If your racing wheel isn’t recognized on PS5, first confirm the exact wheelbase supports PlayStation 5. Then set the wheel to its PS5/PlayStation mode before connecting it, plug it directly into the console, allow startup calibration to finish, and press the wheel’s PS button. If the PS5 menus respond but one game does not, check that title’s compatibility and settings rather than treating it as a console connection failure.
1. Confirm that the exact wheelbase supports PS5
Check the model name on the wheelbase and verify PlayStation 5 compatibility on the manufacturer’s support page. A wheel that works on a PC—or a steering rim used with a compatible base—is not automatically PS5-compatible. Fanatec says PlayStation compatibility is built into select wheelbases; its FAQ lists the Gran Turismo DD Pro and ClubSport DD+ as compatible with PS4 and PS5: Fanatec PlayStation Compatibility FAQ.
Compatibility with the console and support in a particular game are separate. Check the wheel maker’s information for both the exact wheel model and the game you want to play.
2. Select the correct PlayStation mode
If the wheel has a platform switch or selectable mode, use the manufacturer’s PS5 instructions and select the mode before connecting the USB cable to the console. Do not assume that another model’s button sequence or indicator colors apply to your wheel.

Thrustmaster T150
Thrustmaster says the T150’s sliding switch must be in the PS5-PS4 position before the wheel is connected to a console USB port. See the T150 support instructions.
Thrustmaster T128
The T128 indicates its mode with an LED: green is PC mode, blue is PlayStation standard compatibility, and red is PlayStation future compatibility. Its mode instructions recommend blue for PS4 and PS5. Consult the T128 mode instructions and the T128 support page for the current guidance and game-specific requirements.

Fanatec
Fanatec’s console troubleshooting calls for PS mode and describes a blue power LED for the supported setup. Use its wheel-base recognition FAQ for the instructions that match your base.
3. Check USB and power connections
- Turn the wheel off if its manufacturer recommends doing so before reconnecting it. Check that its power supply and USB cable are firmly seated and that neither cable nor port has visible damage.
- Connect the wheelbase directly to a PS5 USB port. For this test, remove USB hubs, extenders, and extension cables.
- If it is still not detected, try another PS5 USB port.
- Connect the wheel’s power supply as specified for that model. For T150 power or abnormal-calibration troubleshooting, Thrustmaster recommends connecting directly to a wall outlet rather than through a power strip or extension cord.
Power arrangements differ between wheels, so follow the maker’s instructions for your model. Direct USB connection and trying another port are also included in the Fanatec troubleshooting guidance and Logitech G29 PlayStation checklist.

4. Let the wheel start up, then press its PS button
Allow the wheel to complete its normal startup or calibration. Then press the PS button on the wheel to access the PlayStation session or profile. Thrustmaster includes this step in its T150 instructions, and Fanatec includes it in its console recognition steps.
5. Find out whether the problem is the PS5 or one game
Check whether the wheel responds in the PS5 menus. If it does, test it in another game that the manufacturer lists as supporting your exact model. If the console menus or another supported game work but your target title does not, focus on that game’s compatibility, required wheel mode, updates, and in-game settings.

Wheel support can vary by model, game, platform version, and required mode. Thrustmaster’s T128 support page links a game list with PS5 and mode details for individual titles. Logitech’s G29 PlayStation troubleshooting guide also recommends checking system and game updates, console and in-game settings, and testing with different games or consoles.
6. Check firmware using the maker’s current process
Look up the exact wheelbase on its manufacturer’s support site and follow the current firmware instructions for that model. Some games may require current wheel firmware. Fanatec’s instructions specify a Windows PC, the latest driver package, and its firmware update manager. Logitech states that its older G29 Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained, so do not rely on that retired tool. 7. Use model-specific recovery instructions or contact support
If the wheel has no lights or startup calibration, check its model-specific power and USB setup. Thrustmaster provides bootloader or wake-up guidance for named models such as the T150 and T128; use those procedures only if your model and symptoms match the instructions on the T150 support page or T128 support page.
Stop trying generic mode combinations if the wheel remains undetected or you see damage to a cable or port. Contact the manufacturer’s technical support with the exact wheel and base model, firmware version if known, whether the wheel starts up, what happens in PS5 menus and games, and the steps you have already tried. Quick troubleshooting path
- No lights or calibration: Check the model’s power and USB setup, then consult its named-model wake-up or bootloader guidance if available.
- Wheel lights up, but the PS5 does not respond: Recheck PS5 compatibility and mode, connect directly to another USB port, let startup finish, and press the PS button.
- PS5 menus respond, but one game does not: Check that game’s support list, required mode, updates, and in-game settings.
- Still undetected or visibly damaged: Contact the wheel manufacturer with the model, symptoms, and troubleshooting steps already attempted.
When replacement is actually worth considering
Replacing the wheel should not be the first troubleshooting step. Consider it only after the exact model is confirmed unsupported or the manufacturer determines that the wheel or base is faulty. Compare a replacement’s explicit PS5 compatibility for its exact base, support for the games you play, and its mode and firmware requirements. If support identifies a damaged cable or base, ask about repair or warranty options before assuming a new wheel is necessary.
