Apple’s active-device base is larger than the headline’s 2.2 billion: the company reported more than 2.5 billion active devices in January 2026. The separate claim that Apple has more than 1 billion subscribers across all its services is not confirmed by the official results releases reviewed, and Apple’s announcements do not define such a combined subscriber count.
What Apple reported about its active devices
Apple announced that its installed base of active devices had surpassed 2.2 billion on February 1, 2024. That announcement covered the company’s fiscal first quarter, which ended December 30, 2023, and Apple said the figure spanned all products and geographic segments. It was a milestone at the time, not a current figure. Apple’s February 2024 results release described the total as an all-time high.
On January 29, 2026, Apple reported that its installed base had grown to more than 2.5 billion active devices. The figure was announced with results for the fiscal first quarter ended December 27, 2025. Apple’s January 2026 results release did not provide a more exact total.
Apple’s July 2026 third-quarter results release said the active-device installed base had reached another all-time high, but did not state a new count. It therefore supports the continued-high milestone, not a specific figure beyond the previously reported 2.5 billion. The July 2026 release, furnished as an SEC exhibit, reported quarterly revenue of $109.4 billion and Services revenue of $30.739 billion; neither number is an active-device count.

These are company-reported installed-base figures, not a count of people. One person may use multiple Apple devices, and the releases do not provide a conversion from devices to owners or users. The word “active” is Apple’s metric; the releases do not give a detailed public definition that would justify treating it as a count of unique customers.
Does Apple have more than 1 billion service subscribers?
The more-than-1-billion subscriber claim is not substantiated by the official results releases cited here. Those releases describe Apple’s services and report financial performance, but do not state a combined total of more than 1 billion subscribers across all services or define whether that would count people, accounts, paid subscriptions, or another measure.

Apple reported 14 percent year-over-year Services revenue growth alongside $143.8 billion in quarterly revenue in its January 2026 results. Those figures describe revenue and growth, not the number of service subscribers. Revenue cannot establish a subscriber total, and the active-device installed base is a different metric.

Apple’s results releases name services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay, iCloud and, in the later description, Apple TV. The releases also describe the software platforms across Apple’s ecosystem: the 2024 announcement listed five platforms, while the 2026 description named iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS and tvOS. This illustrates the breadth of the ecosystem, but it does not establish how many subscribers any one service—or all services combined—have.
