Start with the tool’s exact model number and voltage or battery-system marking. If it is identified as an 18V ONE+ tool, RYOBI says its 18V ONE+ batteries are compatible across that platform. For any other system—or if the label or manual is unclear—verify the exact model before choosing a battery; the Ryobi name or a similar-looking connector is not enough.
Identify the tool’s exact battery system
- Read the nameplate. Find the full model number and any voltage or system marking on the tool. Record both; do not rely on its age, appearance, or brand alone.
- Find the model’s official documentation. Search RYOBI’s product support for the exact model and review its manual, especially the battery and charger instructions.
- Check the battery’s official system designation. Compare the system named in the tool documentation with the one on the battery’s RYOBI product page. RYOBI’s current 18V ONE+ battery product page says an 18V ONE+ battery is compatible with any RYOBI 18V ONE+ product. That is a platform-specific statement, not a promise about every Ryobi tool or battery.
- Resolve uncertainty before buying or fitting a battery. If the tool marking names another system, the model cannot be identified, or the documentation conflicts, contact RYOBI support with the exact tool and battery models. RYOBI’s battery support page explains how to get help and advises having the battery, a compatible tool, and charger available.
What RYOBI’s ONE+ history does—and does not—establish
RYOBI says its 18V ONE+ platform launched in 1996. The company also says lithium-ion batteries joined ONE+ in 2007 while remaining compatible with the platform. These dates support continuity within ONE+, but they do not identify an unknown vintage tool as a ONE+ model. The individual model’s marking and manual remain the relevant checks.
Do not infer a match from “18V” alone
The strongest match is an exact tool model whose official manual identifies it as 18V ONE+, paired with a battery explicitly designated for RYOBI 18V ONE+. A bare “18V” marking, battery capacity, connector resemblance, or the Ryobi name by itself does not establish that match. Check the manual’s battery and charger instructions as well as the battery’s system designation.

If you cannot verify the model
- Do not force a battery into the tool or treat a physical fit as proof of electrical compatibility.
- Use the nameplate model number to locate the official manual and support information.
- If the model is unreadable or its battery system remains ambiguous, ask RYOBI support to confirm the tool and battery combination before use.
