No. You can use a Fire TV Stick 4K and supported streaming apps without an Amazon Prime membership. Prime is only needed for titles marked as included with Prime; other viewing options may be free with ads, require a separate subscription, or charge you to rent or buy a title.
What Prime membership does—and does not—unlock
The Fire TV Stick 4K is a streaming device and app platform. An Amazon Prime membership is not a general requirement for using that platform or opening supported apps. Membership matters when you want to watch titles that Amazon identifies as included with Prime. How you can watch without Prime

When Prime Video content costs extra
Prime Video includes several different payment paths. A title may be included with an applicable Prime Video membership, or it may be available to rent, buy, or watch through an add-on subscription or pay-per-view option. Does 4K streaming require Prime?
Amazon’s 4K guidance lists technical requirements rather than Prime membership: a connection of at least 15 Mbps, a compatible Ultra HD television, an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2, and compatible equipment throughout the home-theater chain. - Open the title’s details in Prime Video or the streaming app you plan to use.
- Look for wording that says the title is included with Prime, free with ads, or available through a subscription.
- If the screen shows a rental, purchase, channel, or subscription price, that cost is separate from owning the Fire TV Stick and may be separate from Prime.
- Check the app’s terms and local availability if the title or service does not appear in your region.
