No—a full racing cockpit is optional for a PS5 wheel. Depending on the exact wheel, you may be able to clamp it to a desk, mount it on a foldable wheel stand, or bolt it to a dedicated rig. The right choice depends on the wheel’s mounting instructions, your available space, and whether your preferred games support that wheel.
Compare the three setups

These are documented features and practical selection checks, not stability tests or a universal ranking. The cited documentation does not establish that every stand is more stable than every desk, or that a cockpit improves lap times.
Can you use a PS5 wheel on a desk?
At least some wheels are designed for desk mounting. Logitech’s G923, for example, has a built-in clamp for a table or desk. Logitech says to use the clamp extenders for thinner tables and remove them for thicker desks. The cited instructions do not give a universal desk-thickness or strength threshold, so check the manual for your exact wheel and confirm that the desk edge fits securely.
A desk setup makes sense when you have a suitable edge, enough room for your legs and pedals, and want to avoid dedicating floor space to a rig. Consider how easily you can attach and remove the wheel, too. Do not assume another model uses the same clamp or has the same fit requirements.

When is a wheel stand enough?
A wheel stand is a middle option between clamping to existing furniture and installing a full cockpit. The documented OPLITE Wheel Stand GT PRO V2 provides adjustable wheel and pedal positions and folds for storage. Its documentation lists G923 and T300/T300RS family equipment among compatible products. It also describes a gearbox mount that can be fitted on either side.
That makes a stand worth considering if you want dedicated support for the wheel and pedals but need to put the setup away. Confirm compatibility for your specific wheelbase and pedal set rather than relying on a brand name alone; model variants and revisions may differ. Check the stand’s footprint and whether your chair can be positioned and secured as intended.

When does a full cockpit make sense?
Choose a cockpit or rig if you want a more dedicated arrangement with fixed wheel and pedal mounting and a cockpit-style seat. Logitech documents bolt mounting for the G923, but that does not establish that every cockpit fits every wheel. Before buying, verify the mounting-hole pattern and required fasteners, the exact wheel and pedal compatibility, whether the seat is included, and how much floor space the complete setup needs.
For the G923 specifically, Logitech’s documented rig installation calls for two M6X1 screws for the wheel and six M6X1 screws for the pedal unit. Follow the instructions for your wheel and rig; do not treat those fasteners as a universal requirement for other models.

Check PS5 and game compatibility separately
A mounting fit does not guarantee that a wheel works in every PS5 game. Logitech says the G923 works with games that support Logitech force-feedback wheels. Logitech’s G923 specifications.
Thrustmaster’s T300RS GT Edition product page lists PS5 support and specific compatible PS5 games; it also notes compatibility with PS4 games listed on that page. Before buying, confirm support for the exact wheel model and the specific game you plan to play. Platform compatibility and game-level support are separate checks.

- Choose a desk clamp if your wheel supports it, your desk edge fits its instructions, and you have sufficient legroom.
- Choose a foldable stand if you want dedicated wheel and pedal support but need a setup that can be stored between sessions.
- Choose a cockpit or rig if you want fixed mounting and a dedicated seat, and have checked fit, hardware, and floor space.
The G923, T300RS GT Edition, and OPLITE GT PRO V2 are documented examples, not a complete list or a universal recommendation. Check the current compatibility information for your exact regional model before purchase.
