Choose an enclosure by modeling the exact driver’s Thiele–Small (T/S) parameters against your desired bass response and available cabinet space—not by driver diameter alone. Use the calculations below to screen sealed-box options, then compare sealed and vented designs with a model that accounts for the driver and practical constraints before building.
Start with the exact driver’s T/S data
T/S parameters describe a driver’s low-frequency behavior and provide the inputs used to estimate how it will work in an enclosure. Find the specifications for the exact driver model you plan to use; values and recommendations for one model should not be transferred to another. Kicker describes using measured and calculated or verified T/S data for enclosure design in its manufacturer documentation.
Check the parameter definitions and units in the driver’s own documentation. The main values used in a basic sealed-box calculation are:

- Fs: the driver’s free-air resonance frequency.
- Qts: the driver’s total Q. It can help screen possible alignments, but it does not determine a complete design by itself.
- Vas: the equivalent compliance volume, which contributes directly to the estimated sealed-box volume.
- Qtc: the target total Q of the driver-and-box system in a sealed enclosure. This is a design choice, not the driver’s Qts.
