As of October 4, 2026, Apple still lists the iPhone 12 as compatible with iOS 26, and Apple has not announced when it will stop providing updates for the model. So the iPhone 12 is supported now, but its final iOS or security-update date is unknown. Any specific cutoff year would be a prediction, not an Apple-announced deadline.
How long will Apple support the iPhone 12?
There is no published end date. Apple’s iOS 26 compatibility guide and iOS 26 download page both include iPhone 12. On the phone, check Settings > General > Software Update to see which compatible update is offered to your device.

Apple does not publish a fixed number of years after which an iPhone loses major iOS updates. Counting forward from the iPhone 12’s launch—or from when Apple stopped selling it—would therefore produce a guess, not a confirmed support deadline.
Will the iPhone 12 still get security updates?
Apple’s security-release history lists iOS 18.7.8 for all iPhone 12 models, released April 22, 2026. That confirms the model received that security update; it does not say how long future patches will continue. Apple also says it strives to provide critical security updates after a product can no longer run the newest operating system.

- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a charging cable that may be generic.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
In its June 2024 report, Longevity by Design, Apple cited a March 2024 iOS 15 update that reached iPhone 6s, a model introduced in 2015. That is a historical example of updates reaching older devices, not a schedule or promise for iPhone 12.
Apple’s security guidance puts the practical advice plainly: “Keeping your software up to date is the single most important thing you can do to maintain the security of your Apple products.” See Update iOS to protect your iPhone from web attacks.

When will Apple stop updating the iPhone 12?
Apple has not announced a final date for major iOS updates or security patches for iPhone 12. Major-version compatibility and security maintenance are separate: a model may stop receiving the newest iOS version yet still receive some security updates. Apple’s stated approach does not guarantee that every older iPhone will receive patches for a particular length of time.
Does “vintage” mean an iPhone 12 is unsupported?
No. Apple’s vintage and obsolete labels concern hardware service, not iOS eligibility. Apple classifies a product as vintage when it stopped distributing it more than five but less than seven years ago. It classifies a product as obsolete more than seven years after distribution stopped; Apple then discontinues hardware service and parts ordering. These periods run from the end of distribution, not the phone’s launch date. Apple’s policy does not establish the iPhone 12’s individual classification date, and neither label sets its software-update cutoff. See Apple’s service information for products after warranty expiration.

Is it worth replacing the iPhone 12 battery?
If the phone still meets your needs and battery life is the main problem, a battery replacement may be a practical way to keep using it. Apple describes its authorized repair network and product-support approach in Longevity by Design. A repair can address the battery or another hardware issue; it cannot extend Apple’s software-support commitment or guarantee future updates.
Before deciding, consider the phone’s current iOS compatibility, whether security updates are reaching it, its battery and repair condition, the features you need, and how comfortable you are keeping a device with an unknown future cutoff. If you are considering a third-party replacement kit, verify its exact compatibility, quality, and seller independently; Apple’s support information does not validate particular kits.
