If you want a change, ask the service that booked your e-ticket—or a reservation center for a paper ticket—whether it can change that specific booking before cancelling it. For a documented refund, the process and deductions depend on your ticket type and how close the train is to departure.
Can I change my Pakistan Railways ticket date?
Pakistan Railways’ published terms and online cancellation interface explain how to cancel tickets; they do not set out a procedure for changing a booking to another date or train. Rescheduling availability, fees, and deadlines are therefore unconfirmed.
Before cancelling, ask the original booking or payment provider about an e-ticket, or a reservation center about a paper ticket. Do not assume a ticket is transferable or that a change will be allowed. The official Pakistan Railways Terms and Conditions and online cancellation interface are the relevant places to check.
Pakistan Railways ticket cancellation charges for online e-tickets
Pakistan Railways’ published online policy deducts a percentage of the amount paid when you cancel. The time is measured against the train’s departure from its originating station or from the origin of the reserved seat’s quota—not necessarily the time you plan to board.

These deductions and restrictions are stated in Pakistan Railways’ Terms and Conditions and reflected in its cancellation interface. Pakistan Railways says the guard chart is often prepared about two hours before departure, but it may be prepared earlier at some remote locations. The cutoff can therefore arrive earlier than expected; check the booking interface promptly rather than waiting for the final two hours.
How to cancel an online e-ticket and request the refund
- Check the booking and applicable departure time. Open the booking or cancellation screen and confirm the train details. The screen presents seats for selection and shows the deduction based on time to departure.
- Submit cancellation while it is available. Select the relevant seat or seats and complete the cancellation in the interface. The online policy bars cancellation inside two hours before departure or after guard-chart production.
- Contact the service provider that took payment. Pakistan Railways says the refund is made through the same payment method used for the booking.
- Show the required documents. Have the passenger’s original CNIC and the cancellation SMS or text from Pakistan Railways ready; the policy says to show the message to the service provider.
Paper-ticket refund rules
For a paper ticket bought at a reservation center, Pakistan Railways directs passengers to seek the refund at a reservation center; its terms say any nearest reservation center may be used. Bring a photocopy of the passenger’s CNIC.

These are paper-ticket provisions from Pakistan Railways’ Terms and Conditions; they are distinct from the online e-ticket rule that blocks cancellation once fewer than two hours remain or the guard chart is produced. Follow the applicable policy for the format of ticket you hold.
Cancelled trains, long delays, and unavailable reserved coaches
Train cancelled or delayed more than six hours
For an online-ticket refund when a train is cancelled or delayed by more than six hours, the published policy says no deduction applies. It directs the passenger to submit a written application to the Chief Commercial Manager’s office, signed by the station master to confirm the event.

Reserved coach unavailable because of damage or accident
Pakistan Railways’ terms describe a full refund when a reserved coach cannot be provided because of damage or an accident. The stated process requires a station-master certificate and a written request to the Chief Commercial Manager’s office.
These disruption procedures are set out in the official Terms and Conditions. Keep the application and supporting confirmation with your ticket and payment details.

How to follow up on a refund complaint
Pakistan Railways estimates that complaints about online and advance-reservation ticket refunds take one week to resolve. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed refund-processing deadline. Its complaint-resolution page also says a printed complaint book is available from station masters or guards and names station management or the divisional commercial officer as contacts for several service issues.
If you need a central contact, the official Pakistan Railways contact page lists the Headquarters Office in Lahore, the Chief Commercial & Facilitation Manager at 042-99201383, and info@pakrail.gov.pk. Check that page for current details before contacting them, because contact information can change.
