There is no single best picture or audio preset for every Fire TV Stick 4K. The right choices depend on the exact Stick generation, TV, HDMI connection, any receiver or soundbar in the path, and the app, title, and streaming plan. Start by checking what your connected equipment supports; change a setting only to address a specific problem.

Start by checking your model and connected equipment

Fire TV Stick 4K is a product family, and menu labels and features can vary by generation and software. Identify the model you own before following model-specific advice. Also note whether the Stick connects directly to the TV or passes through a soundbar or AV receiver: each device in that HDMI chain can affect which picture and audio formats are available.

For example, the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) specification lists 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Those are capabilities of that Stick, not a promise that every TV input, intermediate device, app, streaming plan, or program supports or delivers them. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) specifications also list Dolby Atmos (EC3_JOC), subject to compatible equipment and select Prime Video and Disney+ titles.

Use Audio/Video Diagnostics if your model offers it

On supported devices, open Settings → Display & Sounds → Audio/Video Diagnostics. Amazon says the tool checks connected HDMI devices—including a TV, soundbar, or AV receiver—for maximum resolution and refresh rate, HDR and Dolby Vision support, and supported surround-sound standards. The tool is not available on every Fire TV device. Amazon’s Audio/Video Diagnostics guidance explains its scope and availability.

If 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision is missing

Check the whole signal path rather than changing resolution at random. Confirm that the TV and every receiver or soundbar between it and the Stick support the format, and that the selected TV HDMI input and its picture/input settings permit it. Follow the TV manufacturer’s directions for that input. Then verify that the app, program, and streaming plan provide the format; a capable Stick cannot add 4K or HDR to content that is not offered that way.

If diagnostics are available, use them to see what the connected equipment reports. If a receiver or soundbar is in the path, check its HDMI passthrough support for the desired video format as well as the TV’s capability. Amazon’s HDMI capability and troubleshooting guidance covers these checks.

Change resolution manually only for a specific compatibility case

Amazon documents a particular mode-negotiation issue: a Fire TV device may stream at 1080p 60 Hz for smoother playback when connected to a 4K 30 Hz Dolby Vision TV. For that scenario, Amazon says to set the resolution to 4K 60 Hz. This is targeted advice for the described combination, not a universal setting for all TVs or Fire TV Stick 4K models. See Amazon’s resolution guidance and its 4K troubleshooting information.

Which audio settings should you change?

Match the setup to the equipment that plays sound

First establish whether audio comes from the TV speakers, a soundbar, or an AV receiver, and whether the Stick connects directly to the TV or through that equipment. If Audio/Video Diagnostics is available, check which surround standards the HDMI chain reports. Choose or retain an output that the connected equipment accepts; there is no universally correct output mode for every setup.

Be careful with instructions for other Fire TV products. Amazon’s page describing PCM, Dolby Digital, Passthrough, and Auto is specifically about Fire TV televisions, so it does not establish that those controls appear on every Fire TV Stick 4K generation. Likewise, that page’s AC4 Dialog Enhancer is not the same feature as Dialogue Boost. Amazon’s Fire TV Smart TV audio settings page is scoped to those televisions.

For difficult-to-hear speech, look for Dialogue Boost

Dialogue Boost is an accessibility option that can make dialogue easier to hear where supported. Amazon says it can also be managed in Fire TV Display & Sounds settings, but availability depends on the device and content; do not assume the feature or a particular menu path is present on every Stick. See Amazon’s Fire TV accessibility information.

Investigate audio delay across the connection

If sound seems out of sync, the cause may involve Bluetooth, the HDMI connection, or receiver settings. The documented Fire TV Smart TV Bluetooth audio-sync controls should not be treated as a universal Fire TV Stick menu path. Check the settings and connection guidance for the specific TV, soundbar, receiver, or Bluetooth device in use, and consult the Stick’s available options for its model and software.

Choose the next check by symptom

What you notice What to check first When to change a setting
Picture is not 4K Stick model, TV and HDMI input, devices in the HDMI path, app/title, and streaming plan; use Audio/Video Diagnostics if available. Only select a different resolution when a documented issue applies, such as Amazon’s specific 4K 30 Hz Dolby Vision TV case.
HDR or Dolby Vision is unavailable Whether the TV, selected input, and every receiver or soundbar support and pass through the format, and whether the title offers it. Adjust the relevant TV/input or device setting according to its manufacturer’s instructions; the Stick’s format support alone does not establish end-to-end support.
Surround sound or Atmos is unavailable Which device plays sound, diagnostics-reported surround support, equipment compatibility, and whether the specific title and service offer the format. Change output only to a format the connected chain accepts; Atmos on the 2nd Gen Stick is conditional on compatible equipment and select titles.
Dialogue is hard to hear Whether Dialogue Boost is available for the device and content. Enable Dialogue Boost where supported; do not confuse it with the separate AC4 Dialog Enhancer documented for Fire TV televisions.
Audio seems delayed Bluetooth, HDMI, and receiver or soundbar settings in the actual setup. Use model-specific guidance rather than assuming a universal Stick sync menu.
