Alpakka 2 is a gamepad built around gyro-driven mouse input: instead of relying on a desk mouse, a player can aim by rotating the controller. Input Labs offers it as a maker-oriented DIY version and a pre-assembled PRO version. The project also lists gamepad, keyboard and mouse outputs, so it is intended to cover more than motion-controlled aiming.
What Alpakka 2 is designed to do
Input Labs presents Alpakka 2 as a controller for using mouse-like motion in PC games and other software. Its central idea is to translate controller movement into mouse input, making gyro aiming an alternative for people who prefer a handheld controller or play away from a desk. The product is still in development, and its manufacturer’s published specifications may change. Input Labs’ Alpakka 2 overview and the Hackster report describe that intended role.
Input Labs’ mouse manual documents how the earlier Alpakka handled this interaction: touching a hexagonal surface engaged mouse mode, turning the controller moved the cursor, and lifting a finger paused input and allowed recentering. The manual assigns primary and secondary clicks to the triggers. That explains the project’s control concept, but it describes the earlier Alpakka; it does not establish that every gesture or mapping is unchanged on Alpakka 2. Read the earlier Alpakka mouse-emulation manual.
DIY or PRO: what changes?
| Choice | Assembly and enclosure | What Input Labs says is shared |
|---|---|---|
| DIY | Maker build. The case and buttons can be 3D-printed from reference designs or community modifications. | Electronics, firmware and features are shared with PRO, according to Input Labs. |
| PRO | Pre-assembled, with an injection-molded enclosure. | Electronics, firmware and features are shared with DIY, according to Input Labs. |
The practical difference is the amount of maker work involved, not a different stated feature set. The Alpakka 2 pages reviewed do not establish a complete bill of materials, required printer or tools, assembly time, exact build cost, or specified print material. The enclosure and buttons are printable, so 3D printer filament is relevant to a DIY build, but Input Labs does not specify a required type. For the variant descriptions, see Input Labs’ overview.

At the device level, the listed outputs include HID mouse, keyboard and gamepad/DirectInput, as well as XInput. Input Labs says no drivers are required. Those are the manufacturer’s listed interfaces; they do not guarantee identical behavior on every computer, operating system or game. The same specifications list a browser or PWA version of the Ctrl configuration app, 12 profile slots, cross-device mappings, long-press and double-press mapping, gyro touch-on/touch-off assignment, steering-wheel and plane-joystick modes, stick deadzone and saturation controls, and glyphstick and daisywheel typing modes. These are current listed features, not a promise that every host or application supports every configuration. See Input Labs’ Alpakka 2 specifications.

How to think about gyro aiming setup
Input Labs’ mouse manual for the earlier Alpakka recommends leaving operating-system pointer speed at its default and turning off pointer acceleration. It provides sensitivity presets for 1080p, 1440p and 4K displays, and suggests calibrating so roughly 45 degrees of horizontal controller rotation spans the screen width or turns an in-game camera by 180 degrees. Those are vendor setup suggestions for the earlier manual, not independent measurements or verified Alpakka 2 settings. Use them as a starting point only if they match the controls and software available on your Alpakka 2 setup. Input Labs’ earlier mouse manual has the guidance.

Input Labs connects Alpakka 2 to the original Alpakka, released in 2022, and describes building on earlier firmware, a configuration app, dedicated electronics, wireless design and community feedback. The original’s DIY design was also covered by Raspberry Pi in 2023, including its use of a Raspberry Pi Pico, open firmware, printable design files and published PCB schematics. That Pico belongs to the original controller, not Alpakka 2: the current Alpakka 2 specifications list an RP2350. See the Raspberry Pi feature on the original Alpakka and Input Labs’ Alpakka 2 overview.
