Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. That means adding delivery, installation, required parts or permits, haul-away, and any other service charges to the item price. A low shelf price—or a “free installation” offer—does not by itself show which seller will cost less overall.
Build an apples-to-apples comparison
Start with the appliance’s exact model number, finish, configuration, and included accessories. Similar-looking appliances may not be the same model, and service eligibility can depend on the specific item. For each retailer, record the item price and the charges or services needed for your setup.

Use the final checkout total for your address where possible. Retailer pages describe offers and terms, not a guaranteed price or service outcome for every appliance and location.
What major retailers say their services include
The examples below are U.S. retailer-published terms, not independent comparisons of service quality. Check the specific product and address before ordering because eligibility and scope can vary.

Best Buy
Best Buy promotes price matching and free basic installation on qualifying appliances, but its service disclosures specify which installations qualify and identify separately charged parts, accessories, or permits. Its stated free refrigerator installation excludes a new waterline. Haul-away has separate terms and is offered for a fee with qualifying replacement purchases. Best Buy also states a 90-day workmanship warranty on appliance services; that is not a 90-day appliance return period. See Best Buy appliance services and its returns and exchanges policy.
Costco
Costco’s Appliance Advantage describes delivery and basic hookup for most members, basic parts, and one-for-one haul-away and recycling, subject to stated limitations. Costco also says it extends the manufacturer’s warranty to two years on major appliances. The exact service bundle and warranty terms remain subject to the product and policy conditions. Costco’s major-appliance returns page, published March 3, 2026, says returns are accepted within 90 days of receipt for the listed categories. Lowe’s
Lowe’s delivery and installation scope varies by appliance and location. New parts—such as connectors, hoses, cords, ducts, or installation kits—may be required and sold separately. Haul-away is generally an additional purchase, with a stated member exception. The information available here does not establish Lowe’s current major-appliance return window, so check the policy that applies to the specific product and order. The Home Depot
The Home Depot distinguishes delivery and installation at checkout from services arranged through Pro Referral. It says Pro Referral installers generally do not coordinate appliance pickup and delivery, and that most do not haul away old appliances. Check fit, hookups, and preparation before scheduling
Installation can depend on the room, route into the home, utility connections, and the appliance’s requirements. A retailer’s “basic installation” may not cover changes needed to make an incompatible or missing connection usable.
- Measure the appliance space and the route from the entrance to the installation location, including doorways and tight turns.
- Confirm the utility type and location, such as the electrical outlet, water supply, shutoff, or vent, as relevant to the appliance.
- Read the model’s manual for required hookups and connection kits. Home Depot advises noting the outlet, model number, and product and doorway dimensions when checking requirements.
- Ask the retailer whether existing connections are compatible and whether new parts, accessories, permits, or extra labor are excluded from the installation price.
- Clarify what must be done before delivery, including whether the old appliance must be disconnected or emptied and whether access or parking arrangements are needed.
- Ask how the delivery team handles inspection and acceptance, and what to do if the item arrives damaged or does not work.
If you need a refrigerator ice-maker connection, a query such as refrigerator water line installation kit may help you find the relevant part. Do not assume every refrigerator needs the same kit: check the model’s requirements and connector compatibility. Best Buy excludes a new waterline from its stated free refrigerator installation, and Lowe’s lists new connectors among parts that may be sold separately.

Understand return and warranty terms separately
A return window, a manufacturer warranty, and a retailer’s installation-workmanship warranty cover different things. Check each applicable policy rather than treating one as a substitute for another. Costco’s published 90-day period applies to its listed major-appliance categories and begins at receipt; Best Buy’s 90-day service workmanship warranty is about appliance services, not the period for returning an appliance.
Best Buy advises inspecting a major appliance before accepting delivery. If you notice damage, a defect, or another problem after acceptance, contact Best Buy promptly. For any retailer, establish who arranges pickup or return and whether the policy applies to the exact product before you place the order.
Make the decision from the complete order
- Choose the exact model and configuration you want.
- Check each retailer’s price and service eligibility for that model at your address.
- Add delivery, installation, required parts or permits, and haul-away where needed.
- Compare appointment availability and confirm the work included in the service description.
- Review the applicable return process and warranty terms before purchase.
- Save the order total and the relevant policy details for the retailer you choose.
The terms described here do not establish a lowest-price retailer, a universal return-policy winner, or which retailer has the best delivery crews. Prices, service availability, fees, and local requirements can differ by address and product.
