Wispr Flow launched on Android on February 23, 2026, bringing its AI dictation app to phones through a floating bubble that works alongside the keyboard you already use. It requires Android 13 or newer and an internet connection; it is designed for most standard text fields, not every app or input screen.
What Wispr Flow does on Android
Flow turns speech into text and inserts the result into an eligible text field. Wispr says it can add punctuation, remove filler words, handle spoken self-corrections and format numbered lists. The company lists support for more than 100 languages on its Android product page.
Flow first came to Mac and Windows, followed by iOS in June 2025. The Android version takes a different approach from iOS: instead of supplying a dedicated keyboard, it uses a floating bubble above the keyboard already installed on the device. The launch and platform history were reported by TechCrunch on February 23, 2026.
How the floating bubble works
After setup, open an eligible text field and bring up the keyboard. When the field is supported, Flow’s bubble appears over the app. You can tap the bubble to begin speaking and tap again to stop, or press and hold it while speaking and release to submit. The app then inserts the recognized text into the field.

This is an overlay, not a keyboard replacement: you keep using Gboard or another keyboard for typing, punctuation edits and other input. Wispr’s Android installation guide, last updated October 2, 2026, describes installing from Google Play, signing in, choosing language and gesture settings, and granting the permissions Flow needs.
Requirements and app compatibility
- Android version: Android 13 or newer.
- Internet: Flow requires an internet connection for transcription; offline dictation is not supported by the stated requirements.
- Text fields: Wispr says Flow works in most apps with standard Android text fields. Custom input systems may not work, and the bubble is not shown in some password, numeric and phone-number fields.
- Banking and financial apps: Wispr’s support documentation says Flow hides the bubble in supported banking and financial apps.
- Form factor: Android tablets and foldables are supported, though Wispr says the experience is not yet optimized for them.
These qualifications matter: an installed app and granted permissions do not guarantee that the bubble will appear in every screen. If dictation does not insert text, first check whether the field is a standard Android text field and whether Accessibility Service setup finished. Some manufacturers also require device-specific battery or background-activity settings so Flow’s service remains available.

Permissions and data disclosures
Flow requests three permissions tied to its operation: overlay access to display the bubble, Accessibility Service access to detect editable fields and insert dictated text, and microphone access to capture speech. Depending on the handset, you may also need to exempt Flow from battery optimization to keep its background service available. Review the permission prompts and Android settings before enabling access.
The Google Play listing presents two disclosures with different scopes. Its developer-provided explanation says the Accessibility Service detects editable fields, inserts dictated text and detects keyboard visibility; it says the service is not used to collect, store or share personal data from other apps when dictation is inactive. Separately, the listing’s Data Safety panel says the app may collect personal and audio data and may share multiple data types. During setup, Wispr also asks whether dictation data may be used to improve its models or should not be shared for that purpose. Choose the option that matches your preference.
What the launch claims do—and do not—show
TechCrunch reported that Wispr said an infrastructure rewrite made dictation 30% faster. That is a company-reported comparison; the report did not provide an independent benchmark methodology. The same report attributed to Wispr more than 1.3 million English words spoken by users during the first few days of the selective rollout. That is an early usage figure, not a user count.

Neither figure establishes that Flow is faster or more accurate than Android’s built-in dictation or another voice-input tool. No independent Android benchmark is cited here, so treat performance comparisons as unverified.
