Maingear’s 2023 MG-1 build paired AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X3D with an XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX. HotHardware’s report documents the components, assembly details and benchmark results for that specific machine; it is a historical build account, not a promise of today’s MG-1 configuration or performance.
The parts in HotHardware’s MG-1 build
The April 13, 2023 report lists these components in the tested system:
| Component | Model |
|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D |
| Motherboard | Gigabyte AORUS X670E MASTER E-ATX |
| Graphics card | XFX Speedster MERC310 Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB |
| Memory | G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Series (AMD EXPO), 64GB (2 × 32GB) DDR5-6000 |
| Storage | Solidigm P44 Pro 2TB PCIe SSD |

| CPU cooling | Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror closed-loop AIO |
| Case | Maingear MG-1 Shroud Edition mid-tower ATX |
This is a component record for the machine HotHardware assembled and tested, not confirmation that Maingear currently sells this exact configuration or that every listed part remains available.
How the build was put together
HotHardware characterized the MG-1 as using standard, off-the-shelf parts and standard form factors rather than proprietary components. That matters for owners considering repairs or upgrades: the report describes a build based on commonly replaceable PC components, not a locked-down system. Compatibility still depends on the specific replacement parts and case, motherboard, cooling and power requirements.

What the 2023 benchmark results show
HotHardware reported strong results in productivity, rendering, synthetic graphics and games against the systems included in its 2023 comparison. In Blender, the MG-1 led that comparison set in all three rendering tests; it placed second overall in 3DMark Time Spy. Those rankings are limited to the article’s hardware and test conditions, not a current ranking of gaming PCs.

The report’s named game result was an average of 143 frames per second in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker at 4K UHD with maximum image quality. That figure belongs to the specific 7950X3D/RX 7900 XTX system and the review’s test setup. It should not be treated as a prediction for a different machine, game area, settings, software version or test methodology.
The article also discusses Cinebench, PCMark 10, 3DMark Port Royal, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and F1 22 in qualitative terms. It does not support adding exact scores for those tests or extrapolating performance beyond the configurations it compared.

What the report can—and cannot—tell a buyer
The build is a useful example of how Maingear assembled a high-end all-AMD desktop around a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XTX. It can help someone research a similar parts list or understand the MG-1’s standard-component approach. It does not establish current prices, inventory, a present-day MG-1 configuration, or a comparative ranking against systems now on sale.
HotHardware’s authors, David Altavilla and Paul Lilly, summed up their tested system this way: “Our custom MG-1 build based on AMD’s Zen 4 and RDNA 3 hardware performed as we expected and even better in some cases, with high scores pretty much across the board.” That is the authors’ assessment of their 2023 tests, rather than a general performance guarantee.

For a current build comparison, check the exact CPU and GPU, memory capacity and speed, storage, cooling, power supply and case compatibility. Then compare performance in the games or applications you actually use; results from this single 2023 system cannot settle how newer or differently configured PCs will perform.
