Teams Cross-Cloud Guest Access (CCGA) lets an organization invite someone from a different Microsoft 365 cloud into its tenant as a guest so they can collaborate in Teams. Microsoft announced general availability in Message Center notice MC672521, linked to Roadmap ID 145459, with standard release projected for late September 2023. It is an established capability, not a new 2026 rollout. Enabling it requires both organizations to configure cross-tenant access and Teams guest access; guest access alone does not establish cross-cloud trust.
What Teams Cross-Cloud Guest Access adds
CCGA is guest-based collaboration across Microsoft cloud environments. The external person is invited as a B2B guest in the resource organization and can use the host tenant’s Teams experience to collaborate in teams and channels, access files, chat, and participate in meetings. Microsoft’s overview describes the broader capability, but not every feature available within one tenant necessarily works across clouds. Check the current support guidance for the specific workload and action your users need.
Microsoft’s cross-cloud guest guide states: “B2B Member accounts aren’t supported for cross cloud guests.” For this scenario, invite the person as a B2B guest, not a B2B member.
What the general-availability notice said
Microsoft’s MC672521 notice, associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 145459, announced the feature and projected standard release for late September 2023. The notice described collaboration across tenants in different Microsoft clouds when cross-tenant access settings were in place and Teams guest access was enabled. It also advised organizations to review whether the compliance, identity-governance, and management controls they use for same-cloud B2B guests should be extended to cross-cloud guests.

The notice included client and Windows update minimums for its rollout period. Those historical figures are not a reliable statement of current platform requirements; consult Microsoft’s current guidance before deploying or troubleshooting clients.
Choose the right kind of external collaboration

Check cloud compatibility before configuring access
Microsoft groups the relevant environments this way: Azure Commercial includes Microsoft 365 Commercial and GCC; Azure Government includes GCC High and DoD; and Azure China includes China (21Vianet). Government tenants cannot establish this cross-tenant connection with China tenants. Confirm that the two organizations’ cloud environments are compatible before proceeding.
For organizations with restrictive firewalls, review the DNS names, IP addresses, and ports required for each cloud involved. Microsoft’s cross-cloud collaboration overview also cautions that cross-cloud feature availability is not automatically identical to same-tenant availability.

Configure cross-cloud guest access
Both organizations need to configure the relationship. Coordinate with the partner administrator so each side applies the intended inbound and outbound cross-tenant settings and enables Teams guest access. The Entra administrator will need the partner tenant ID; the Teams admin center can look up a tenant ID using the organization’s fully qualified domain name.
- Confirm Teams guest access is enabled. In the Teams admin center, go to Users → Guest access. Set the calling, meeting, and messaging capabilities appropriate for your organization, then save. Guest access also depends on Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 Groups, and SharePoint settings, so check those controls as well. Microsoft’s guest access overview and guest access configuration instructions describe these dependencies and controls.
- Enable the partner cloud. In the Microsoft Entra admin center, go to External Identities → Cross-tenant access settings → Microsoft cloud settings and enable the relevant external Microsoft cloud environment.
- Add the partner organization for B2B collaboration. In cross-tenant access settings, add the partner organization using its tenant ID, then configure the inbound and outbound B2B collaboration settings required for your intended access. The partner administrator must configure the relationship on their side too.
- Review governance and network controls. Extend applicable identity-governance, compliance, and management practices to cross-cloud guests. If either organization uses strict firewall rules, allow the documented endpoints for the clouds involved.
- Test with a guest account. Invite a test user as a B2B guest and verify the particular teams, channels, files, chat, or meeting workflows needed. Do not assume that successful sign-in means every cross-cloud Teams feature is available.
Microsoft’s detailed guide to collaborating with guests from other Microsoft 365 clouds is the reference for cloud compatibility and Entra configuration. Admin-center labels can change, so use the current instructions if a path differs in your tenant.

Feature-specific limitations to verify
Cross-cloud guest access does not promise feature parity with collaboration inside a single tenant. Microsoft’s cross-cloud overview identifies collaboration-specific limitations, including that attaching files to one-to-one or group chats is not supported in the described CCGA flow. It also reports, as of 2026 Q2, that external member users are unsupported. Because these details can change, verify the current Microsoft support guidance for the exact user type and feature before relying on them.
Guest access is also subject to Microsoft 365 service limits. Review the current guest-access documentation alongside your organization’s capacity, sharing, and governance requirements before broad deployment.
