, Sia, the European Commission, RTE and SUSE. The announcement identified Rolf Riemenschneider as the European Commission’s Head of Sector IoT and Nathalie Lemaître as Managing Director of RTE’s Customers, Systems and Innovation Division.
