Apple’s in-house 5G modem with mmWave support is the C2, and it arrived with the iPhone 18 Pro generation on September 9, 2026. Apple’s specifications list mmWave support for certain configurations, but availability varies by region and exact model.
Which Apple modem supports mmWave?
The modem is Apple’s C2. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications identify the C2 cellular modem and list 5G NR mmWave bands n258, n260, and n261 for the configurations covered by that page.
That is a specification listing, not a guarantee that every iPhone 18 Pro sold worldwide includes mmWave. MacRumors’ September 9, 2026 launch coverage reports that Apple’s U.S. specifications list mmWave, while its U.K. specifications list sub-6 GHz only. Check the specifications for your exact model and country before buying.
How is C2 different from Apple’s earlier modems?
Earlier Apple-designed modems did not provide the mmWave support reported for C2. TELETIME News describes the C1 in iPhone 16e and C1X in iPhone Air as predecessors without mmWave. Apple had supported mmWave in some earlier U.S. iPhones, but those phones used externally supplied modems; C2 is the first Apple in-house modem generation in this account to add it.

Does C2’s mmWave support matter to everyday use?
It matters if you use a compatible regional model where your carrier has mmWave coverage. The technology can offer high capacity over shorter distances, but obstacles impede its reach and networks generally require denser deployment. A compatible phone alone does not mean mmWave service will be available where you use it.
For the iPhone 18 Pro launch, Apple also claimed that C2 uses 15 percent less energy than C1X and provides faster uploads. Those are company-reported comparisons covered by MacRumors, not independent test results established here.

What about earlier predictions for C2?
A July 6, 2026 9to5Mac roadmap report described C2 as expected in the iPhone 18 Pro generation. That was a forecast; Apple’s September launch and current specifications establish that the modem has since arrived.
Quick Recap
Best Value
