Panasonic’s LUMIX ZS99 is a pocketable point-and-shoot built around a 30x optical zoom lens, covering 24–720mm in 35mm-equivalent terms. Announced on December 17, 2024, it adds manufacturer-rated 4K video, image stabilization, a tilting touchscreen, USB-C charging, and wireless phone transfer. Its original US launch price was $499.99; that is a historical price, not a current quote.
What is the Panasonic LUMIX ZS99?
The LUMIX ZS99, model DC-ZS99, is a compact travel-zoom point-and-shoot. Panasonic announced it in December 2024 and planned US availability for mid-February 2025. The camera is offered in black (DC-ZS99E-K) and silver (DC-ZS99E-S), according to Panasonic North America’s announcement.
Its defining feature is reach: the lens provides 30x optical zoom, with a physical focal-length range of 4.3–129mm and a 35mm-equivalent range of 24–720mm. That spans a useful wide angle through a long telephoto view without changing lenses. The long end can help frame distant subjects, while the 24mm-equivalent wide end suits broader scenes.
What features does the ZS99 offer?
Stabilization and burst options
Panasonic specifies 5-axis HYBRID O.I.S.+ stabilization. This is a manufacturer feature claim, not a guarantee that every handheld shot will be blur-free. Panasonic also lists 4K PHOTO bursts at up to 30 frames per second, intended for extracting still images from short bursts.

Is the LUMIX ZS99 a good point-and-shoot camera?
It is a plausible fit for someone who values a compact camera with a much longer built-in zoom than a typical pocket camera. The tradeoff is a fixed-lens design: the reach is convenient, but you cannot swap to a different lens. The ZS99 also has no viewfinder, as noted by TechRadar’s launch coverage, so composition relies on the rear screen.
The available product information does not establish independent image-quality, autofocus, or low-light test results. Buyers who prioritize those outcomes should consult hands-on reviews or compare verified specifications with other cameras before deciding. Panasonic’s official specifications identify the battery as a DMW-BLG10PP lithium-ion pack; the manual covers SDHC and SDXC cards. Check it for requirements tied to the recording mode you plan to use rather than assuming a card size or speed.

How much zoom does the Lumix ZS99 have?
It has 30x optical zoom. Panasonic gives the lens range as 4.3–129mm physically, equivalent to 24–720mm on a 35mm-format camera. Optical zoom changes the lens’s field of view; it is distinct from digital enlargement.
Does the Panasonic ZS99 shoot 4K?
Yes. Panasonic specifies 4K video recording at 30p, as well as 4K PHOTO bursts at 30fps and HD high-speed video at 120fps. Those are separate features and should not be confused: 4K/30p is a video mode, while 4K PHOTO captures a burst for selecting still frames.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the current price and stock for your country; launch pricing is no longer a reliable quote.
- Decide whether the 24–720mm-equivalent range matters more to you than having a viewfinder or interchangeable lenses.
- Check the official manual for card compatibility and recording-mode requirements, and confirm the camera’s battery model if you want a spare.
- Look for independent reviews if image quality, autofocus, or low-light performance is central to your decision; those results are not established by Panasonic’s feature list.
