MINISFORUM’s MS-A1 is a compact workstation built around a socketed AMD AM5 desktop-CPU platform. The company lists Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 8000 support, up to 96GB of DDR5 memory, four M.2 NVMe slots and OCuLink. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results, and CPU compatibility depends on the exact processor and system configuration.

What the MINISFORUM MS-A1 is

The MS-A1 is the specific MINISFORUM mini PC behind the “AM5 socket” description. Unlike a mini PC built around a soldered mobile processor, it uses a socketed desktop CPU platform. MINISFORUM’s official product listing and Ryzen product collection identify Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 8000 series support and show configurations including the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 9 9950X.

That does not mean every AM5 processor will work. Before buying or installing a CPU, confirm that its exact model is supported for the MS-A1, including the required BIOS and any architecture or power-limit conditions. The listed configurations are a safer starting point than assuming socket fit guarantees compatibility.

Feature What MINISFORUM lists
CPU platform Socketed AMD AM5; Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 8000 series support is listed. The product page shows Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 9 9950X configurations.
Memory Dual-channel DDR5-5200, up to 96GB.
Storage Four M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe slots. MINISFORUM qualifies four-drive operation to CPUs based on Raphael, Phoenix and Granite Ridge architectures.
Expansion and networking OCuLink and two 2.5Gb Ethernet ports are advertised.
USB4 USB4 is specified only with Phoenix CPUs; check the selected CPU configuration rather than assuming every version has it.

The four-slot storage figure describes the advertised configuration, not a tested storage-capacity result. The CPU-architecture qualification matters if you plan to populate all four M.2 slots.

What to check before choosing a configuration

  • CPU: Verify the exact processor against MINISFORUM’s current compatibility information. Do not treat AM5 socket compatibility as universal support.
  • BIOS and power: Confirm the BIOS requirement and the processor’s supported power limits for the MS-A1 before upgrading or assembling a system.
  • Memory and drives: Check that your planned memory and NVMe drives match the advertised DDR5 and M.2 specifications, and verify the CPU architecture if you intend to use four drives.
  • Ports: Confirm which USB connections are available in the selected configuration; MINISFORUM ties USB4 to Phoenix CPUs.
  • Expansion needs: OCuLink is listed for external expansion, while the two 2.5Gb Ethernet ports may matter for wired networking. Check the official listing for the full port description.

Availability and what barebone means

MINISFORUM’s official product listing currently marks the MS-A1 out of stock. A displayed configuration or price should not be treated as an available offer; check the listing again before purchasing. The barebone option excludes a CPU and an operating-system license, so account for those separately when comparing configurations.

Who should consider the MS-A1

The MS-A1 is worth considering if you specifically want a compact system with a socketed desktop Ryzen platform, rather than a mini PC whose mobile CPU is soldered in place. Its advertised memory capacity, four M.2 slots, OCuLink and dual 2.5Gb Ethernet give buyers several configuration points to evaluate, but the right choice depends on confirmed CPU support, the drive layout you need, and the actual system configuration available.

The manufacturer material cited here does not establish independent benchmark results or show that the MS-A1 outperforms another compact PC. Compare systems by exact CPU support and power limits, memory ceiling, storage-slot configuration, expansion connections, and total cost for the parts and license you need.
