To build a gaming PC on a budget, decide your total spending limit, the games you want to play, and your monitor’s resolution and frame-rate target before choosing parts. Then assemble a balanced, compatible system around those needs and price the complete cart—including tax, shipping, and any peripherals—before ordering.

Set the budget around the games and display you actually use

Start by writing down three things: your maximum spend, the games you care about, and the resolution and frame rate you want from your monitor. A build aimed at 1080p gaming may call for different spending priorities than one aimed at 1440p. Newegg’s June 2026 build guides use those targets to frame their component examples, but their performance guidance is retailer editorial advice, not an independently verified benchmark in the sources cited here.

Include the full setup in your ceiling. If you still need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system, or additional storage, reserve money for it before setting the parts budget. Recheck local prices, shipping, and tax immediately before purchase; retailer estimates can change, and Newegg specifically noted that GPU prices fluctuate weekly in its June 26, 2026 guide.

Choose a platform, then match the motherboard and memory

Choose the processor platform first because it constrains the motherboard socket and memory generation. Compare the cost of the CPU, motherboard, and RAM together rather than choosing a processor by its price alone. Newegg’s June 2026 guide presents AM5 with DDR5 and Intel LGA1700 with DDR5 as options, and characterizes the AMD route as offering a longer upgrade path. Treat that as Newegg’s assessment, not a guarantee about future processor compatibility.

Before buying, check the exact motherboard’s CPU support list and BIOS requirements. Confirm that the RAM generation matches the board, and consult its specifications and memory support information for the exact kit. Compatibility filters can narrow choices, but they do not replace the manufacturer’s documentation for a particular model.

How much RAM do you need?

Newegg recommends 32GB DDR5 in its 2026 example builds; its builder guide describes 16GB as a gaming minimum and 32GB as its recommendation for streaming or editing. Those are retailer recommendations, not a universal requirement for every game. Choose capacity based on your games, other applications, and budget, and make sure the selected kit matches the board.

Prioritize the graphics card for your target

Compare graphics cards against the resolution, frame rate, and games you named at the start. The GPU is a major part of whether the system suits that target, but paying for capability your monitor and games will not use is one way to overspend. Check current prices and the exact card’s dimensions and power requirements; a product-family name alone does not establish fit or compatibility.

Newegg’s June 12, 2026 list used an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RX 9060 XT at about $400. Its June 26 guide listed an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at $429.99–$599.99 and warned that GPU prices change weekly. These are retailer figures from June 2026, not current quotes or independent value or performance findings. Use them as dated examples only, and compare actual local offers when building your cart.

Budget for the rest of the system, not just headline parts

A working build needs a compatible CPU, motherboard, memory, GPU, storage, power supply, and case. You may also need a CPU cooler, case fans, or other accessories. Make sure the complete system fits the spending ceiling rather than leaving too little for a suitable PSU or a case that fits the components.

Use dated example lists as planning references

Newegg’s June 12, 2026 guide gave the following approximate prices and a total of about $1,095. They are Newegg’s dated estimates, not current offers or a tested recommendation.

The June 26, 2026 Newegg guide instead estimated a complete system at $1,200–$1,500, with prices verified by the retailer in June 2026. Its component examples included an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at $429.99–$599.99; a Ryzen 7 9700X at $289.99–$299.99 or Core i5-14400F at around $179.99; 32GB DDR5 at $109.99–$149.99; a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD at $79.99–$99.99; and a 650W 80+ Gold PSU at $59.99–$89.99. The GPU range is especially subject to change. Neither list establishes what the same parts cost now or what they will cost in your region.

Keep storage, cooling, and appearance practical

Both Newegg lists use a 1TB NVMe SSD as an example. Whether that is enough depends on the size of your game library; if you expect to add storage, account for the cost and confirm the motherboard has an available compatible M.2 slot or another suitable connection.

A premium cooler, feature-rich motherboard, or RGB lighting is worth paying for only if it addresses a real need. Check whether the chosen CPU includes a cooler, whether that cooler is adequate for your intended use, and whether any separately purchased cooler fits the case and supports the CPU socket. An airflow-oriented case and its included fans can also affect whether you need extra cooling hardware.

Run a compatibility check before ordering

Verify every item against the exact component model and manufacturer documentation. The named AMD and NVIDIA product-family pages are useful references, but final checks belong to the specific CPU, board, graphics card, case, PSU, and cooler you plan to buy.

  • CPU: confirm the motherboard socket, CPU support list, and any required BIOS version.
  • Memory: match the board’s supported memory generation and check its specifications or qualified vendor list for the kit.
  • Graphics card: confirm its length and thickness fit the case, and check the card’s power requirements and connectors.
  • Power supply: verify capacity, required connectors, and the GPU maker’s stated power requirements.
  • Storage: confirm the drive interface, M.2 slot availability, and whether another installed drive shares a slot or connection, if the manuals specify such limits.
  • Cooler: check socket mounting support, cooler height, and clearance around the case and memory.
  • Case and board: match motherboard form factor to the case and check component clearance.
  • Extras: check whether the case includes enough fans and identify any cables or accessories the parts do not include.

Assemble the PC and verify it starts

Use the motherboard manual as the authority for RAM slots, M.2 installation, headers, and front-panel wiring. Newegg’s general build walkthrough identifies a Phillips #2 screwdriver as the main tool for most builds; a static-safe work surface and good lighting are also useful. Follow the instructions supplied with each part where they apply.

  1. On a clear, static-safe surface, install the CPU, RAM, and SSD on the motherboard before fitting the board in the case, following the board manual.
  2. Mount the motherboard and power supply in the case. Connect the motherboard and CPU power cables required by the exact models.
  3. Install the graphics card and connect its required power cables. Attach the case fans and front-panel connectors as shown in the case and motherboard instructions.
  4. Power on and enter BIOS or UEFI. Check that the processor, memory, and storage are detected. Enable a supported memory profile only if you want to and the board offers it.
  5. Install the operating system, then install the motherboard chipset drivers and graphics drivers from the appropriate manufacturers.

If the system does not start or a component is missing from BIOS, turn it off and recheck its seating, power connections, and the manual’s installation instructions before changing settings or replacing parts. For CPU support or memory issues, consult the exact board’s support information, including any BIOS requirements.

Make the final decision from the complete cart

Price the exact compatible parts together and include tax, shipping, and any remaining peripherals. Compare platform totals and GPU options against your actual gaming target, not a retailer’s dated example or a headline price. If the total is over budget, remove features you do not need or reconsider the target before compromising on compatibility or leaving out a necessary component.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
