Apple has announced plans to begin making Mac mini computers at a new factory in Houston, Texas, later in 2026. Apple calls it the first U.S. production of the Mac mini. As of October 4, 2026, Apple’s latest cited update still described manufacturing as a future start; the available announcements do not confirm that production has begun.
What Apple announced
On February 24, 2026, Apple announced an expansion of its Houston factory operations that includes a new factory for Mac mini production. The company said the line would begin operating later in 2026 and described it as the first time Mac mini would be produced in the United States. Apple’s announcement did not give a production target or say what share of Mac mini output would come from Houston.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston with the production of Mac mini starting later this year.” The future-tense wording remains important: an announcement of planned production is not confirmation that the line is already making computers.
Has Mac mini production started in Houston?
Apple’s August 13, 2026 update announced the opening of its 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, but still said Mac mini manufacturing would begin later in the year. Cook also described Mac mini production as a future start at the center’s opening. Apple’s August update therefore confirms the center opened, not that Mac mini production began.

Apple announced new Mac mini models in September and made them available to customers. That product announcement does not identify where the computers were manufactured, so availability alone does not establish that the Houston line had started. Apple’s September product announcement provides no factory-origin confirmation. As of October 4, 2026, the start of Houston Mac mini production is unconfirmed by these announcements.
What the Houston expansion includes
The Mac mini factory is part of a broader Houston manufacturing footprint. Apple says the same Houston facility builds and ships advanced AI servers, and it announced expanded advanced AI server manufacturing there alongside the Mac mini plan. The planned Mac mini factory was described as doubling the Houston campus footprint.

Apple also cited wider U.S. supply-chain activity in its February announcement: it said it had sourced more than 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states, and said GlobalWafers had begun production at a new $4 billion bare-silicon-wafer facility in Sherman, Texas. These are Apple-reported milestones; they do not establish how many U.S.-made components a Mac mini contains or how much Mac mini output Houston will produce.

Apple’s official announcement establishes a planned first U.S. Mac mini production line, but it does not specify the portion of production assigned to Houston or identify the countries or factories from which any production may shift. It also does not provide a Mac mini output target. Headlines that say Apple is shifting production from Asia go beyond what Apple’s announcement itself confirms.

The announcement is a meaningful addition to Apple’s U.S. manufacturing plans, but it should not be read as evidence that all Mac mini production is moving to Texas, that a particular share will be made there, or that the computers will be wholly U.S.-made. The cited Apple statements provide no such allocation or product-origin detail.
