There is no separate password manager with identical controls for every Google Workspace user. Google Password Manager is available in Chrome, Android, and at passwords.google.com, but an employer or school can manage settings for its Workspace accounts. The walkthrough below distinguishes the everyday Chrome and Android controls from passkey behavior that depends on your organization’s policy.

Where to find Google Password Manager

Google says, “You can view and manage your saved passwords and passkeys in Google Password Manager on Android, in Chrome, or at passwords.google.com.” The available entries depend on the account or device context, so check which account is selected before saving or reviewing credentials.

On desktop Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu).
  2. Choose Passwords and autofill, then Google Password Manager.

When Chrome is signed in, saved passwords are associated with that Google Account. You can also visit passwords.google.com.

On Android

Open the Password Manager interface on your device to manage saved passwords and passkeys. If more than one Google Account is on the device, Android may ask which account should receive a password when you save it.

Save passwords and use autofill

Google Password Manager can offer to save passwords and passkeys, generate and save strong unique passwords, and autofill credentials on websites and apps. In Google’s documented flow, Offer to save passwords and passkeys is on by default. You can switch it off or back on; a Workspace administrator may manage the setting for an enterprise account. Chrome may also remember that you chose not to save credentials for a particular site or app.

When Chrome offers to save a password, make sure the correct Google Account is selected. If you want a strong, unique password, use Chrome’s password-generation offer rather than reusing a password from another account.

Choose how much signing in happens automatically

Chrome desktop provides convenience controls for passkeys and sign-in. The documented setting Automatically create a passkey to sign in faster controls automatic passkey creation when you sign in to a site with a saved password. The Auto sign-in setting controls whether Chrome signs you in automatically with saved credentials.

If you prefer to review a sign-in before it proceeds, turn off automatic sign-in. These are the documented Chrome desktop labels; names or placement can differ in other Chrome versions, and an organization may manage some settings.

Review, edit, and remove saved credentials

In desktop Chrome, open More > Passwords and autofill > Google Password Manager, then select an entry to manage it. You can show, edit, or delete a saved password, add a note, and export saved passwords. Notes receive the same security protection as passwords. Chrome also offers an option to delete all Google Password Manager data.

Password Checkup reports credentials Google identifies as exposed in a breach or weak and easy to guess. Treat an exported password file as sensitive credential data: Chrome offers a download, but the information here does not establish what protections apply to the file after export. Keep it somewhere private and remove it when you no longer need it.

What Workspace users should know about passkeys

A passkey can be useful on a work or school account, but whether you can sign in with only a passkey depends on your organization’s settings. A Workspace account may not allow passwordless sign-in. Even when passkey-only sign-in is unavailable, passkeys may still work as a second factor for 2-Step Verification, a recovery option, or verification for certain sensitive actions.

Check your available sign-in options

Look for whether Skip password when possible is allowed for your account. If it is not available, ask your organization’s administrator whether policy disables it. The administrator can enable passwordless sign-in for eligible users and may optionally restrict passkeys to hardware security keys.

When an organization requires hardware security keys

A FIDO2-compatible hardware security key matters only if your organization uses or requires that kind of passkey policy; it is not a general requirement for Google Password Manager. A hardware-key-only restriction can make passkeys stored on other devices unusable. Administrators should confirm compatibility and enrollment for affected users before enforcing such a restriction. Exact Admin console paths and eligibility can vary, so consult current Workspace administrator guidance rather than assuming a universal setup path.

Security and account recovery

Google says Password Manager can suggest unique passwords, notify users about compromised saved passwords, and protect saved credentials with encryption. These safeguards help manage credentials, but they do not prevent every account takeover, phishing attempt, device compromise, or loss of access to a Google Account.

  • Use a unique password for each account. Google recommends a password of at least 12 characters; this is its guidance, not a universal technical or regulatory standard.
  • Keep recovery information current so you have a route back into your account if you lose access.
  • Turn on 2-Step Verification for an additional sign-in safeguard.
  • For a Workspace account, ask your employer or school’s administrator about controls you cannot change yourself.
