You generally cannot check a loose used CPU for an existing anti-cheat ban before buying it. The official Call of Duty procedure described by Activision checks a complete device running a crossplay Call of Duty title—not a processor by itself—and the reviewed guidance does not provide a universal CPU or serial-number lookup. If you are buying a whole PC, you may be able to check it in the specific game you care about, but that result is limited to that publisher and is not a guarantee about other games.
Why a CPU cannot be cleared on its own
Anti-cheat policies commonly describe enforcement against an account, a device, or hardware. Those terms are not interchangeable. Activision says, “Hardware bans apply to the device and not the account.” Its policy does not establish that a particular CPU is independently identified, which components are tracked, or whether changing a component clears a device ban.
Neither a seller’s assurance nor a receipt is a platform status result. The reviewed official guidance does not describe a way for a buyer to submit a processor serial number and check its ban history. That is a limit of the documented guidance, not proof that no game-specific or private process could ever exist.

What checks are documented by platform
| Platform | What the documented process checks | When and what it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Activision / Call of Duty | Hardware-ban status for a device running a crossplay Call of Duty title, signed in with an account in good standing. | Activision says a notification appears if the hardware is banned. This requires the device and game; it is not a loose-CPU check or a universal anti-cheat check. Hardware bans are not eligible for appeal. |
| FACEIT | FACEIT’s support guidance addresses its own cheating bans and review requests. | Playing on hardware that previously received a FACEIT ban is not a valid reason to have a cheating ban lifted. A player who believes their own ban was mistaken can submit a support ticket; this is not a pre-purchase component lookup. |
| EA | Penalty History for the signed-in EA account. | The account holder can view active warnings or suspensions across EA games and appeal a listed violation. The documented tool is not a CPU or hardware-status lookup. |
| Riot Vanguard | Anti-cheat operation and device-security requirements. | The reviewed Vanguard guidance does not document a pre-purchase check for an individual CPU’s ban status. Security configuration checks should not be mistaken for a ban-status result. |
How to reduce risk when buying a complete PC
- Ask what games and platforms the system was used with. Request an honest answer from the seller; it is context, not proof that the device is clear.
- Ask for a demonstration in the specific game you intend to play. For Call of Duty, Activision’s stated device check is to sign in with an account in good standing and launch a crossplay Call of Duty title on that device. If the hardware is banned, the game displays a status notification. You cannot perform this check on a loose CPU.
- Check the relevant publisher’s current official guidance. Each publisher’s account, device, and appeal processes have their own scope. A result in one game does not clear a system for another anti-cheat service.
- Keep purchase and system details. If a platform later flags the system, contact its official support channel and provide truthful information. Secondhand purchase evidence does not guarantee that a ban will be reversed.
What not to rely on
- “The CPU is clean.” There is no documented universal CPU clearance service in the reviewed policies, and the policies do not establish that CPU alone is the enforcement target.
- An account-status page as a hardware check. EA’s Penalty History, for example, concerns the signed-in account’s penalties; it does not certify a PC or processor.
- HWID checker, spoofing, or ban-bypass utilities. The reviewed official material does not endorse these as verification tools. Do not use them as a shortcut or attempt to evade enforcement.
- A successful test as permanent assurance. A demonstration only shows the observed access and status at that time for that account, title, and device. It cannot guarantee future status or establish clearance across other games.
