Compare the exact product, plan, contract, region, and integrations against your organization’s requirements. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google each describe protections and governance controls for business use, but those controls differ in scope—and the available SLA evidence does not support an overall reliability winner.
What is being compared?
“Claude,” “ChatGPT,” and “Gemini” each refer to products used in different settings. The claims below concern business or commercial offerings, not a blanket comparison of consumer chat accounts. In particular, Google’s privacy claims discussed here are for Gemini in Google Workspace, while its separate Google Cloud SLA applies to Gemini for Google Cloud.
| Provider and business scope | Published business-data position | Examples of documented controls | Reliability evidence covered here |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI: ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and other named business offerings, plus the API platform | OpenAI says covered business data, including inputs and outputs, is excluded from model training by default. | Plan-dependent controls include MFA, roles, SAML SSO, GPT controls, SCIM, custom role-based access controls, analytics, retention controls, and API audit-log capabilities. | The cited business page does not provide a comparable uptime commitment. |
| Anthropic: Claude Enterprise and commercial services for organizations and developers | Anthropic’s commercial terms say it may not train models on Customer Content; its Enterprise page also says prompts, data, and results are not used to train models by default. | Claude Enterprise lists SSO, SCIM, RBAC, audit logs, a Compliance API, retention controls, customer-managed keys, US-only inference, network controls, and connector governance. | The cited Enterprise page and commercial terms do not provide a comparable uptime commitment. |
| Google: Gemini for Google Workspace; separately, Gemini for Google Cloud | Google says Workspace data is not used to train or improve Gemini models or for ad targeting. | Workspace controls include permission-aware retrieval, DLP, information-rights management, and client-side encryption; Google also describes digital-sovereignty controls. | Separate SLAs state 99.9% monthly commitments for covered Workspace services and a 99.9% monthly service-level objective for Gemini for Google Cloud, each under its own terms. |
“Not comparable” does not mean a provider has no SLA; it means the cited pages do not establish a like-for-like commitment across these offerings. The table describes vendor-published positions, not independent security testing.
Is Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini safe for business data?
All three vendors publish business-data protections, but “safe” depends on what data employees enter, which product processes it, the controls enabled, and what the contract says. A promise about one business product should not be carried over to a consumer service, a different plan, or a connected third-party integration.

OpenAI says its named business products and API platform do not use business inputs or outputs for model training by default. Anthropic’s commercial terms, effective June 17, 2025, say it may not train models on Customer Content; Claude Enterprise separately describes a default no-training position. Google’s statement is specifically about Workspace data: it says that data is not used to train or improve Gemini models or for ads targeting. Confirm the applicable terms for the product and data path you intend to use.
Before approving a workflow, map what enters the service and what it can retrieve or send onward. Prompts are only one data class: outputs, uploaded files, connected repositories, audit records, and integration data may have distinct retention and access rules. Check whether users can connect apps or data sources, whether retrieval respects existing permissions, and whether administrators can control those connections.
Questions to resolve before rollout
- Which exact product and plan will employees use, and does its business agreement govern every intended user?
- Are prompts, uploads, outputs, and connector data covered by the stated training and privacy terms?
- What retention and deletion settings apply to content, logs, and backups, and can they be configured for your needs?
- Can administrators enforce SSO, role-based access, user provisioning and deprovisioning, and restrictions on integrations?
- Where is content stored and processed? Are residency or customer-managed-key controls available for the specific plan and region?
- Can your security team obtain the audit events it needs, at the required level of detail and on the required schedule?
How do the privacy and governance controls differ?
The useful comparison is not the length of a feature list; it is whether a control exists in the plan you will buy, covers the relevant data, and fits your operating model. Availability can differ between plans and products.

OpenAI
OpenAI describes encryption at rest and in transit, using AES-256 and TLS 1.2 or higher, and lists retention controls for qualifying organizations, including zero data retention on the API platform. Its page identifies SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001/27017/27018/27701, and CSA STAR alignment or certification claims, as well as DPA support. Eligible products can store content at rest in named regions; certain customers can opt into in-region inference or processing as described by OpenAI. These are product- and eligibility-dependent controls, not a guarantee that every ChatGPT plan supports every option.

Anthropic
Claude Enterprise lists SSO and domain capture, SCIM provisioning, spend controls, RBAC, audit logs, a Compliance API, OpenTelemetry monitoring, data-retention controls, customer-managed encryption keys, US-only inference, network controls, and connector governance. Google describes Workspace retrieval as limited to content the user can access and identifies built-in DLP, information-rights-management, and client-side-encryption controls. It also lists ISO 42001 and SOC 1/2/3 certifications and presents digital-sovereignty controls. These claims concern Google’s services and configurations; they do not establish that a particular organization has configured Workspace correctly or that every Gemini integration follows the same data path.
Which one is compliant with your industry rules?
No product badge or vendor statement makes every customer deployment compliant. Compliance depends on the applicable law and contract, the customer’s data and workflow, configuration, user practices, and the organization’s own safeguards.

Treat certifications as evidence about a defined scope, not as proof that your use case automatically satisfies a law or regulator.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which business AI has an uptime SLA?
The cited Google terms include two different 99.9% figures, but neither means every Gemini feature is guaranteed to be available 99.9% of the time. The Google Workspace SLA, last modified August 31, 2026, commits to at least 99.9% monthly uptime for its covered Workspace services, subject to the SLA’s measurement rules, exclusions, claim requirements, and conditional service-credit remedy. Its covered-service list includes products such as Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs, Drive, Meet, Sheets, and Vault; do not assume that every Gemini capability is covered simply because it appears in Workspace.
The separate Gemini for Google Cloud SLA states a 99.9% monthly service-level objective for that named service. Its downtime calculation uses a server-side 5XX internal-error rate, measured over periods of at least five consecutive minutes and subject to a minimum request volume. It has its own exclusions, claim deadline, and service-credit terms. It is not an observed uptime statistic or a general commitment for Google Workspace Gemini.

The cited OpenAI and Anthropic pages do not establish comparable uptime terms for ChatGPT or Claude. That is not evidence that either provider has no applicable SLA; obtain the current terms for the exact product and contract and compare covered service, measurement window, exclusions, claim process, and remedy.
Does an uptime SLA mean the AI is reliable?
No. Service availability and the quality of model answers are different dimensions. An SLA defines a contractual measure for a covered service under specified conditions; it does not promise that answers are factually correct, that responses meet a latency target, or that every feature will be uninterrupted.
Anthropic’s commercial terms explicitly warn customers that output assertions may be false, incomplete, misleading, or out of date and say customers must check factual claims. This is a practical requirement for any high-impact business use: assign human review where errors matter, test the intended tasks, and define what employees may rely on the output to do.
The official pages compared here do not provide a harmonized, independent dataset for cross-vendor uptime, latency, incident frequency, recovery, or model-answer quality. Marketing examples and isolated benchmark claims cannot fill that gap. Ask vendors for service-specific status and incident history, support and recovery arrangements, and any commitments relevant to your workload; run a controlled evaluation of answer quality using your own representative tasks.
How should a business choose?
Use a requirements-first review rather than choosing by model reputation. A product that fits your existing identity, data, and audit systems may be easier to govern, but integration convenience is not a substitute for contract review or workflow testing.
Quick Recap
- Define the workload. List the data types, users, connected sources, regions, and consequences of a wrong answer or service interruption.
- Set minimum controls. Specify training-data treatment, retention and deletion, identity and access, connector restrictions, audit evidence, encryption, residency, and any regulated-data terms you require.
- Match requirements to the exact offer. Compare ChatGPT Business versus Enterprise or API, Claude Enterprise versus other commercial services, and Gemini for Workspace versus Gemini for Google Cloud. Record which features are included, optional, or unavailable for your plan and region.
- Review the contract and service terms. Confirm data-processing terms, eligible configurations, support, incident notification, uptime scope, exclusions, and remedies with the vendor or your procurement and legal teams.
- Test operations and answers separately. Evaluate access, logging, retention, integration behavior, latency, failure handling, and answer quality against representative tasks before broad deployment.
- Reassess after changes. Product features, terms, and service commitments can change; review them when plans, integrations, regions, or workflows change.
