Microsoft Edge Canary did have a reported “Followable Web” experiment that let some users follow websites from the address bar and see updates in Collections. That report describes a limited rollout in 2021—not a feature confirmed to be available in current Canary or Stable builds. If you cannot find Follow in your Edge browser, don’t rely on old flag instructions; consider an RSS-reader extension instead.
How Edge Canary’s reported Follow feature worked
In a report first published on December 27, 2021 and updated September 4, 2024, Petri described a Chromium-based Edge feature called “Followable Web.” For selected Canary Insiders, a Follow button appeared in the address bar on supported websites. Users could then see recent content from followed sites in the Collections flyout. Petri’s report characterized the feature as a way to keep up with websites without relying on a separate RSS service.
It was not available to every Canary user at the time. Petri reported a gradual, controlled rollout and said the option was missing from its own Canary test devices. A January 2022 tutorial also described it as an early feature limited to selected Insiders. That tutorial showed a Following section in Collections and an experimental edge-followable-web flag, but those are historical details, not dependable instructions for today’s browser.
Was it the same as Legacy Edge’s RSS feature?
Petri reported that Legacy Edge also supported RSS tracking. The available reporting establishes a similar user-facing idea—following sites and keeping up with their updates—but does not show that the older feature and the Chromium-era Canary experiment used the same technology or behaved identically.

Where did the Follow option go?
The historical rollout reports do not establish whether Followable Web is available in current Edge Canary or Stable. There is no current Microsoft documentation in the sources confirming its status, so an old flag name or Collections menu path cannot verify availability in a present-day build. If Follow is absent from your browser, the reports do not provide a current setting you can enable to restore it.
RSS-reader extensions as an alternative
Microsoft Edge Add-ons currently lists RSS-reader extensions, including Inoreader and Feeder, as well as tools for finding feed URLs. The Edge Add-ons RSS catalog establishes that these listings were available when accessed; it is not an independent assessment of quality or a guarantee of compatibility with every Edge build.

The Inoreader listing describes RSS detection and following, feed previews, and reading and organization features, along with Free and Pro plans. Those are claims in the vendor’s catalog listing, not an independent comparison. Before installing any extension, check its current compatibility, permissions, and features on its listing page. If you need subscriptions or reading to sync across devices, confirm that the specific extension or service supports that workflow.

Choose a practical next step
- Want a built-in Edge option? Check your exact channel and build for Follow or a related Collections feature. Its absence is consistent with the historical reports and does not mean an old flag will work now.
- Need to follow RSS feeds today? Browse the current Edge Add-ons catalog and check an extension’s listing for compatibility, permissions, and the features you need.
- Want more than website feeds? Compare the available reader’s discovery, organization, and cross-device options rather than assuming Edge’s historical experiment included them.
