Choose Standard if you mainly want to play Grand Theft Auto VI. Consider Ultimate only if its additional in-game content is worth the extra cost to you. Rockstar says Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later, so you do not have to commit to Ultimate before playing. Check the prices for your platform before deciding: the available official price information does not establish the Ultimate price or the upgrade price.

What do Standard and Ultimate include?

Rockstar lists two editions of Grand Theft Auto VI: Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition. Both are offered for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Standard includes the game; Rockstar’s store comparison associates additional in-game content with Ultimate, but its rendered comparison also shows many listed items under Standard. That overlap means the comparison does not clearly establish which items are exclusive to Ultimate or exactly what Ultimate adds over Standard.

For that reason, treat Ultimate as the edition to consider if its extra content appeals to you, rather than relying on an unverified item-by-item list of exclusive bonuses. Check the current comparison on the storefront where you plan to buy.

How to decide which GTA 6 edition to buy

  • Choose Standard if your priority is the base game and you do not place enough value on Ultimate’s additional content to justify paying more.
  • Consider Ultimate if the extra in-game content is important to you and its price makes sense compared with buying Standard and the upgrade separately.
  • Compare prices on the same platform. Check the current Ultimate price against the Standard price plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade price in the PlayStation or Microsoft store. The Rockstar Store page’s $79.99 listing does not, by itself, establish the Ultimate price or the difference between editions.
  • Match the edition to your console. Buy the PS5 version for PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X|S version for a compatible Xbox console.
  • Check format and purchase timing. Rockstar’s physical package is code-in-box, not a disc copy. If bonuses matter to you, confirm the applicable offer and terms before purchase.

The choice is conditional rather than a universal value verdict: the Ultimate and upgrade prices are not established by the available official price information, and the exact incremental content is not clearly identified in the store comparison.

Can you upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. Rockstar says Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming their Standard Edition code. Buyers of the physical code-in-box version may also upgrade after redeeming its digital download code.

This provides a lower-commitment route: start with Standard, then decide whether to upgrade. The later upgrade price is not established here, so compare it with the full Ultimate price on your platform before choosing that route.

Is the physical edition a disc?

No. Rockstar says the physical version is a package containing a download code; it does not include a disc. Rockstar Games Customer Support states: “A disc will not be included in the box.” See Rockstar’s platforms, editions and versions article for the format details.

Choose digital if you prefer buying and redeeming through your platform’s store. If you prefer a boxed product, note that the code-in-box package still requires downloading the game; the packaging does not contain the game data.

Release, pre-loading and pre-order bonuses

Rockstar announced a November 19, 2026 release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-loading scheduled to begin November 12. These dates and offers can change, so check Rockstar’s pre-order announcement and the relevant platform store for current terms.

Rockstar’s announcement says purchases made before November 20, 2026 qualify for the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar Support also says digital pre-orders and purchases before that date include one month of GTA+. Do not assume these offers apply after their stated window. Check the live price before buying

Edition prices can differ by platform and region. The Rockstar Store page lists $79.99, but that listing is not enough to identify the Ultimate price or calculate its premium over Standard. Before checkout, compare the current prices for Standard, Ultimate and the Ultimate Edition Upgrade on your intended platform. If the store does not make the included content or upgrade terms clear, use Rockstar’s GTA 6 page and the platform listing to verify the details.
