Sony has not announced a PlayStation 6 name, final specifications, retail price, or launch date in the reporting reviewed. The headline figures—a roughly $960 component-cost estimate and a claim of about 3.1 times the PS5’s ray-tracing frame rates—are attributed to leakers, not confirmed Sony specifications or measured console results.
What is actually confirmed about the PS6?
Recent reporting describes Sony as planning next-generation PlayStation hardware, but it does not establish an officially announced PS6 product with finalized details. The name “PS6,” its specifications, price, and release timing remain unconfirmed in the sources reviewed. iTechGuides’ summary of what Sony has revealed and its overview of PS6 rumors distinguish reported planning from confirmed product information.
What do the PS6 price rumors mean?
The roughly $960 figure is a component-cost estimate
VideoCardz reported in 2026 that hardware leaker KeplerL2 raised a PS6 bill-of-materials estimate by $200, to around $960. A bill of materials estimates the cost of components; it is not the price consumers would pay, and the report cautions that it does not confirm a retail price near $1,000. VideoCardz’s report attributes the number to the leaker.
The $350–$1,000 range describes a different rumor
Tom’s Guide reported a Moore’s Law is Dead estimate of $350 to $1,000 for a rumored three-device lineup, based on assumptions about component costs and tariffs. This is a speculative range for multiple rumored devices—not announced pricing for one confirmed PS6 console. It should not be compared directly with a single-console bill-of-materials estimate. Tom’s Guide explains the estimate and its assumptions.

How large is the rumored performance uplift?
GamesRadar+ reported that leaker Kepler L2 estimated about 3.1 times the PS5’s ray-tracing frame rates, extrapolating from an AMD estimate and a game-rendering comparison. That is not an official PS6 specification or a measured PS6 result. It does not establish a particular resolution or frame rate, and it should not be read as a performance gain guaranteed across games. GamesRadar+ reports the estimate and its basis.
How to interpret the claims side by side
| Claim | What it refers to | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Around $960 | KeplerL2’s reported bill-of-materials estimate, reported by VideoCardz in 2026 | Sony’s retail price or a confirmed console configuration |
| $350–$1,000 | Moore’s Law is Dead’s scenario estimate for three rumored devices, reported by Tom’s Guide in 2026, with component-cost and tariff assumptions | Announced pricing for a single PS6 console |
| About 3.1x | Kepler L2’s extrapolation of PS6 ray-tracing frame rates versus PS5, reported by GamesRadar+ in 2026 | Measured PS6 performance or a guaranteed uplift in every game |
These figures answer different questions: one estimates component costs, another models a possible multi-device lineup, and the third extrapolates a graphics-performance comparison. None is a final Sony product specification or price.

What remains unknown
- Whether Sony will use the PS6 name.
- What hardware specifications and configurations will ship.
- When the next-generation console or any related devices will launch.
- What Sony will charge for any retail product.
The sources reviewed do not resolve these points. Until Sony announces them, treat the price and performance numbers as attributed rumors rather than buying or budgeting facts.
