PlayStation Gift Cards and Wallet Funds: Region Rules

A PlayStation Store gift card must match the country or region of the PlayStation account that redeems it. Wallet funds can be used for eligible PlayStation Store purchases, but they generally cannot be transferred to another account or refunded. Check the account region before buying a voucher, especially when purchasing for someone else.

Can you use a PlayStation gift card from another country?

Only if the voucher’s country or region matches the country or region on the PlayStation account. A familiar currency or a card bought while traveling does not make it compatible: PlayStation requires the voucher and account regions to match. Physical vouchers show their region; check the printed terms on digital codes as well.

PlayStation says an account’s country or region cannot be changed after the account is created. Confirm the region before buying a card or setting up an account.

Check the account region

Sign in to Account Management.
Open Your Information, then select Edit your Residential Address. PlayStation displays the account region there.
You can also check account information through the PlayStation App.

What can PlayStation wallet funds pay for?

A gift card can add funds to the account’s virtual wallet, and a voucher may also be redeemed during checkout. Wallet funds can be used for PlayStation Store purchases and certain third-party services covered by the applicable terms; they have no value outside PlayStation services.

Wallet funds are generally non-refundable and non-transferable under PlayStation’s US terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Do not count on cashing out a balance, moving it to a different account, or obtaining a refund. Local terms and law apply, and the maximum wallet balance is not a universal figure: check the current rules for the account’s country or region before adding funds.

How do you redeem a voucher?

PlayStation’s Australian voucher guide describes 12-digit codes and one-time redemption. The precise interface and voucher details may vary by market, but the general redemption mechanism is to enter the code through the Store or redeem it during checkout.

Confirm the voucher region matches the account region.
On PlayStation Store, choose the option to redeem a code and enter the voucher code. During checkout, choose the redeem-code option if you want to apply a voucher to that purchase.
Review the amount and transaction details before confirming. A redeemed code can be used only once.

Check the specific voucher’s printed terms for any expiry or other restrictions; there is no single expiry period established for every PlayStation gift card.

What should you check before buying a card for someone?

Account region: Match the voucher’s country or region to the recipient’s PlayStation account. This is the decisive compatibility check.
Denomination: Choose an amount that fits the recipient’s intended purchase and does not exceed the account’s applicable wallet limit.
Seller and proof of purchase: Buy from a seller you trust and keep the receipt or order confirmation in case redemption fails.
Voucher terms: Read the code’s redemption, expiry, and other restrictions rather than assuming they are identical across countries.

Do game add-ons work across regions?

Not always. PlayStation Store catalogs and services vary by country or region, and downloadable add-on content may not work with a game disc from a different licensed region. If buying DLC for a disc game, check the game’s licensed region on its packaging or ask the retailer, then make sure it matches the add-on’s region.

Can a child account add wallet funds?

Under PlayStation’s US support guidance, child accounts cannot add funds directly. Store purchases use the family manager’s wallet and are subject to a monthly spending limit. Check the family manager’s wallet balance and spending limit before expecting a child account to complete a purchase. Rules can differ by country, so consult the local PlayStation guidance.

Which payment methods can you use?

Payment methods depend on the account’s country or region. PlayStation’s US support material lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Cash App Pay. That is a US-specific list, not a worldwide guarantee. Check PlayStation’s local payment guidance for the options available to the account.
