The Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory is a legacy graphics-card family for PCI Express PCs. Its “128MB” label does not necessarily mean the card has 128 MB of physical video memory: HyperMemory can combine onboard memory with shared system RAM. The exact board model determines its local memory, connectors, and other specifications.

What is the Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory?

“Radeon X300 SE” identifies the graphics processor family; “HyperMemory” refers to a feature that uses system memory alongside memory on the card. One documented example is GIGABYTE’s GV-RX30HM128D, which GIGABYTE lists as a legacy PCI-E product. Its specifications are useful for identifying that particular board, not every X300 SE variant.

GIGABYTE GV-RX30HM128D specifications

Specification GIGABYTE GV-RX30HM128D
Interface PCI-E
Memory 128 MB DDR listed as DDR 4Mx32; product description also identifies a 32 MB local frame buffer
Memory bus 64-bit
Pipelines Four
Graphics APIs listed DirectX 9.0 and OpenGL
Outputs DVI-I, D-sub (VGA) by adapter, and TV-out
Core and memory clocks Not stated (listed as N/A on GIGABYTE’s product specification page)

These figures come from GIGABYTE’s GV-RX30HM128D specifications. Another manufacturer’s X300 SE card may have a different memory configuration or set of outputs.

Does 128MB HyperMemory mean 128 MB of onboard memory?

Not necessarily. Onboard video memory (also called local VRAM or a local frame buffer) is physically on the graphics card. HyperMemory’s advertised total can also count system RAM that the graphics card can share. The Diamond Stealth X300SE manual explains that its advertised memory total combines local and shared system memory; it identifies 128MB and 256MB HyperMemory variants. GIGABYTE, meanwhile, lists 128 MB DDR for the GV-RX30HM128D and specifies a 32 MB local frame buffer in its product description. Those descriptions apply to their named products, and the labels should not be treated as proof of the same local memory capacity across all boards.

For a used card, look up the exact manufacturer and model number, then distinguish its local framebuffer from any advertised HyperMemory total. A generic “X300 SE 128MB” listing may not provide enough information to determine the physical memory installed.

Will it fit an older PC?

The documented GIGABYTE card uses PCI-E, and the Diamond manual describes its Stealth X300SE as a PCI Express x16 card. These specifications do not establish compatibility with every motherboard or case. Check the exact card and PC before buying.

  • Item Package Dimension: 12.75L x 10.07W x 3.30H inches
  • Item Package Weight - 0.97 Pounds
  • Item Package Quantity - 1
  • Product Type - VIDEO CARD
  • Slot: Confirm the motherboard has a compatible PCI Express slot; the Diamond manual specifies PCI Express x16 for its card.
  • Dimensions and power: Check the particular board’s size and power requirements against the available space and system. The cited sources do not establish universal requirements for every X300 SE variant.
  • Display connection: GIGABYTE documents DVI-I, VGA through an adapter, and TV-out for its GV-RX30HM128D. Inspect the actual card and confirm whether any needed adapter is included.
  • Condition and identity: Verify the model number and photographs against the seller’s description; a family name alone does not establish the board’s configuration or condition.

The Diamond manual’s Windows XP and PCI Express x16 requirements are period guidance, not evidence of current operating-system support.

What can it do today?

This is period graphics hardware, not a sensible choice for modern gaming or software that requires newer graphics APIs. GIGABYTE lists DirectX 9.0 and OpenGL for its board; TechPowerUp’s X300 SE HyperMemory database entry reports no DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 support. These API details do not establish current driver or operating-system compatibility, which should be checked separately for the exact system.

When was the X300 SE HyperMemory introduced?

PC Watch reported on March 3, 2005 that ATI had announced the value-segment Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory on March 1 local time. TechPowerUp’s database separately records an October 25, 2006 launch date. The cited sources do not explain the difference, so these dates should be understood as separate source records rather than a single reconciled release date.
